Walking half-marathon with knee injury - advice please!

Hello, I'm thinking of taking part in the Clontarf half-marathon in July as a walker. Thing is, I tore cartilage in my knee about 12 years ago and sometimes it swells/becomes painful if I walk long distances. I tried 16k yesterday (with a separate 6k in the morning) and it's a bit niggly this morning...my question is, does anyone here have a similar injury and if so, how do you take care of it when you do a lot of exercise? Ice packs/hot packs? Are there supports that you use that you'd recommend? I can't take NSAIDs due to asthma but would want to avoid drugs anyway.

    Thanks :)

sorry OP, this is something you'll need to discuss with a physio or Dr.
