IRA Statement - Why wasn't he arrested on the spot?

    As the title suggests.

Why wasn't the IRA man reading out the statement not just arrrested on the spot for being a member of an illegal organisation?

If I made threats against a member of the public, i'd be arrested, what is the difference?

Somehow I dont think they made their statement in a police station or within easy reach of the relevant law enforcement officers

I realise that. However the 7 men who were there in full military gear are part of an organisation who a few weeks ago murdered a PSNI officer, threaten to kill more and threaten to "disrupt" the queens visit.

TV stations shouldn't have even given them the light of day for the statement.

I sincerely doubt the vast majority of the public is going to be deeply upset at members of the RIRA being arrested for strutting about publicly proclaiming their membership.

Not the most naturally gifter orator.

Surely if there is a police helicopter hovering overhead it would have at least tracked one of them back to their home/safehouse after the event ended

What on earth sort of statement is that? I mean really. Only on this island would we accept this. The guy was talking about shooting more people basically and causing havoc and basically made a threat to the Queen in a weird way.

So why wasn't there a squad of armed police officers coming and swooping the lot of them in masks and take them in and hold onto them. It makes perfect sense.

I'd say now that Martin and Gerry are onside that identifying these people would be a piece of cake. Vast majority of republicans are now signed up for peace.

I'd tend to agree with you being honest. Which i'm suprised at because generally i dont agree with a lot of your posts.

It would be kind of like 7 masked muslim fundamentalists standing in a graveyard in Washington making a statement about making more suicide bombings and walking out of the same graveyard unharmed.

in fairness the Brits allow the muslims to preach the same shíte on their streets so we're not unique in that regards.

It would play into their hands.why can't people realise this?they would claim harassment etc.

Yet, difference is, this group has just killed a police officer lately and here they are, infront of everyone saying they will do it again and to the Queen. How can the police not go in and pick this lot up? They surely knew this was happening? Its a disgrace and frankly, this group will strike again with this sort of attitude.

Harassment? What on earth. They are a group with bombs and guns and planning to kill more police officers and basically anyone who doesn't stand by them. What is possibly harassment about that?

well you tell us?afterall you claimed a few weeks back the psni is a top class police force.

It's good for people to see how retarded these people are. As much as I'd love to see a sniper bullet to his head, the UK (and it is the uk as far as laws are concerned) still has freedom of speech.

Thats a good point, they would be in a cage in guantanamo before nightfall.

Judging from the trouble he has reading the statement I think he might not be qualified to be tried as an adult anyway.

i can assure you keith every one of them has been identified by the security service,it may even be part of a long term plan to let people see their true colours.best the enemy you know

They have no support whatsoever but the threat is quite alarming.

Hopefully the security services are on top of this.

They have no support whatsoever, your right.

But that just means that they will turn on people who they once thought they were their own.

I see them mention the GAA and Catholic church in that it wont prevent them targeting anyone.

Yep it's a bit mad alright. I only hope getz' angle is correct.

They don't need much. Blind eyes turned is often enough. It doesn't need many of these people either. Look at the nuttier Muslim element. 99.9999% of Muslims are not like this, but a good proportion have a sneaking admiration and more will turn a blind eye. The idea that one man or a small group can change things for the better is a common one, but we forget the other side of that coin at our peril.
But that just means that they will turn on people who they once thought they were their own.

And more blind eyes through fear. It's long since gone being about the nationalist community, ditto for the loyalist community. Now it's about power and mafia type revenue in working class communities. Watch it get worse as the economic situation does. On both sides, you'll have rabble rousers blaming the "other" for people being on the dole/in hardship. A certain Austrian corporal used this to great effect. Same old same old and the working classes will be the ones bearing the brunt as usual. For me it's no coincidence that the trajectory of the troubles followed pretty closely the economics of the region. Well off people trading with each other don't want to kill each other.

I was saying this last night with my brother that if it was me, i would go and really improve the nationalist areas, housing and do the places up to make them look brilliant and improve their life style etc. Get people away from having the potential of joining the RIRA.

keith but would you set up a business in a nationalist area that may be burned to the ground or bombed[remember most of the bombs are planted in those areas] during the next riot by dissidents?, you could not even afford the insurance ,

Ditto with loyalist areas. Raise everyone up and it does reduce tensions. Hell this all kicked off because of the very real economic and political poverty in the nationalist areas. The religious aspect is almost entirely historical. Though that said if I was a loyalist protestant up north in the 50/60/70's (even 80's)no way in hell would I want to join the south. It was about the most catholic state in europe and a rotten one to boot. No divorce contraception etc.

I happened to be on the city walls while that was going on. There were a couple of PSNI watching and of course the chopper. I wasn't aware of what was happening but looking back I'm pretty sure any attempt to arrest those guys would have been high risk, probably futile and counterproductive. I reckon they would have scarpered long before the law got near, leaving the police with a messy and confrontational crowd control situation.

I think the PSNI are clever enough to pick their battles.
