    what spec?...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 340 ✭✭BULLER

How much is that laptop?! You'll get 30mins battery life, low to medium settings and maybe heat/burnout issues if playing all day. They're really not meant for gaming...
I recommend buying a €500 pc that can play it on high settings and a cheap laptop for traveling.

I have a simlar spec laptop (i5 instead of an i3) and I can run all the games I have on medium-high settings (including BC2). I would imagine that Battlefield 3 would run pretty well on it at medium and still look great.

The 5650 is a great little card for the price. What's the price of the laptop out of curiosity.

the price is 600euro from dell

Woah, don't buy from US, you'll get eaten by customs

aand yeah best not to touch ebay for gaming laptop

thanks for the heads up so what shops should i look to.

If it's a viable option, I second the recommendation to build a PC. You get much better value for money compared to a laptop when it comes to gaming.

i was thinking of getting a gaming pc but i was going to sell my current laptop to buy the new one and i am not going to sell it to buy a pc :confused::confused:

This makes no sense. You were going to get a PC, but going to sell your laptop to get a new one, but you will not do so to buy the PC?

Anyhoo's, bare in mind that once you buy the laptop, you won't be able to upgrade it easily, so don't buy it until after Battlefield3 comes out, and after someone does a review of it on a laptop, as the video cards in laptops are sometimes the weak version of the video card you'd see in a PC.

Buying a dual core now is false economy and you'll only pay more for the quad core you'll need later on. There's still 6 months till release, you have time to save more.

    what about 3 core

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,475 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

    what about 3 core

3 core is AMD...cheap and affordable and can be overclockable.
By DICE saying that BF3 will be quad-core compatible it simply means that if you have from 2-4 cores then BF3 will use them.
It doesn't mean that it will use all 4 cores on a quad core but only 1-2 on the AMD 3 core.

Right now Intel have the performance crown but you do pay for it :)
although they are a lot cheaper thanks to AMD :)

Here one with the same specs with a quad core processor

    SPECS:
Cooler Master Elite 310 - Mid tower
    ASUS M4A78LT-M LE - Motherboard - micro
    850 watt power supply
AMD Black Edition - Processor - 1 x AMD Phenom II [quad core]
    750gb hard drive
    4gb ram
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

    TOTAL : 596.35EURO !!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D!!!!!!!!!!

You should compare against the builds in the budget gaming PC thread here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055278463&page=68

Some of the builds there are almost the same yet 40% cheaper.

    Thanks

that gaming pc thread is good but all there items listed are either without p&p or vat which from experience can add 100euro maybe even 200euro in some cases so thanks for the suggestion but komplett.ie from free shipping and vat is alreadly included on the items price so i am happy with the specs i have :D:D:D

    TREVOR451 SPECS:
    AMD phenom x6 1090T @ 3.2GHz
    Radeon 6850
    4GB ram

yes they run bf3 on medium but i dont think at that res [1920X1080p]

I mean look at the specs i am looking to buy:D:D

AMD Black Edition - Processor - 1 x AMD Phenom II [quad core]
    750gb hard drive
    4gb ram
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

by look at what i am looking to buy is really only the graphics card i mean this card can run crysis
on maxed out setting and i am 100 percent sure it will run bf3 maxed out

crysis is a very demending game trust me

is that in all games or just some

No less than a decent quad core for BF3 imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭alex1997123

just found a new and better gaming pc

    SPECS:
    Intel Core i3-2100, 2x 3.10GHz[sandybridge]
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB
    4gb ram
    1tb hard drive[1000gb]
    windows 7 32bit

That's still a dual core though, it is worth paying the extra for a quad core.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭alex1997123

does it really matter dual or core

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 340 ✭✭BULLER

    I found a better one...

    SPECS:
    Intel Core i7-3800, 8x 3.10GHz [sandyriver]
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 785 4GB
    4gb ddr5 ram
    1pb hard drive
    windows 8 256bit

does it really matter dual or core
If BF3 is mulithreaded (I.e. can fully utilise all four cores) then you'd be mad to buy a CPU with only two cores instead of four.

It's not "Double the power" as such but it's a huge leap from dual core anyway.

here once again new specs i found this time on aria.co.uk

At that price range I'd be more inclined to go with AMD phenomII X4. Will deliver nearly the same performance but with 4 cores.

Still that looks very nippy for the price!

    Just read this:

However, the limitations of the cut-down GPU of the GTX 550 Ti 1GB are still there to see, especially if you have a 1,920 x 1,080 screen and want to play your games at their best. In Bad Company 2 the GeForce GTX 460 1GB offers 20-30 per cent more performance, from a card that’s roughly 30 per cent more expensive (based on the estimated price of £100 for the GTX 550 Ti 1GB

BF3 low settings if you're lucky.

    Here's what I'd buy instead:

    Phenom II x4 840 - €85
    4GB DDR 3 - €80
    880/890 based mobo - €80
    1Tb Samsung F3 - €50
    DVD rw drive - €20
    PSU - €80
    HD5850 - €109
    Case - €50
    Win 7 - €100

Total: €654 and would blow that other PC out of the water. Any site would have those parts at those prices (though the HD5850 extreme seem to be hard to find, but pixmania defo have them).

    Total

Why do you people turn down a PC build on the ASSUMPTION of system requirements? Makes no sense imo. I say wait until the specs are released, THEN build/upgrade a PC if required.

That system would barely run BC2 on low / medium (due to the gfx card - the 550ti is an awful card for the price).

Its fairly safe to assume it will struggle with BF3, considering its an updated, fully DX11 engine, which has been shown to run on GTX580's so far in the videos.

Its called an 'educated guess'. Though it's obvious you'll want at least a mid range card for it.

Plus, the build I quickly threw together off the top of my head is not only cheaper, but more powerful.

Why does your sig area take up so much space on the screen?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,150 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Well I'm just saying in general. I don't see the point in helping people build PCs solely for BF3 when the sys req. haven't even been released yet. It's running on a completely new engine, topped with the fact that BF3 won't be a port of a console game, so you could also assume it'll be more optimized for PC hardware.

Not precise requirements, but Dice have said that if it can run BC2 happily, it'll run BF3 happily, so we do have a good guideline if that's a reliable statement from them.

Lemme see, dubs just gave a better specced machine for the same price, I'd call that being helpful.
I'm hoping to upgrade soon, so this thread is a great help, given the cashflow the wife allows I'll be settling for scraps.

What's with all the AMD love? Aren't the new intel I 5 K quads way better? And reasonably priced? or am I missing something?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,150 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Well they are, I have an i7 myself, but for the price, budget builders should really have a look at the AMD range. Intel's i series CPUs would be more mid-high budget (quad i5's and i7's that is)

I assumed that was gonna be the Phenom II x4 840 (pretty much an Athlon II x4), but its a fully fledged x4 955 BE.

    Incredible price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,874 ✭✭✭shootermacg

I wouldn't begrudge an extra few quid for the i5K 4.6ghz OC, and you have a cpu that outlasts your graphics card and maybe the one after that ^ ^.
Spending a bit more cash on the core will usually save cash in the long run.
What are the I5's now 130 yoyos?

Interesting, I haven't seen a review of the HD 6770 yet. It actually appears to be faster than the HD 5870 (according to leaked specs) - which means it would be faster than the HD 6870...

Very odd indeed. HD 68xx series going EOL?

Scratch that. Leaked specs were wrong. Its merely a re-branded HD 5770.

Spend €20 more and get the HD 6850. You won't regret it.
