Gardaí in Dún Laoghaire are attending to a 'security alert' on the DART line.
A discovery was made on the rail tracks at the Old Dún Laoghaire Road.
Gardaí have requested the assistance of the Defence Forces and a bomb disposal unit has been dispatched.
Roads in the area have been sealed off.
DART services are only operating between Malahide/Howth and Lansdowne Road and Dún Laoghaire Bray/Greystones until further notice.
Irish Rail says Dublin Bus will honour all valid DART tickets.

I hope it is a highly advanced scout droid sent to earth as the vanguard of an impending intergalactic invasion.

As we speak the guards are getting an awful time off it. It is being uncooperative and belligerent and is razing everything in it's path with Lasers.

Destroy All Republican Terrorists. DART. It is the vehicle they'll use to bring in reinforcements from the mainland.

    eh...no
the old dunleary road is the monkstown/seapoint area....very upmarket little zone, old money etc..its akin to sandycove and the like . Dun laoghaire is a place of two halves, the farther you get from the cost the worse it gets.

    1. it was a joke...
    2. the road runs from roughly the Purty Kitchen back the junction of Harbour Rd, no houses along it, just nasty office and apt blocks. After the Purty it becomes Longford Terrace - the nice bit.

    Ok, so.

A used pizza box and people are calling the bomb squad.

It's a miracle this thing doesn't happen several times a night in Dublin 3.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Master Plan Checkist:

    Items required.
    • Pizza Box
    • loose wires and blinking lights to hang from pizza box
    • A big clock to make a ticking noise
    • Conspicious white powder to leave scattered around the box

    Steps:
    1. Leave Pizza box on dart line in south county Dublin
    2. ......
    3. Profit!

It's the Kingstown liberation front. If you don't restore our rightful place within the British Empire, we will keep blowing up our own infrastructure, that'll teach you.

    Oh.....

Damn - beat me to it. Though my culprits were the WestBrit liberation organisation.

The same reason they robbed banks, executed Gardai, ran smuggling operations and tortured/executed touts "in the south".

Because we haven't rounded them up and put them in front of a firing squad.

What is there to even suggest this was republicans in the first place?

No reason whatsoever, that I can see, why they would try to bomb a dart line. Would be very surprised if this was connected to republicans whatsoever. Rather showing of peoples ignorance that they would jump to that conclusion.

I could understand thinking the above was republicans, but in both cases its probably something innocent.

Assuming it was a device, who else would you think could possibly be responsible given the items in the news in last few weeks?

What other groups on island would you associate with such devices apart from Republicans and Loyalists?

RTE says it was "believed to be a viable device".

Aye, the bomb disposal folk regularly mistake dinky cars or pizza packets for viable explosive devices. Happens all the time.

Are the bomb squad getting extra call out these days? Hmmm, funny time for them to be busy, what with all these cut backs....

It seems the explosives were being stored at the location and were stumbled across.

Gardai say the device was concealed as a D.A.R.T. Suspicion was aroused when it pulled into the platform on time as per schedule.

What kind of moronic idiots would "store" their stuff in an area which is almost certain to cause a massive security alert if discovered? I mean if they stored it in the middle of a field it wouldn't be such a big deal, but storing it on a busy, populated railway line which will almost certainly be closed and make the headlines if the explosives are found?

Whoever it was, I shudder to think of them trying to use explosives, if this is anything to go by regarding their intelligence

What difference does it make if it makes headlines? Surely they're in trouble if it's found either way.

Whether or not this is terrorism, or whatever you call it, I would worry about what this means - I would hate to think that devices like these are being made in preparation for a certain Royal visit - I would certainly hope that's not the case because whether I personally want her to come here or not nobody has the right to inflict terrorism upon any visitor to Eire

if something were to happen eirigi's little "off with her head" stunt will come back to haunt them very much so

It was a pizza box shaped like a pipe bomb.
