whenever i do press ups I end up getting a blocked nose/sinus problems regardless of what i use to cover the floor under my face

I don't want to have to drop the exercise as its a simple but very effective one.

is there any solution to this other than avoiding the exercise.

i had thought that maybe using rings that are a good bit off the floor might work but not sure how practical it is

If it bothers you during your set then you might have to replace it with something else. If it only bothers you after a couple of sets or straight after your first set then try this:

breathe all of the air out of your lungs
pinch your nose and tilt your head up and down slowly (ceiling to floor, floor to ceiling etc.)
repeat until you really need to breath

a clear nose results! great success!

3 chairs - one each for your hands, one for your feet. Simples.

Is it an allergy problem about what their using to clean the floor with in the gym?

Or because youre holding your breath throughout the exercise. The Valsalva effect will raise youre blood pressure, possilbly dialating the capilliers in you sinuses, causing you problems.

You could have nasal polyps. I have them and horizontal exercises (gracity) cause the polyps to move against the membrane inside the sinus cavity and irritate it, causing the membranes to swell and a blocked nose results.

Go see an ENT consultant and find out if this is your problem. It could be dust allergy either.

If you are doing pushups against a wall or bar they will be too easy to do. My wrist was sore the last few weeks and I could not do pushups on the ground, but could do them on a bannister rail. So to increase resistance I put on a backpack with plates in it, you can wrap them in a towel for comfort and to distribute the load better.

The rings you mention would be a good idea, they are hard to do even when elevated.

If its dust or something just on the floor perhaps you could lay out a clean towel underneath you.
