do you have a bomb strapped to you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,584 ✭✭✭PCPhoto

unless theres a controlled explosion or some major news story hidden best you can hope for are the Herald and the Star ...maybe the Sun too.

Fingers crossed something dramatic happens - and Steve can do a PaulW .... with his pics !!

Storyful community - no money, but exposure. You could live upload to it.

Hold out for the money and send it to the papers. :D Exposure doesn't always help buy new gear.

why not do both .... but give it to storyful (later today or tomorrow) after its sent to the papers (dont know the storyful website but makes sense to try make money from it instead of posting it up online - where it can be robbed)

Don't worry, Steve! It'll only detonate if the trolly goes less than 5mph! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,584 ✭✭✭PCPhoto

hope you got pics of it falling off the trolley ..... any other photographers there ?

heard it on the radio a min ago ... viable (improvised) device .... taken away for analysis ... sounds like homemade package with little or no explosive capabilities.

I certainly don't know how at the moment! So hello PCPhoto!

no prob ... drop me a PM and I'll send you an email address and my number - that way you can text when you send on pics.

oh and add details into the body of the email ... your name, contact details and whats going on in the pics ... if pics are different add filename and details ..so I'll know what is going on in what pic .... if there are people in pics ..names are important.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,584 ✭✭✭PCPhoto

judging by the byline on the other pics it looks like Sasko was the other man on the roof..... you have competition for getting printed Steve (and his stuff looks sharper...but further back .... your images are tighter - which might work in your favour)

    Developed .... whats thaaaa ???

My main area of expertise is news images - generally shot on digital these days due to the speed at which it required to get them to the papers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭stcstc

holy crap, it was just on rte news, they said the army reckon it was a real bomb, that had been stashed for later use. said it could cause serious harm or infrastructural damage!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭smelltheglove

You gotta praise those bomb disposal guys though, walking in not knowing what it is! A relation of mine does it, scary stuff!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 50,860 CMod ✭✭✭✭magicbastarder

i remember reading an interview with a bomb disposal expert, where the interviewer asked why he didn't strap his helmet on. the answer was that the last thing you wanted was your helmet to be strapped on if a bomb you were standing over went off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭smelltheglove

Why was that? I remember I always thought it was cool when my relation started doing it then I was sent a youtube vid of him disposing a bomb in the middle of a field in the middle east somewhere, he walked towards the thing alone, with tonnes of soilders behind sandbags well away from the danger zone and there he was with this thing, dismantling it, alone! I stopped thinking it was cool and started thinking he is one of our unsung heros with balls of steel...

Sorry for going off topic slightly, when do we get to see some of your pics Steve?

    Why was that?
the force of the explosion would channel under the helmet and try to lift it off your head. best not try to prevent that.

That last shot, of the Iarnròd Eireann jacket... If you sent that off, I'd keep my eyes peeled on that showing up down the line in the papers. I can imagine it beside practically any story about them (or public sector in general) and paycuts (I'm sure there'll be plenty of such stories closer to the budget).

    Nice shots. :)

That's the fun part, checking all the papers, and then making sure that it's your image(s) used.

Hopefully you'll get a bit from it all.

    Fair play. ;)
