Should be two great games today. I would have to fancy Donegal who have been impressive in the League, but Laois did turn them over in the last game. I think Cork will take Dublin, will be interesting to see Dublin play without Alan Brogan but Bernard can be pretty effective too!

Anybody know of a stream available outside of Ireland, as TG4 player won't work?

Good idea to make a day of it... Heard Aslan in the background doing soundcheck while Con Murphy was reporting from there, and they sounded AMAZING..

I think there are too many injuries for Cork to beat Dubs today. Walsh, O Neill, Kerrigan out and Cadogen suspended. It'll be tight tho. Some media reading into the league game between them a bit too much. There's no way they'll but 3 goals past Cork this time. I hope...

Cracker of a penalty alright. He's a top class forward. It wasn't a penalty in the first place imo tho.

defences very lax, not much championship intensity. Can see that ff line working for dublin later on this year.

Did you see the bust up at HT ?

Not sure who exactly was involved but some Cork lad looked like he was trying to upset Diarmuid Connolly with a few nudges. Not sure which Dub got involved but he fairly laid a few into the Cork lad!

What were the Dubs up to at half-time ganging up trying to start a fight?

Fcukin disgraceful and I make no defence of Shields for throwing punches. Both teams just get on with the game and make your point on the pitch. There's kids watching that FFS.

    No it wasn't...

The rule is, side to side, both feet on the ground, shoulder to shoulder. He got it in the ribs, not side to side...

To be fair Shields and Connolly were nudging on the way out, then Philly McMahon arrived in with a shoulder for Shields, who pushed him back. Few digs from either player but nothing too serious....no doubt Shields would take him given his boxing background - I think McMahon picked on the wrong guy!!

Take off your blue tinted glasses FFS!!!!

For a boxer, Shields didnt look to confident dodgy and weaving. Also didnt get a decent punch off!

I have a young child and dont mind scuffles like that. When he is old enough to understand I can simply highlight it as an example of what not to get involved in, but I will explain that it happens sometimes in the heat of the moment.

The problem with violence on tv or sport (or cheating in sport), isnt so much as it happens on front of children, its that parents dont educate their children on how to learn from the wrongdoings of "idols".

Wasnt really a surprise that I called this one. .

Will be very interesting to see if Dubs have learned from previous heartaches, they have shown good character so far in this league. They are going to need to dig deep after letter that lead slip against such a top team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

Dont mind if Dubs lose this once they learn from the pressures of a final and progress in the Champo. Nobody wants to take the shot to try for an equaliser!

Alas, it looks like Dublins composure is dead and gone, its with Oleary in the grave. :(

Good game , hopefully a sign of things to come for the summer.

Congrats to Cork. Showed true champions quality when it mattered.

Hopefully Dubs will learn from this and come back stronger in the Summer.

Seriously? You don't mind losing it? ;)

Threw it away big time, great game as I said but the Dubs bottled it badly.

Same media chaos, getting Gilroy on the mobile on Thurs morning to read out the team at 8.30am on RTE 1 news program, what other team would they do that for?

Bringing on a sub with 20 seconds of injury time left??

Well done Cork, looking very powerful again this year.

    Minutes and seconds needed ASAP

Outstanding second half from Cork. Turning around an eight point lead. No panic, just plugged away and got their points. 21 points too and a lot from play which displaces the media myth that we rely on Daniel Goulding scoring frees.

    Rebels Abu :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,096 ✭✭✭An Citeog

Gilroy has to shoulder a lot of the blame for that. Daly and Kelly should never have been brought on and Cluxton should have been brought up to take the free from <50 metres to the left of goal and then the first one closer in on the right when it was obvious that Mossy's nerve was gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭Dangerous Man

Threw it away again. We just don't seem to have the mental composure to get over the line. They get nervous and just fall to pieces. Depressing.

Well looks like their will be no stopping Cork this year! They really are a massive set-up and looking at their under-age teams, they will be a mighty force for some time to come! Well done though, but bring on the Championship :)

It was a good game. I thought Dublin would see this one out though this time. The got the goals at the right time and didn't do too much wrong for 55 minutes.

In the last 15 mins they lost their way alright (they should order in the bottles of lucozade sport to sort that out), but they had those scorable frees that no inter county free taker should miss.

Dublin play good football and even though they lost, they have had a good league campaign. They should be stronger in the championship for it.

Cork are looking the real deal as well, I thought their interplay, passing the ball was very good, very patient too. They will meet again.

I must say I really enjoyed that match ( not just because we won). Dublin were doing very well and went 8 points up at one stage I think. Cork will not be happy letting in 2 goals and not scoring any themselves. However when they raised their game Dublin were blown away. For the life of me I cannot understand how they did not score in the last 15-20 mins. The pressure was on and it got to them. Cork upped their work rate and played some lovely football and scored some good points both from frees and from play.
A win would have been a great way for the dubs to finish the league, as they would have deserved it but it was not to be.
Fro Cork the retention of the league is a good indicator of the hunger that is within the squad. Lack of goals is a bit of a problem but 21pts is a great score to put up. The strength in depth in the squad was there for all to see. They are certainly the team to beat again this year and with the age profile of the squad, look to be the team to beat for a few years to come - Sam should be making a few return visits over the next 5 or 6 years hopefully.

Just back from Croke Pk. Cracking game for a league final.

Dublin totally reliant on McManaman and Brogan. McManaman tired and Brogan got injured - after that their forwards offered nothing. The 3 wides they had late on were inexcusable. If Cluxton came up for that last free, we'd have had extra time.

Cork, missing 4 or 5 of their top names and losing 2 more in the first half, showed real determination and never say die. O' Sullivan from Ballinascarthy played brilliantly when he came on.

This defeat will sow real seeds of doubt in Dublin's minds with regard to finishing out tight games against top teams. They won't face anybody worth talking about until August now and that's got to be a real worry for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,460 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

From Cork point of view I am very pleased considering the amount of players we were missing today. Cork would not have won this game had it been 12 months ago, but the monkey is off the back now and it's showing on the pitch that they can plug out victory from unlikely positions.

But not going to get too carried away either. It's only the league and bigger things will be expected come championship.

As for Dublin I would not read too much into the defeat. I taught ye played well, yes ye may be still short of whats needed to win AI just yet but then again ye are top 3-4 team without question and the advantage of playing in Croker I still think ye will have big say on who wins the championship. Not many will remember today if ye go on to win Sam.

I think Cork, Kerry and Dublin are the big guns with Mayo(if they can avoid Kerry like ourselfs;)), Tyrone and Kildare being the six teams whch I think the winners will come from myself come September

Terrible from Dublin again. After a storming league campaign we falter again when a real challenge is put infront of us. The lack of creativity was terrible once Bernard went off and Kevin McManamon. Cork were poor infront of the posts in the first half and fought back very well as everybody expected them too.

I didnt understand the introduction of Pat Burke and D Kelly. They are terrible player and it would of been better to leave Connelly. Mossys free taking was alright in the first half but with the system we play he gets too tired to continue to accurately hit them. We need a second free taker for the final twenty minutes. He had 2 frees in the final 10 minutes and all he needed to do was hit one of them.

The only positive I take from this is that it will be easier to get tickets for the dublin games all the way to the semi finals again.

A great game of football I thought. Cork seem to have this calmness about them when their losing and under pressure, when they were down 8 points they still seemed in a relaxed state and looked like a team out in a training field!

As for Dublin today was an opportunity lost for them. They were well in control yet in the last 15 minutes they fell apart and as for Quinn the 2 frees he missed were terrible,he'd be dropped off my local junior team for those misses!

The future is looking good for Cork football and today's victory for them with a few regulars missing bodes well for the coming season ahead. As for Dublin 1 thing about losing this is that it will take the spotlight off them for a while and give them time to reflect and make some necessary changes. If Dublin had won today there would have been huge expectations put on their shoulders from the media.

With the summer approaching and Championship not too far away Cork and Dublin will be there or thereabouts with Kerry also in the reckoning IMO. I also think Tyrone could prove a lot of pundits wrong and might be the value bet for this year's All Ireland.

i didnt see much of the dubs during the league but there was a big article in the indo during the week about how they tightened up so much at the back but all i seen today was lads running 2 yards behind their men the whole time.ya cant give intercounty forwards that type of lee way.having said that i thought cork done great to come back into into it from 7 or 8 down and it was a cracking game for this time of year
