Did you order one of these OP? Can't stretch to an iPad and this looks decent...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭quigo

Ordered, really wish I didn't have to wait so long for it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭beardo81

Yeah quite the wait alright, hope they don't change the spec before shipping!! Otherwise pretty good deal and will keep me away froman iPad for a while. ;)

Very tempted by this - more for video play back for the kids in the car (rather than bringing a load of dvd discs with us) and general browsing/checking emails in the evening. Can't find any reviews online though as to quality of video playback/sound. Might take the punt anyway

Really tempted to get one of these for traveling rather than lugging the laptop around with me-it looks pretty decent but-

Q-do ye reckon the hardware will support the OS? im just concerned its gonna be mad laggy when i turn it on!?

plus, abstract question but i know the samsung galaxy has trouble with video calling on skype! wonder if this is the same! the camera is grand at 1.3MP but not much use to me if i cant do video calls!

The specs should be fine. 1Ghz cortex A8 processor and 512MB ram is pretty high end. It would be similar in spec to the galaxy tab.

This is in the reviews for the link given in the op. Might matter to some.
7-inch cheap tablet was too good to be true

Maverick Australian etailer Kogan has come under fire for altering the specifications of the firm's new Agora 7" budget tablet after it went on sale.

Kogan announced the "world's best value tablet" with the Agora 7-inch Android tablet offering surprising specifications for just £90 or $149 depending on the US or Australia Kogan portal.

The Wi-Fi only Android 2.2-powered tablet was listed as a 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 4GB of storage, HDMI port, Bluetooth and a 1024 x 600 capacitive touch screen which is an astonishing buy for that price.

As customers rushed to place orders the web page was updated with the device now listed as a 800 x 480 resolution screen and no Bluetooth. A number of customers immediately got in contact and cancelled their pre-orders.

Kogan lists rebadged Chinese-manufactured products well in advance of their actual shipping date with a curious pricing scheme called Live Price that ticks upwards as the release date approaches. At time of writing the tablet was still listed at £89 in the UK with the Australian price jumping to $155 and down to $147 in a matter of minutes.

Really interested in one of these, was considering a kindle but am put off by it's inability to read comics on. This seems like the perfect alternate as I can install the kindall app on it and read comics in colour.

Yeah the announcement is food for thought I suppose but I put my stock in with user reviews-dont have that luxury in this case unfortunately! the first wave of these sold out in Oz, the tablet was brought up on Ozbargains and its had some chatter, some returns, some warnings already

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/42956

The second page has a little more technical discussion-they talk about the processor too!?

    Decisions, decisions, hmmmmm!

    This is on there too-

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/43106

larger screen (big plus-the screen is one of the major things that seems to be a sticking point on the Galaxy) smaller RAM, larger internal memory! Can get the galaxy tab for the same price (300bucks) over there at the mo too! (I have a bro over there that can send me on stuff i can get delivered to him!)

any other reviews - more detailed ones? seems interesting for the price - even if the battery life is only 3.5 hours.

I just laugh at the people who bought one of these purely based on value for money, and hypes. Just to add to my previous comments, here are some of the issues you are likely to encounter with these chinese tablets:

Buggy ROM (as per Gimme said).
    Battery doesn't charge/hold charge.
Difficulty reloading firmware coz the manufacturer's utility tool you need to use is all in chinese.
    Poor Wifi
    Really poor screen viewing angle.

Its only a comment I know , but its stopped me buying it as i was on the fence til now!

Kindle battery life vs this though is massively different, Also the screen on the kindle would be much better for reading.

2.3 is the latest official release....but I reckon once there are a few released then the ROM developers will start tinkering with them and get a few releases (that what usually happens anyway)

Yeah I was hoping that it was a postal date for Ozzy customers.....I'm sensing that it will be longer before either of us get our hangs on the tablet.

I'm actually looking for a tablet myself and have to say that the Kogan Agora looks like real bargain. I tried to compare the specs that were advertised here :

    http://www.buyincoins.com/categories/Computers-Networking/Laptops-Notebooks/

    http://www.chinavasion.com/android/

but Kogan Agora is a clear winner

    Thanks OP

It is a good deal but the hardware is becoming dated. Most tablets are moving onto dual core and higher res screens but for that price you're right it's a bargain. I got it to use as a general ebook/media player on the go for the bus or train. I would've been too paranoid about bringing an expensive tablet everywhere and getting it broken or stolen but this just ticks all the boxes for me.

Anyone know if I order it now off the kogan.co.uk - will it have the upgrades; such as the 2mp camera?

Do these actually ship from the UK or is there gonna be customs on them too?

    Thanks

    Don't mind the customs:confused:

I actually emailed Kogan about this and here is the reply I received:

    Hi ........

Kogan products sold from http://www.kogan.com.au can be shipped within Australia and products purchased at http://www.kogan.co.uk can be delivered within the UK. At this time we are not able to ship to any other countries.

We do plan to launch in more countries in the future so you may be able to purchase our products sooner than you think!
    Kindest Regards,

    ...........

I think their website (.co.uk) has a specific instruction for Ireland where you get a message saying 'enter UK postcode or 'IE' for Ireland' or some such

the discount link will work. to get the referrral discount you need to set up a NEW buyincoins account and use a refferal name and specify that when creating the account - e.g use my name glassop - you will get 5% when you come to pay - at the checkout stage.

just bought one myself - for under €50 it's a steal.

seems to be decent when you flash a new rom onto it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6P2phQdLOA

it's a resistive screen, not capacitive but from the youtube video seems very good. should be handy for hols / gen travelling where you don't want to bring a laptop / netbook but want general web browsing and email etc and want a screen that's a bit bigger than an android phone....

    This morning.
It is their daily deal for today at $74.99, normally it is $83 which is still a good price.
Daily might mean Hong Kong time..so I presume it is expiring at the moment
