Pre-Workout Drinks

Ok so i just wanted to get people's experience's on the effects of what type of pre-workout drinks they use, what side effects were noticed as a result of too many stims in the drink used, and what product works best for you.

I started off with NO Explode from BSN. Very good product and kicked in fast, but last hours on end. Found myself up til 2am wide wake and not being able to sleep despite my session at the gym starting from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. So a guy i know in the gym recommended Hemo Rage Back Ultra Concentrate. Very potent, very strong and lasts for about 90mins i would think. I did find I got dizzy and spots of faintness from using it. After reviewing the drink i found that there are too many stims and too many unknown ingredients. Trouble is im still finding it tough during the day because my energy levels are low. Perhaps i need to lay off the pre-workout drinks for a while to flush everything out of my system or go for a more common favoured drink such as jack3d which doesnt seem to have any common problem.

Hard to put in a good workout though without using some sort of stim.

Absolute rubbish IMHO. How about trying a really clean, well balanced diet for a change. I personally find that it's all I need.

What is you actual diet like? Post up a typical days food and liquid intake

    A similar query from me.

I'm thinking of a Glutamine/Creatine/Dextrose/Protein mixture as a post workout shake.

I'm not sure what to go for pre-workout when I start trying to bulk. In a way, I want to avoid supplements but I'm also thinking that a mixture of Protein and these http://www.bulkpowders.co.uk/product.php/267/0/ultra_fine_scottish_oats/40fe1b7866a43c4958391c93f17dcd5c could be considered pretty close to food as opposed to supplements. Have you any thoughts on this?

Or I could just stick to eggs and standard oats from Sainsburys (I workout in the morning) and leave all supplementation to after the workout.

Clean diets are overrated. Try a triple espresso & some wine gums.
Teeth grinding and twitching are the only noticeable side effects.

I agree, pre workout supps are unnecessary for the most part. the likes of jack3d and NO xplod seem the most popular but has anybody ever read the exact ingredients contained within? and if so, do you actually know what they are/what they do? didnt think so.....

take jack3d, its got a dose of "1, 3 Dimethylamylamine", which is basically an ingredient in party pills. this is the same stuff Kolo Touré was banned for as far as I know (i may be wrong) as well as two South African rugby players (al be it, in error i think) combine that with 'beta alanine' which can give you almost stroke like symptoms and a high dosage of caffeine...

having actually sampled jack once before (i cannot speak for any other product) I found it fairly ineffectual. many of my gym going friends have spoken about the 'animal like', almost frenzied effect that they get from taking it but I did not experience it but yes, i was focused and felt that I could last somewhat longer. However, who needs to spend longer than an hour in the gym anyway? It did not increase the amount of weight I could lift nor the amount of reps I could do.

point is, if you have a busy lifestyle and train late in the evenings/early in the morning and struggle for energy, on occasion it is a good idea to ingest some sort of ergogenic aid before going to the gym. (but becoming reliant on caffeine to train is not the best idea IMHO). from my own experience, a small cup of coffee/espresso (again, on those tired days) is more than sufficient for providing extra focus. Its cheaper, safer and wont keep you up all night or have you getting all edgy and narky with the missus.

you should address this 1st-Maybe you dont sleep or eat enough or maybe you need to suck it up and go balls out-Whatever it is sort that 1st.
ill take caffine tabs or powder if Im really really shattered after work but try to keep it to a bare minimum as got so twitchy it felt like it was actually impeding me.
Id also wonder about the effect NO(good) Explode had on you, as its utter utter dung, I took double the serving and got nada, pepsi max would do more.
Actually come to think of it-drink 2L of milk pre and midworkout, worked for me!

Are you not just jumping on the media band wagon.
It's a stimulent, originally for nasal inhalers. Banned by WADA just like many other legal stimulents found in over the counter medicines.
Found in party pills in higher doses, which are legal btw, becasue it is a stimulent.

Kolo Toure, as well as the baned Rugby players tested positive for it, most likely from jacked or similar. This is simply because it is on the list and doesn't prove that it is in any way harmful.

The original sudafed had to be changed as it was also going to cause failed drug tests

yeah, thats what I am saying, I am possibly jumping on the media band wagon with that one. but to be fair what I am saying is that it a relatively untested chemical and when combined with the other ingredients in jack who knows what the long term effects of taking it regularly are? I dont know enough about it to say it is dangerous but it did little for me and why take something banned by WADA if it has little effect?

just saying, the focus I get from coffee combined with a decent diet should be more than adequate to enable you to train at your optimum. locker room chat would suggest that jack3d et al are magic powders which automatically make you stronger. thats just not the case.

I ve been using noxpump for the past 4 weeks and before that i had been using animal pump

Animal pump did nothing......i couldnt tell you the differance between taking it and not taking it because there didnt seem to be one.

noxpump produces a good workout if im doing low weight hi rep stuff, it seems to give a little bit more intensity and concentration than not taking it...it had the same effect on bigger lifts but to a lesser extent, but still noticable.

I found with noxpump that 1 sachet a week was working...if i took 2 for 2 differant workouts i'd get no effect so i just keep it to 1 a week and it does the trick

I take horse power before working out. Don't know how much it helps but I feel a bit of a kick from the beta alanine.

Otherwise I take xtend, natural bcaa's and creatine since I am on a cutting diet.

couple of litres of water and i can feel it flowing in me veins stimulating me to lift heavy.

just willpower, and a munch really an hour before the gym and im grand.

sometimes i dont even want to go to the gym( tiredness etc) but i couldnt be arsed with stimulants, been in gym and lads talking about what ones theyre using 'jaysus boy i get some bang off that' ,tis like theyre on a dancefloor at a mauro piccotto session back in 1999 after taking a few yokes the way some of em would be going on.
