Do you need some kind of supplement to make noticeable gains?

In my case I'm looking to build muscle, I bought one stop protein months back but have yet to use it, my issue is that I don't workout intensively and thus would not benefit from whatever the supplement provides.

Should I just alter my gym workout or talk to one of the gym trainers?

Yes...if the gym trainers are decent they'll put together a programme for you. I'd expect them to help you with dietary advice too. To answer your question, no supplements aren't necessary to make gains. Your protein powder is just a more convenient food. Have a read of the stickies on the main health page and then come back with any questions.

I think that could be your biggest hinderance

A protein supp is just protein. nothing else.
Taking it or not taking it would be the same as eating or not eating an extra 50g chicken a day. That's bout 2 bites btw
