I really don't understand the level of hatred for them, no one has to give them money and I've never seen or heard of them being threatening. A little over-zealous at times, and maybe taking advantage of people's guilt to an extent, but the outpouring of hatred seems a bit much to me.

It's quite easy to ignore them, and if people are so assured in their assumptions that they're conning the public, they should feel no guilt or shame in just walking by.

I have no pity for these beggars though, ever since the time I witnessed one begging on the street with a baby around a year old in her lap. As I was coming up towards her, a year old Volvo pulled up, her replacement jumped out, took the baby from her and sat down with the baby while the other one lit up a cigarette, hopped in the car and off they went.

They park their cars outside their houses, like everyone else.
A good few roma families rent gafs near me, just round the corner from fagans in drumcondra to be exact.
