Carroll or Berbatov

I'm a Liverpool fan so obviously going to be biased but was trying to think about this objectively today. Who would you rather in your team, Andy Carroll or Dimitar Berbatov. I'd have to take Carroll. I think he's going to be a beast for us and despite Berbatovs skill and close control, Carroll is and will be the more effective player. Funny thing is Carroll would be unreal at Man U with Nani and Valencia providing the service.

    Carroll's a smashing lad alright.

    Andy Carrolls 22

    Berbatovs 30

    Andy Carroll

The thing with Carroll is, it's not that people are saying he's not that good, it's just that he's unproven at the moment. I've seen nothing to suggest he will be a failure, tbh.

Why set a thread up for this?

11 goals with Newcastle which isn't bad for a team who have just come up and those two for Liverpool.

If you're talking about potential OP, then you'd have to say Carroll because he's the younger but Berbatov is the more accomplished of the two.

Hard to say. One is a proven prem striker while the other is hoping to be.
But I would go for Carroll because he has by far and away a longer future given his age.

p.s. another stupid thread to be honest.

    Who's the better footballer?

    Berbatov.

Who would I prefer in my team?

Probably Berbatov, when he's good, he's fúcking shít hot, and it's beautiful to watch.

I just mean who would you rather in your team right now.

Berbatov. It's like watching porn and football at the same time when he's on form.

Bit of a poor comparison because of the age difference,if I was offered the choice for a 1 year only contract for next season I'd take berbatov every day of the week.
This is really a thinly veiled disguise of a thread to try and justify the price paid for Carroll.

To have in the team right now I'd take Berbatov, but to have at the club for the future Carroll is the obvious choice, he has all the potential to be an excellent player.

It really isn't. I had just been thinking that looking good is worth nothing without goals. Obviously berbatov gets goals but I think Carroll is likely to get a lot more

I suggest you watch more Berba. He isn't 'just goals'. His ability to hold the ball up is excellent, he's great at linking with players and playing little one-twos around the box to create a chance. He closes defenders down when he's bothered too.

Berbatov - Carrol may turn out to be better, but I question his ability to control his personal life and that his off the field antics could end up proving more than just a minor distraction

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭Essien

Berbatov could still be almost as good in 3 or even 4 years time. He won't stop doing the sublime technical things he does best. Physical attributes like pace and strength are a very small part of his game.

    Cool thread

We will see how good berbatov is against the same defence over the weekend as carroll was on monday.

Berbatov, fine player, however i get the feeling he has had the benefit of some whippets doing all the work around him while playing for spurs and united, united have quality around berbatov and he feeds off that very well.

As an aside, if i was given the choice of a player to have in my team for the next year or two, id have Park over Berbatov every day of the week.

So are you saying that if Berbatov doesn't score against City (twice presumably) then Carrol is the better player. You can't really draw that conclusion can you ?

What? Does he have to score more than 2 to be better than Carroll or something? Is that how it works these days?

Exactly, i think the LOL's are a bit misplaced as Carroll is a bit of an unknown quantity but so far you have to say so far so good.

I suspect many defenders in the premier league would prefer to play against Berbatov.

Well what else can we judge it on?, if carroll was 30 years old then maybe we could have a balanced debate about careers. Should we rewind back to when berbatov was 22 and compare them?.

As far as i can tell, this was a thread on who you would prefer in you team right now, no?. Thats all i was getting at with the reference to city.

Perhaps the amount of goals they have both scored over the season could be a good barometer as they are both strikers.;)

I thought we were trying to judge the better player. I would argue it's not possible to work that out from one game. Especially a game where the opposition were so poor. I imagine City will be a completely different team tomorrow to the one that let Liverpool walk all over them last weekend.

    Berbatov on Monday's, Tuesday's, Wednesday's, Thursday's, Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's.

I like Carroll as a footballer, very good player, but Berbatov's on another planet.

Your own manager doesnt fancy him over the other lads with less goals, why would i or you?

When Berbatov was Carroll's age he was a regular on a team that were CL finalists. Can't remember if he played in the final but I think he played in the semis.

    Berbatov wins.

Throw Carrol in contention and he'd be even further behind Berbatov.

Just because Hernandez and Rooney are so good, doesnt make Carrol better.

What random players to compare, completely different players, like comparing an aston martin (Berba) and a Ford Transit (Carroll), both are very useful depending on the situation.

Im sure every other team played a wolves first choice 11, lets not go down that road about teams rolling over?

I'm not, I'm just saying that it was a poor reference point to judge the relative merits of the 2 players. You need more to go on - like an entire season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Geez, some people can take threads a bit too seriously.

    Carroll by the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,899 ✭✭✭budgemook

Berbatov is the more skilled player, Carroll the more effective. Carroll would walk on united team, just because of how perfect he would be for them

Well its difficult to judge on an entire season because carroll is just back from missing 3 months of it.

Maybe walk onto United's bench because no way is he getting in ahead of Rooney, Chico and Berba.

if he could only get onto the bench, he would most likely be sitting next to Berba!
