What things won't you wear?

I was just wondering if any of the rest of you are like me, if there were certain things you just would not even look at in a shop or try on even if you liked the look of them?

I won't wear red, no matter what it is, even if I adore the item, I have no idea why as red does suit me, I just hate the colour on clothes.

I would never wear a playsuit and it's a pity because they have the cutest little floral ones this season but I just can't even bring myself to try them on, if it were the exact same but it was a mini dress then I would definitely buy it but No just because it's a playsuit I cant go near it!

God I'm weird when it comes to clothes!!:)

We all have our pet hates when it comes to clothes. For me I hate anything with a huge zip which seems to be extremely popular lately. Oddly enough I dislike trousers unless it's jeans I dislike wearing them. As comfortable as uggs are I would never wear them as anything other than slippers, I think they look terrible I'm the exception to the rule as everyone seems to be wearing them despite the good weather we have been having.

    So many things!
My bust is really large in comparision to the rest of my figure.
I can't wear high necks, I look frumpy.
Floaty tops make me look pregnant unless they have some sort of band to define my waist.
Shirts will fit my bust but be huge on my waist or be perfect on my waist but the buttons won't clothes over my bust.
    Strapless dresses!
Anything too low cut; flat chested girls can get away with being more revealing but I get so much attention when I wear a plunging neckline.

Polyester tracksuits. I'll try any kind of clothes except shiny tracksuits.

    Ugh.

Crop tops -my stomach is all big and saggy no one wants that on show
leggings as trousers - used to but then realised they aint exactly flattering
shoes during the day - its pretty much runners or nothing for me
Skirts during the day - I dress like a preteen boy

But I do wear uggs in the winter and tracksuits with runners etc so i suppose its each to their own

    Playsuits / jumpsuits / catsuits / Hareem Trousers / Leather/PVC leggings / crop tops

Anything with leopard/animal print (I very rarely see anything I like with leopard/animal print.

Most floral patterns I wouldn't wear simply because they don't suit me, there's plenty I like, they just don't like me :(

Floaty/smock tops unless they have a band or I can wear a belt to define my waist otherwise I look pregnant (the last time I wore a floaty top without a belt I was asked if I was pregnant :(, I was about 14/15 at the time).

Boyfriend/boxer shorts (yes, the underwear), they are the most uncomfortable underwear ever (in my opinion anyway) thong/g-strings or mini/bikini briefs. I prefer mini/bikini briefs as they are the most comfortable, VPL isn't nice though :( recently got some seamless one's from Penneys (€1 euro for 3 pairs :pac:) haven't tried them yet (I have to wash new underwear before wearing it:o).

See through tops unless I can wear a cami/string top underneath.

Most jeggings I won't wear as I find they are cheap and tacky looking. Shiny material with silver thread going through the denim material with gold/yellow thread down by the seams at the side of them. Have yet to see a nice pair, that aren't too expensive.

Nothing that has a lot of jewels/bling/embellishments.

This topshop dress/top/vest is an example. Sorry I can find a bigger pic.:(

    215x0-7-75-1-a0.jpg

    Trousers like these

    16N23YRED_normal.jpg

    and these

    16S07YBLK_normal.jpg

I'm fussy when it comes to clothes :(

I don't care how many times they bring it back, i don't care if Alexa Chung wears one, i will not let a denim jacket touch off me. Vile and chavvy.

Also belts bet around the area under a girls bust, really wide ones, detest it. If i see a belt on a dress in a shop it puts me off straight away as a result of this 'look'.

Lipsy , anything by , also makes my no-go list.

Ah the joys of fashion :pac:

Leggings. Nope. Never have, never will. Just not me!! Also includes jeggings. However, I do have an amazing pair of treggings from Topshop :p Proper trouser material, but as tight as leggings. They flatter my thighs much more!

Very rarely will I wear a floral print. I like block colours and more striking prints.

Embellishments, sequins, anything like that. Plain is good :D

String top or even tank top by itself. I just don't feel comfortable them.

Denim jacket. Haven't worn one since I was a kid. No idea why, I actually think they're really lovely on other people! Maybe I need to give one a try...

PB, I gotta agree with you on the boy shorts, I find them really uncomfortable. French knickers FTW!!

    White trainers/ runners.
Rubber soled shoes. I'm also phasing out any square toed shoes I have.
    Polyester/crap quality shirts and ties.
All t-shirts except for exercise and vegging on the couch.
    Hoodies for the same reason.

Anything too low cut; flat chested girls can get away with being more revealing but I get so much attention when I wear a plunging neckline.

That annoys me so much too! I've friends with very small chests and when they go out they can even have the top of their bras showing and it doesn't look bad, whereas I'm not even noticeably big (34D) but anytime I have a low neckline on I look like I'm flashing people. Not fair.

Anyway, agree with a lot of the above, especially uggs and denim jackets. (But I doubt I'd ever see any I secretly liked). And my number 1 is anything that requires me to not wear a bra. I always see nice dresses with low backs on them that are gorgeous, but I'm not prepared to not wear a bra and I'm not prepared to do the "who cares I'll let my back strap show" thing. Each to their own but personally I really don't like that. It's like wearing a strapless dress with a strapped bra.

And peep toe shoes. I've horrible toes and this has ruined many the shoe prospect for me

    1. Animal print.
    2. Fur/faux fur.
    3. One sleeved tops/dresses.
    4. Anything with fringing.
    5. Harem pants.
    6. Trilby hats.
    7. Shoes/sandals with ankle straps or ties.
    8. Body con dresses.
    9. Anything from Jane Norman.
    10. Dresses that are meant to look like a skirt and a top (rarely do they look right).
    11. Anything with fringing.
    12. Bags that are worn like rucksacks (usually small leather).
to name but a few things.....

    * Pink clothes
    * Leggings/Jeggings
    * Tracksuit
    * Anything with a fringe
    * Bodycon dresses (overdone at this stage)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭Malari

I'm taking this to be stuff that you regularly see people wear about the place but just wouldn't touch! As opposed to stuff you'd be hard-pressed to find ANYONE on this forum wearing, like ankle length smock dresses or something :D

    *Tracky legs outside the house
    *Uggs
    *Playsuits
    *Lipsy dresses
    *Juicy Couture stuff
    *Trainers, unless I'm y'know training!
*Those long vests that cover your bum
    *Birkenstocks
*Anything with chiffon hanging off it
    *Those mid-length sensible raincoat/anoraks favoured by mothers-who-walk

There's got to be more. I'm sure I'll be out at lunch today going "oh, that's on the list, and that, and that!"

    - Shoes with a heel higher than about 5cm - just can't walk in them and even a 2 inch heel stands a decent chance of aggravating my most recent running injury
    - Any top I can't wear a bra under - I'm a 34DD/E, I need my support. Same goes for anything which requires a strapless bra - there is a certain point beyond which physics just defeats modern lingerie design.
    - Yellow or orange - I am extremely fair and it just looks stupid.
    - This is more because I just can't find a pair that fits me, but skinny jeans. Stupid weird legs. :pac:
    - Leggings as trousers
    - Maxi dresses - they just look crap on me.
    - Glitter or sequins on anything
    - Pink - I am not a girly girl, I cannot stand the colour.
    - Really floaty tops
    - Skirts longer than knee-length

Skirts/dressed. I have yet to find a skirt or a dress that doesn't make me look like a cross-dresser. Which would be fine if i actually was, but I'm not! it's weird, because if you look at my body when I find a nice one, I think "ok, not amazing but not awful..." and then I look at my head on top and i just think WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's very strange.

I despise jeggings/treggings/leggings, any kind of egging. Except on halloween. that's fun. :p

Things that could be described as 'tops'. You know the kind, the things with really big neck openings and sleeves. I just think they make me look weird and about 40. I stick to v-neck tees (but not really low neck ones, they're just as bad...)

basically I won't wear girly stuff, even though I probably look fine in it. I just feel weird, and then because I feel weird, I look at myself in the mirror with a big puss on me and decide it looks stupid.

Those cutesy little girl frilly dresses, especially the ones with bows and/or ribbons.

It creeps me out the amount of these 'pretty' dresses in Women's clothes shops that are near replicas of the ones I wore as a small child!!

I'm a grown woman ffs, why would I want to look like I'm seven years old again?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,057 ✭✭✭MissFlitworth

-black/navy trousers (and to a lesser extent black skirts), especially if they're made of shinyish polyester or whatever it was all my work trousers used to be made of. I don't know why but I hate myself in them, they remind me of working in Tesco when I was younger and make me feel dowdy

    -flares

    - (copying RainbowKirby here!) Anything I can't wear a bra under, unfortunately my bewbs do not look good without support. And I really dislike the no-bra look on people with a big rack, *suppresses memory of Lady who must have been a FF rollerblading with no bra & a very thin tshirt*

    - anything smocky

-hair extensions. Look amazing on other people but couldn't deal with someone elses hair sewed to my head (hair sorta squicks me out unless it's my own) and couldn't deal with not being able to brush the living daylights out of my hair, right down to the root

I also won't wear anything with elasticated cuffs.

Oh good one! There's nothing worse than seeing that double-handed hoik that girls do in strapless dresses and tops. Or worrying all the time that the back of your bra is showing.

Lorraine are you my long lost identically formed twin? :D

Can't abide fringes, studs, huge zips, clingy fabric (big bust makes things ride up), harem pants, anything that goes in on the waist, or has elastic on the waist; makes me look weird, yellow, or mustard colour.. ew.

I would like a pair of boyfriend jeans that don't make me look butch, and a dress that makes me look hot.

    :(

Brogues or Uggs. Shoes with a strap AND a peeptoe, just make your mind about what you are, shoes!!!

Like others, leggings or jeggings, not because I think they look particularly bad, but I can't get past the my hating the idea of them. Not mad on patterned tights either - depending on what the pattern is, but generally doesn't work on me.

Strapless dresses. I just hate doing the 'modesty shuffle' to try and keep my boobs from escaping.

Really short ditsy dresses, because I'm tall so I look like I'm just wearing something I've outgrown ten years ago.

    Shiny/pointy-toed knee-high boots.

Things which have too much orange or yellow in them; Irish skin needs no further explanation.

Pedalpushers, either denim or cotton, not flattering and again the too-tall, look-overgrown problem.

Halternecks; make my boobs look really weird.

Again, uncomfortable underwear. Only wear French-style shapes really.

Oh, and despite the difficulties it presents, I try to avoid padded bras. WHY do they make bras in fairly ample sizes for anything above a B-cup? I'm a fairly modest 34C but I don't want my boobs to look any bigger than that really. Moulded cups are fine, but I don't need an extra boob's worth of padding when I have plenty of boob to be dealing with of my own.

I used to love Jane Norman but they seem to have the same stock for the past 5 years :( all tiny little dresses and knitted tops.. kind of reminds me of that 'Magic' shop that was around for a few years.. their stuff are soooo small fitting..

I hate green, I would never buy anything green :o even for my baby, I bought him a little Ireland jersey for Paddy's Day but that was it..

Those playsuits, can't stand them.. Any Tshirts with slogans emblazoned across them like "100% Angel" or some other bullsh1t  dirt!!!

I don't generally wear tracksuits or runners.. although I did invest in a pair of runners recently cause I joined the gym but I wouldn't go out in them for day-to-day wear..

Short skirts with bare legs and high heals :( I just think it look so tarty.. I see loads of girls going around like that on nights out and I just marvel!! Unless you have legs like a super model.. just don't.

    Boob tubes.

There's lots of things I won't wear because they don't suit me, and other things I won't wear because I'm just too old to pull them off even though I think they can be cute on the right person, like playsuits.

    In the first category
    - Anything strapless - no longer an option, my chest is too big.
    - Patterned tights (coloured tights fit more in the second category)
    - Tops with elasticated waistbands
    - Uggs. It's in the name. Ugly.
    - Leggings as trousers. I'll wear them, but only with items that reach at the very shortest mid thigh, so as a very heavy tights option I guess. Also other egging options are a no
    - Anything blingy, River Island style
    - Cone heels
    - The wrong size bra
    Probably a million other things

I hate wearing trousers other than jeans but occasionally succumb (for work) in the winter, but I don't feel myself all day.

Lipsy , anything by , also makes my no-go list.

Same with me, something cheap looking about their clothes.

    I will never wear:

    Harem Trousers
    Jumpsuits/Playsuits
Animal print (especially leggings or tights) actually any kind of printed leggings or tights.
Shoes with that ridiculously giant platform wedge
    Giuseppe_Zanotti_blue_platform_wedge_cork_pumps_shoes.jpg

    Stonewash denim
Keds or whatever those white canvas shoes that always looks filthy dirty are called!

Oh i could go on forever!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,462 ✭✭✭Aisling(",)

    Espedrilles..the flat ones.
    They really really annoy me

oh and maxi lenght skirts with little crop tops as I have seen on 6 different people today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭Susie_Q

HOTPANTS. Dear jaysus there's a lot of them about (even in winter I saw a lot of them, paired with tights) and they are awful. Saw a girl in Connolly Station last week whose hotpants were so small and tights I could actually see her arse coming out underneath. That was one of those things that cannot be unseen!

I also won't wear playsuits (how awkward must it be going to the toilet?!) or anything pastel; I am very fair and pastels make me look like I'm about to die. I like rich, deep, autumnal colours or vibrant summer shades.

Oh, almost forgot: thigh-high boots. Don't think I need to explain that one :)

Shirts with any sort of writing on them.

T-shirts, Jumpers, shirts, polo shirts with any sort of writing, picture etc on the back. (Same applies to the front in the case of jumpers, shirts and polo shirts, unless it is a very very very small.)

    Black Jeans.
    Stonewashed Jeans.
    Skinny Jeans.
    Bootcut Jeans.
    Socks with sandals.
    Tracksuits unless training.

*Anything in the silk or satin family (unforgiving, even with spanx..)
*Anything with fringe (the only place for fringe is on a forehead..)
*Gilets (unless it's Hallowe'en and I'm dressing up as a yeti..)

    Leggings
    Skinny jeans
    Baggy jeans
    Anything neon
Those white/nude sheer blouses.. I can see your bra, love.
    Jumpsuits (LOVE playsuits though!)
Coloured tights (they just remind me of being five)
    Stretchy materials
Runners/trainers worn outside of exercise (with the sole exception of vans classics)
Tank tops (used to always wear them.. dear god, why)

Probably a million other things that I can't think of atm.

*bikini/bra type tops anywhere other than the beach/under my clothes. no tummy spillage for me ;)
    *cycling shorts

    *anything with a popped collar
*short shorts (not blessed with the thighs for them!)
    *skin coloured underwear....just NO.

Runners (unless I'm in the gym or out for a run.)
    Uggs.
    Fake tan.
Leather (I honestly look weird in leather!)
Cord (the way it feels freaks me out.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,180 ✭✭✭tomissex

Velvet...I can't physically touch the stuff so it's a definite no-go for me. Even thinking about it is giving me the heebee jeebees.

Shift dresses or anything without a shape are something I always avoid in shops as well. No point even trying them on, it'll just look like a sack on me.

Anything with a tulip skirt, does nothing for me except give me a giant bottom.

I'm quite open to trying on stuff but those 3 are definite no ways for me. I also avoid the leggings + short t-shirt combo and the tracksuit outside of house/gym thing.

I don't mind leggings, love them really they are so comfy. But cant STAND and i mean literally cant stand when people wear leggings with a short top?? Does anybody care to inform on why people do it?? :D i mean seriously they aren't jeans, and they look absolutely awful with a short top! really infuriates me looking at them :D they are made to be worn with a long (not extremely long) top over them so ur bum is covered!! :D Sorry for the rant but it is just one of those things in life that really annoys me.

    Stripes
    Red
    Uggs *shudder*
    Leggings as trousers
Jeggings without a long top over them (but rarely wear them anyway)
    Prints like this
Jumpsuits (playsuits I can do though)

I try not to wear things that are too overdone - I try to be a bit unique, so Uggs is deffo one of those things you will never see me in.

I usually won't not wear a scarf - pretty much always in one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,130 ✭✭✭Azureus

I wont wear a jumpsuit, they look like giant babygrows imo. Love a nice playsuit although find its essential to get thr shape right or they can make my ass look a bit TOO ghettofabulous.

Crocs-I dont care how comfy they are, they look like something you would be forced to wear after a bad accident.

    Anything velvet/velour/cord.

Anything obnoxiously branded. Includes juice couture/louis vuitton etc.

Patterned tights especially floral. Not a good look no matter how good your legs are;block colour all the way and even at that I stop at blacks/navy/purples/dark greens. No bright neon legs please!

    Guess bags/purses. Tack.

My upper half is quite skinny (not so much lower..) so a few things are out immediately.

    - Plunging/V neck tops/dresses
    - Halterneck tops/dresses
    - Strapless tops/dresses
    - One shoulder tops/dresses

    I also will not wear:

    - Jumpsuits
    - Hareem trousers/paper bag trousers/wide leg trousers or jeans/most types of trousers
    - Any skirt/dress length that is not mini- makes me look like a frump. Except maxi dresses, which I love.
    - Yellow, orange, cream, ivory, brown, beige, taupe. I also avoid black as much as possible.
    - Crop tops
    - Fringing, cowboy boots, the entire cowboy look
    - Cord velvet and leather
    - Fussy blouses, sheer chiffony stuff. I appreciate them but don't like them on me.
    - Hippy prints, paisley
    - Crocs, birkenstocks, wedges, flip flops or sandals.
    - Denim jackets, denim waistcoats, denim skirts, gilets of any kind- fleece, jacket type
    - Bikinis, revealing one-pieces look horrible on me
    - Huge runners, branded runners or any sporty clothes
    - Shiny ice-skating type clothes, like American Apparel stuff
    - Just about anything from AA
    - Really expensive A&F or Hollister branded hoodies/tops. I may buy their jeans cheaply when I'm in America soon but that's it
    - Rotten preppy clothes like Jack Wills. Do not like Hilfiger or RL either.
    - Too many sequins. HATE them on plain tops especially
    - Half the stock of Topshop...rotten crap
    - Brown brogues, any kind of lace-up shoes like them in any colour
    - Very swirly prints
    - Linen clothes

    Fur or leather.

The no leather thing makes buying pretty shoes/boots/sandals a chore :( but such is the life of a veggie! :p

I think my entire wardrobe has been mentioned here :o feeling a little sheepish but heres my list, well what I can currently think of :

    - maxi dresses, make me want to hurl
    - collars, make everyone look old and prissy
    - jeans with lycra/ spandex etc, so cheap and nasty, cotton all the way
    - bras on show with dresses, shocked by people who do this at events
    - tiny danty jewelry on big girls, looks so stupid, accessorize in proportion!
    - dresses/skirts on fat legs, stop your hurtin my eyes, tights don`t hide them!
    - diamonds and gold, too common and cheap looking.
    - anything boring and uniform!

I feel like I'm the only person in Ireland who loves a good playsuit or jumpsuit :D

Gotta add matching tracksuits to my list. Sports wear is for sports, or house lounging! I wouldn't even go to the shops beside my house in a tracksuit. I find many are unflattering also, they really accentuate your arse :p
