Okay we all know that cars are either female or male in appearance.

    Take the Opel Tigra.
    1071-OPEL-Tigra.jpg

Just about as feminine (or effeminate at the very least) as you can get.

OTOH we have a car like the dodge challenger

    2009-Dodge-Challenger-SRT10-Concept-Front-Angle-1280x960-ucc.jpg

    Which is masculine looking.

What say you? (Bonus points for pics)

    Definitely masculine.

i can see this descending into nonsense...as it's very subjetcive to begin with and people will start getting very worked up. along the lines of "you said i have a gay car" or "girly" car....

Cars like the challenger are robust looking, with chunky designs and squared edges, also "aggressive" looking, a sort of super macho look, but if you look a the flowing curved lines of something like an E type jaguar you could say it was more "feminine" and elegant in design, but a lot of it is due to image and people's own perceptions

People are just posting cars that are driven by male or female drivers mostly or that look cool.

That E39 M5 looks quite feminine to me.

The only way to judge if a car looks feminine or masculine is to have a face on view because it is the face of the car that makes it feminine or masculine.

I think its down to personal preference...
Maybe some men feel they have to justify their sexuality by getting a 'masculine' car;),
now what makes a car masculine or feminine i've really no idea! Its a car. A metal box devoid of sexual emotion.

The Peugeot 206 came up a few times as being feminine, the same 206 that won the WRC!
    Another favorite, "I'd drive a (new)mini cooper S, but wouldn't be seen in a (new)cooper..."

Masculine/feminine is not the issue...blokes will pay out for cars which are described as 'pretty' for instance.

The question is whether the car looks good or not.

TBH, many (if not most) men are afraid to trust their own judgement when it comes to the appearance of a car. They want cars that will look well to the people they're trying to impress.

Dunno why, but any coupe looks to me like a man's car.

A Ford Probe or Hyundai Coupe seem feminine to me.

Also, old TT seems feminine, new TT seems masculine

Hummers seem prety feminine to me.Loads of space in the back for the little darlings. And we all know how good ladies are at parking big Sports Utility Vehicles(or whatever they call em).Theyre excellent at it for those of you who didnt know.

the front certainly has a manly aggressive look to it, the back looks a little too curvy for my tastes though

I like seeing pretty girls in big butch cars. :D

I think this thread is a bit silly. I dont think there are definatively masculine or feminine cars (exculing the micra! :p) for example: Haundai Coupe, incidently won the US rally championship a number of years ago.

    rmr-hyundai-genesis-coupe-09.jpg

Take any "womans car" saxo's 206's clio's and youll find a hardcore boyracer/chav fanbase (something you wouldnt say to their face :pac:)
Similarly take a traditional "mans car" like a range rover. Drive past any school in the country at 4 o clock and youll have your answer. Since Ive mentioned the Chelsea tractor I might as well......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

Race spec cars and daily cars are worlds apart. A Ford Ka is without a shadow of a doubt a girls car but if kitted out right could make an animal rally car as it is small and agile and has its wheels on the courners which means it will handle like a go-kart.

The E39 BMW is the most masculine car I have ever driven. Something about it that's hard to explain. To own one, and drive one. I felt invincible in my old one, and I'd say I would buy another E39 in the future. It would have to be an M-Sport one though.

The Mini and the Hyundai Coupe are probably the most feminine.

Add in the new Beetle and that's the top 3 feminine cars imho. Hyundai Santa Fe is up there too.

I don't really think the MX5 is feminine any more. I must be getting mature.

Masculine: Subaru impreza, legacy and forester. Actually, most cars with at least a 2l engine

Always though an Audi A3 was a womans car.

It's a great car to drive don't get me wrong, but the only way a man would ever get away with driving one was if his birds name was on the log book.

What is it with Minis (new ones), do you have to be a girl, blonde and around 30 years old to drive one? Seriously, it's like the mini salesmen will only let blondes buy them

I agree with you on the girl of around 30 part but not on blonde. Ive seen very few blondes driving em compared to the number of brunettes Ive seen driving them.

It really does it for me if I see a nice looking lass driving a powerful fancy yet understated saloon such as high spec Audi A4 or even late model Vectra SRI (ok, maybe not so very understated) for example. Almost seems like a girl is trying too hard in the more obvious Mini/ Bettle/ 206 CC. Then again I will tend to assume the Audi or the Vectra belongs to their boyfriend or worse still their husband.
