Lack of meal ideas

I checked stickies etc but still can't find info, so I will ask here

I usually only eat twice, rarely 3 times a day. I don't know how I can manage 6 meals a day (like some say?). Even if I must, I honestly don't know what a meal is. And how much I should make etc. Is eating some beans a meal? Or a snack? Like I'm confused, is there even a such thing as a snack when eating 6 meals a day? When I go shopping I just buy the same 2 or 3 things and live off those, and I somehow feel my eating is kinda whack (healthy but wrong portions/make up etc).

Any ideas would be great, I really feel my eating is letting me down with such good exercise work

The number of meals doesn't matter.
3 meals is the same as 6 meals as long as they are twice the size.

Fresh, good quality whole foods. Divided up into what ever number of meals you feel like. Plenty of protein with a protein source at every meal
Just as long as the total is the number of calories you need (will vary depending on your goals, low cal = lose weight, high cal - bulk up). If your 3 meals aren't enough to reach calories, then add some snacks to get enough in

I'll echo what Mellor has said above, work out your maintenance calories (info in the stickies on the main health page) and work from there. It may involve weighing some of your food and then sticking it in something like fitday.com. That will start giving you an idea on portion size etc.

If you can't cook, learn the basics.

    Hi there,
A meal is an instance of eating, specifically one that takes place at a specific time and includes specific, prepared food.
I hope this clarifies your query.

Another thing is, People who gain weight rapidly after eating heavy meals are frequently asked to break down their mill in 3 or 6parts. Eating meal twice a day is also healthy but timing play a big role. Breakfast on time, lunch before 1pm and dinner before 8pm. Avoid taking heavy meals in dinner.

Banana is good in breakfast and helps us digest better.

Grow something for yourself. Tomatoes or strawberries, spuds or apples! You'll have more of an interest in food when you see it growing in front of you.

Drink milk if you're looking to increase your intake. It's not a meal and it can replace most an drink you already take. Available everywhere.

Best healthy cooking website in the world : http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/

I have made loads of things from it, and really love their "complete make over" series, where they take a traditional dish which is high in bad things, and change the ingredients/method etc to make it far more healthy, but still very tasty :)

Depending on what your after, or what part of your training your at you can pick different things...

Excellent website. If you cook your own food you know exactly what's gone into it. My housemates think I'm all la-di-da with my duck noodle soup and my yogurt-spiced chicken with almond & coriander rice but I know they're just jealous coz their bolognese was made in a factory in Holland.

I'm trying to lose weight, and yes I am finally starting to learn to cook for myself lol. When I go shopping I don't know what to buy at all.

I'd run out of ideas quick for stuff to eat, anything wrong with eating the same things every day?

Usually for breakfast I eat Alpen with a piece of fruit and some water. Then I run or lift two hours later (depending on the day), then around 1 I usually make a sandwich and a piece of fruit again with some water for lunch. Dinner is usually potatoes with chicken or steak, and some vegtables. I don't know if this is good or bad food but I think my portions are all over the place. And now I've read bread and cereal are bad for you? Confused.com

Pick out a recipe. The list of ingredients - the stuff you have in the kitchen = your shopping list. Don't be afraid to spend the cash on buying herbs and spices. They last ages and you'll use them again. You should always have things like onions, garlic, tins of tomatoes and stock cubes because you will use them and it'll make your shopping list shorter.

    You'll get sick of it.

A "single" portion should be around the same size as the size of your closed fist..

I was out of control eating for a long time too, and one of the things was portion size. I saw the above mentioned as a reference in a few places and always try and stick to it.

A clsoed fist would be way too big for some foods.
Plus it really depends on your goals and current size
