Cahir - what a gem of a town

It's a beautiful town. Was just commenting in the Nenagh thread how disappointed some of our visitors were with Nenagh recently. I drove them down to West Cork and we stopped in Cahir -- their reaction was the polar opposite. It's just wonderful to see such a thriving, picturesque town despite (no offence, Cahir) not having an obvious tourist draw, such as KIllarney or Cashel.

As someone else said, it's one of the prettiest towns in Ireland. And the locals who work in the cafes and shops are super friendly and accommodating. I had the baby with me, and the staff in the cafe we visited (it wasn't the Lazy Bean, I don't know what the name of it was) wouldn't accept any payment for whatever she had. I know it's such a small thing, but this town has such a great vibe.

Well done, Cahir folk. You should be very proud of your town.
    River House opposite the castle?

I'd argue that Cahir castle is much more picturesque than "The Rock"

Have to say, I'm not a fan of the staff there at all and have given up going in there. Food isn't great either for what you pay.

    Lazy Bean is far superior.

Cahir Castle and Swiss Cottage are good draws. Maybe they need to be promoted a bit more.

A few towns could do with promoting themselves a bit more.

Agree entirely. Have gotten a few dirty cups and stuff. Lazy Bean is much nicer.

Hm. If the lazy bean had a few fewer tables it would be improved, and I have had a couple of indifferent snacks in there. Both the major cafes are a bit inclined to rest on their laurels, they have a captive audience and are not inclined to make an effort.

Agree Lazy Bean is a squash and not ideal if you dont want people listening to your conversation! Personally for a coffee and lunch I'd always choose Cahir House. Comfortable, food is decent and staff are nice and parking (even if its an awkward car park)

Totally agree about Cahir House, first choice, good food, pleasant place.

I previously mentioned that an elderly gentleman (!)was seated outsie, and was throwing pieces of a muffin at passers by. Driving through Cahir again today, and he was there doing it again !!

Seriously?? WTAF? Were management aware of this? That's awful, especially if noticed by tourists as that will be their take away memory from the town.

I was not in a position to let them know as I was driving through the town at the time.
The muffins and cakes are really delicious in there. Why would anyone buy them and then throw pieces willy nilly is beyond me.

If I saw it, (now my second time seeing it) I am sure that others did, the weather was beautiful on the day, with many seated outside enjoying the nice climate and coffee and cake.
