So tonight is a summer party, bikini tops and the likes. My female friends wont eat any solid foods today in case their stomachs bloat. Are they really as wierd as they seem to me or is this normal? Like one lump of bread, how could that hurt?

no one cares if your friends are weird, just tell us where the party is on.

    Hmm.................what to comment...................what................to.............comment.

But depends on the person really. White bread would bloat, but just sounds like your friends are too self-conscious. Which is a dangerous thing seeing that that's all the media does is advertise x million ways to lose a pound by people you shouldn't really care about!

Your friends are normal. When it comes to boozing; eatin's cheatin'

Your friends are morons, but unfortunately, that's increasingly normal among today's diet persnicketty women. You may as well remind them that they never crammed anything into their heads five minutes before the leaving and they're not going to cram anything out of their bellies in 8 hours.

Is the party in Drogheda and outdoors? Because the forcast is for 12 degrees after dark, dropping down to single figures.

Maybe a jacket and scarf party would be more appropriate!

Its an indoor party, not in Drogheda, don't worry, we wont freeze. The walk home on the other hand........

Hmm, I dunno about "complete weirdos".

It's a stupid idea but lots girls do it. We had the UCD ball the other day and pretty much none of friends ate before it (myself included).

You get drunk faster and feel/look better. Also alcohol is high calorie, and the hangover makes you wanna eat more the next day. (don't shoot me!)

I don't personally get hammered ever. Not only do I wake up wanting to die, being too drunk is embarassing, pretty dangerous and really not clever.

I was just answering the question. I'm saying that I do this (although I know better) and most of my girl-friends do it. It's not smart and I wouldn't encourage it, I'm just saying.

Are you sure you don't get hammered ever?

I don't really see why this is relevent but obviously I have done and do sometimes. I'm just saying I prefer not to get really drunk like some girls do on a regular basis and avoid it for the most-part.

So is refusing to eat at all before going out for a night where you'll be drinking.

I don't get it really, I'd probably go and get a bag of chips before it. Only reason not to eat is if you really can't afford to buy much drink, and even then it's not a great idea.

As I've actually said already, I know its a bad idea. My friends and I, who do this, aren't doing it because of ignorance. We know its a stupid idea but do it anyway! I personall feel better eating little before going out.

I am pretty skinny and so are (most of) my friends. Therefore, 'bulky' foods like bread or pasta make me feel really full and sometimes you can even see it (maybe I imagine that though).

Lastly, please don't attack me for saying this. It isn't just MY friends. I know a lot of girls in my class/year/college who do this.
Again, I'm not promoting this behaviour, I'm just saying that its common and that girls do it.

    What's your problem?

Think about when you wake up most mornings. Your body looks and feels better and skinnier. When you eat, especially after a big meal, you bloat and feel full.

When you feel full, you feel heavier. Add this to looking bloated and you can see why people don't want to eat before a bikini party.

I know a lot of girls who do this. If I was going to a bikini party/holidays or whatever I would aim to cut down on bread/pasta/stodgy food a few days beforehand because when your slim, same as Rocket19, a little bloating shows a lot! We just plain dont have room for it.
That said, Id always eat something-otherwise your asking for trouble! And my intentions of no sammiches rarely follow through :D

Are you really skinnier in the morning? Doesn't bother me one way or another, but I've never heard that before...

skinnier does not mean better, your one post has led me to believe your rather shallow and perpetuate the stereotypes that make so many young girls starve themselves for the unachievable
