    Purely personal choice:

    Mike Slott
    My Bloody Valentine
    U2 in their hey-day
    Van Morrison
A toss-up between Rory and Lizzy, I'd give it to Rory cos I've always listened to him more.

  • Rory Gallagher
    Thin Lizzy
    Van Morrison
    Paul Brady
Planxty/Christy Moore/Dubliners/The Frames/Ash (select as you feel necessary)

    U2
Oasis (not born here but 4 out of original 5 were second generation)
    Rory Gallagher/Taste
    Thin Lizzy
    Wolfe Tones

Just for note the five biggest selling Irish music acts are:
    U2
    Enya
    Van Morrison
    The Cranberries
Westlife (not really a music act)

    The Cranberries, another quality band.

Not really classed as irish in fairness, if we used that rule I would've picked The Smiths!

    Aphex Twin

Richard David James was born to Welsh parents Lorna and Derek James in St. Munchin's Limerick Regional Maternity Hospital, Ireland. He grew up in Lanner, Cornwall, England enjoying, along with two older sisters, a "very happy" childhood during which they, according to James, "were pretty much left to do what [they] wanted."[2] He "liked growing up there, being cut off from the city and the rest of the world".[3] James attended Redruth School, located in Redruth, Cornwall.

That top five selling list is not really accurate because its from wikipedia, out of date and lacking citations. The Corrs have sold more records than Westlife but Westlife are the best selling Irish act of the 2000s, mainly because The Corrs were bigger in the 1990s.
    Here's my list;

    1. U2
    2. Jimmy MacCarthy
    3. The Script
    4. Christy Moore
    5. The Corona's

So true, I've never heard a band who I recongise so quickly every time they come on the radio. Every song just sounds the same. Their lyric writing is poor as well, every song is about the exact same thing, a **** break-up. I still enjoy their music but in terms of musical skill, they are way down there.

    Anyway...

    1. Two Door Cinema Club (love them)
    2. Ryan Sheridan
    3. The Coronas
    4. Bell X1
    5. Snow Patrol
