Dogs are welcome but must be kept on lead, supervised at all times, and brought outdoors for regular toilet breaks. Waste bags will be available to purchase on the day.

    That'll be a yes then!

EGAR has been offered a free stall there so I am delighted and will be seeing you all there :).

AFAIK MADRA Dog Rescue are running the gig - it's in aid of them and a way for them to get their profile up as a dog rescue group in Galway. their website is www.madra.ie if anyone wants any info. (I'm also too lazy to check out the expo site:D)

Thanks selfbuildache - great to know it's for a charity, it might encourage people to make the effort to go.

I'd love to travel down with my boy(s). Anybody know the welcome status of the RB's?

Also wondering about this before we commit to making the 3 hour journey up.

Hopefully they raise loads. it's nice to see an event like this where dog lovers can bring their canine pals along with them!
Should be a great day out while promoting awareness of rescues and raising funds for a good cause, all with the doggies best interests at heart:)

I'm sure there welcome once muzzled. EGAR has a stand so I'm sure she would be able to clarify.

    From the website:

MADRA Dog Expo takes place from 10am to 5pm on Sunday, May 29th, 2011. A detailed timetable of activities will be uploaded soon so please check back. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on lead, supervised at all times, and brought outdoors for regular toilet breaks. Unfortunately due to Irish law all restricted breeds must be muzzled. Waste bags will be available to purchase on the day.

I am bringing an AmBull-, they are not restricted so no muzzle required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,412 ✭✭✭toadfly

So who's coming to this on Sunday? Drop by the EGAR stall and say hi! Whispered are you making the trip down?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,772 ✭✭✭✭Whispered

I don't think so Tillygirl, my boys have never worn a muzzle and I think Harley would be very distressed after a long drive and then a new piece of kit. Neurotic fella that he is

Also think I'm making the trip the following week for his neutering. :)

Quick question on this....why are peopled bothered about breed of dog, just bring your companion like i am regardless of the situation or circumstances.:)

I'm not bothered about breed, but I'm respecting the rules as laid down by the organisers. It's a bit of a drive for me to go "regardless of situation". It's not like I can turn home easily if I'm forced to muzzle my boys. (I'm in Kildare) I appreciate the fact that the organisers likely have very little choice. It sounds like it will be a great day and all, just not very pratical for me to attend all things considered.

I'm going, bringing Rooney along, he came from MADRA originally, he was supposed to be rehomed from here, but I just fell in love with him and he stayed:rolleyes: So listen out for the woowooing, and you'll find me, I'll be on the Tails 'n' Trails stand for most of the day.

I'd love to go to this, but having a dog who is a nervous pee-er means indoor things are pretty much a no no :(

I was looking at this... would love to have a chat about canicross/ canix if possible... all depends whether my wonder hound will stay calm enough for me to even be there :o never mind talk to anyone.

I also see there's microchipping being done. It's been on my to do list so no excuses now.

Come over and have a chat, I'll have a crate there for Rooney, don't know how your dog is with crates, but you could always pop him/her into it for a short while if you needed:D

I've PMd you whispered, MADRA don't make the stupid Irish laws and God knows they have rehomed enough restricted breeds:rolleyes:

you shouldn't let that put you off Acoshla, accidents can only be expected!

My dogs won't be used to this kind of indoor environment and that's exactly why I'm bringing them...it'll be good for them to get used to and it's not too often I have the opportunity to let them be involved at an indoor event like this so I'm going to make the most of it!

    hope you change your mind:)

I have it on good authority that there will be plenty of mops and buckets there on the day! Accidents will happen at events like this and there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

Do you think a halti or similiar will be enough? I had wanted to bring our pup but dont want to muzzle her. Bringing our foster dog though!

Its the law and MADRA have to enforce it, you cant blame them for that.

spoilt brat who thinks shes a great dane !!

    Cant wait :D

Madra has no authority to enforce any laws.
They are simply pointing out the law as it stands and it's up to each person to comply as they see fit.
Madra want as many two legged and four legged friends there as possible :)

But surely admission could be refused to anyone not complying with the law? It might affect the insurance if people didn't comply.

I don't know, just pointing out that you might not be able to get in if you don't comply with the (stupid and wrong) law.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,772 ✭✭✭✭Whispered

I think the majority of people can see the bind that the organisers are in and are not taking offence to the fact that they have to be seen to comply with the law.

Anyway, we might go camping in Galway tomorrow night, weather permitting, which means we'll be in the area, going to pray for the sun to come out though. And buy a new tent. We camped last weekend and the poor boys spent most of the time in their crates sheltering in the porch of the tent. We felt bad for them and allowed them both into the bedroom part to sleep with us and during the night they decided it would be great fun to break out. We all ended up huddled in the dry part after they destroyed 2 of the zips!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,353 ✭✭✭Galway K9

Whispered I hope not being too forward but i doubt weather will be good. Your family and dogs are welcome at mine with fella here as its just him and I in 3 bed house...

    The offers there anyways...

Thats very kind. I just checked the weather forecast and it's to be dull with temps of approx 12 degrees. Not too bad at all. Light showers expected. If we decide to go down I think we'll risk camping if we find a suitable park- thank you though.

Well who went, what did ye think?

We went in, great crowd don't think that much was expected. Was no big issue with dog's being muzzled either.

Hopefully they'll make it a yearly event in a bigger venue next year.

I was there for a while. What a brilliant day and fantastic turnout. So many dogs in one place and I didn't see one incident. Even my own was very well behaved. I got my dog microchipped which was my main aim and picked up some bits and bobs. All good. Fair play to madra.... some organisational feat!

I was there all day, had a lovely day, have a sore throat from talking to so many people, was lovely to meet Tillygirl and littlebug from here, and someone else, who says he is a lurker on here:D

& jammed, my poor lil dog had to be up in my arms a lot but she loved it! Got her a few toys too and she had her nose stuck in the bag to get her treats when we got home. I am sure it will be on every year - bigger and better (if it can get better) next year! Well done all involved!

I was there, thought it was amazing, wonderful to see so many people with their dogs and supporting dog welfare. I was volunteering at the Madra stand and was looking after the puppies for a couple of hours - tough gig!!!

We had a great day; it was a credit to all involved, and it was so lovely to see so many dogs and dog lovers in the one place. Our lady was so tired after the days excitement that I had to drag her out to do her business before her bedtime:p. She won one of the categories in the dog show too, so I was very proud:D. We picked up two lovely dog beds, lots of dog food samples, and even something for the cats, and we even met our vet:D

Highlight of the day was definitely the bulldog called 'Alfie', what a fantastic dog, gorgeous:D, if his owner is on here he is a credit to you, we are still talking about how fab he was today!!!

It was great, even though I was dogless:( Hope to remedy that by next year... and arrive earlier to get parking:mad:
I think a bigger venue would be better next year, it was pretty cramped.
Well done to the Madra for all they do, it's badly needed.
