Why the fcuk do people say "day day" when saying goodbye to a baby / kid?

I just heard a neighbour saying it in a stupid voice.

    It makes no sense!

My sister said this to my nephew for a while, I never understood why. It's not like they say Day Day on the telly or anything :colfused:

Maybe it is from the older generation, but that doesn't change that it doesn't make sense.

I'll be saying "farewell child, make me proud" in the stylings of Matt Berry.

    Whiskey!

Makes about as much sense as toodles, ta ta and any other baby talk.

If I had a kid I would not be using that sort of crap. I would want them to grow up speaking real words.

You might as well say fo shizzle to your child for all the good stupid talk is doing them.

I think your taking too much notice u must spend your days tormented if such a small thing upsets you.

    Jeez hondasam and Trigger, relax!

Hondasam, sorry its not interesting enough for your Sunday more perusings.

Trigger, I never said it upset me, just think its stupid.

In any case baby talk is ridiculous... its just the voice that keeps them entertained, the fact that people make up words to talk to a kid is silly.

Why not say goodbye in another language for example, an introduction to multiculturalism at an early age would be better than made up words like day day or gan gans.

ADIOS LITTLE ONE! You can still have the "baby talk" voice, just don't sound like so much of a loser.

This is all you have to talk about on a Sunday? I feel rougher than a bow-wow's behind and this is much too taxing.

It makes no sense and people shouldn't sat it. All it does is teach children words that aren't real. Fake words shouldn't be used for children or they don't learn the real word.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭Trigger13222

Like using sat instead of say total disgrace.

Pretty sure they do when they can actually talk properly. Next thing you know they'll be using slang when they get older!

It's silly, yes, but come on. I think you're taking it too seriously.

Ooh, I think you're all barmy on this thread! I don't hear adults saying they're going for a drive in their vroom-vroom, or using the nu-nu to vacuum their floors- despite starting life hearing and using these words.

Jeez, that must have come out sounding angrier than I meant it :p.

I've just known children who have gone on to say words like "day day" and others when they're a little older and gotten made fun of for it once they were in primary school.

Its one of my most used phrases - I say it on the phone to my friends just to irritate them/confuse them :)

No, because they would be embarrassed to do that, so they just bottle up the urges to say such words that they learned when when little. The damage done only comes out years later when they find themselves only able to reach orgasam if they wear an adult diaper as a woman holds them and says something along the lines of the following, as she places her nipple in their mouth:

"What's wong with mom-mas likkle soldier .. does ba ba want some din dins?"
