Targeted Weight Loss / Toning

I have been trying to eat healthily for the past while and am doing ok in that respect but am looking for some excercise advice.

Im naturally quite petite but am a little pear shaped so tend to carry weight on my hips and thighs. My waist and stomach are not bad and I am small chested.

I think its quite possible for me to lose weight off my hips and thighs as its definately weight as opposed to bone as in my hip bones themselves are not that wide. Just wondering what excersises are best for this? I am more looking to tone this area up as if I lose weight it will of course come off my top half and I don't need that!

At the moment I mainly do horse riding and a bit of skipping and lunges. Any ideas what I could be doing to target these areas specifically and to trim them down? I have some small weights, a floor mat and that at home I can use

    Thanks

First off - you cannot spot reduce. You cannot select where to lose weight. Your body will do that.

Good news is that it's been shown that having fat on the hips and thighs rather than the tummy is healthier.

Forget the light weights - you can do lots of bodyweight training thats highly effective. Check out the 'home workout' thread and if you want a challenge the 'metcon' thread ;) in the main fitness forum here. If you can get to a gym, get an instructor who seems to know what they are talking about to get you doing a lifting programme. Cardio will make you a skinnier version of you (if at a cal deficit of course) but lifting heavy and doing resistance work re-shapes your body. Do not worry - you won't (can't) Get big as you simply do not have the testosterone to do so. Women have 1/10th the testosterone of men.

Diet is very crucial - what's your current diet like?

Have read of the stickies here and in the main fitness forum
