  • Registered Users Posts: 80 ✭✭indabunka

Have to say that Connacht were the best of the three teams that played Leinster and congratulations to them on winning their first Interprovincial Championship.
Leinster gave them a good run with a convincing 21-3 win over Ulster today.
There is some high quality and enjoyable rugby played in these matches and long may the format continue.
    Now Roll on Cardiff!

Munster and Connacht lead the way after round one but the title is still between four sides heading into Saturday’s action in Kanturk and Loughrea.
Connacht host a Leinster side looking to bounce back from a narrow loss in round one and determined to gain some revenge for last year’s loss to the westerners.
Munster are on a high after their fine win in Edenderry and host an Ulster side reeling from a three point defeat to the men from the west last Saturday.

i presume you mean connacht. the game was in castleisland.
Connacht are a very strong side at junior level at the moment and junior rugby in munster isnt that strong. Cashel are the only munster side to go senior since Nenagh went up in 2005 and the standards in Leinster and Connacht have improved a lot in recent years

    Anyone have the Connacht Squad?

What level do people recon the Junior Inter-provincial squads are at? i.e. would they up to some of the mid-level AIL teams?

They'd struggle against them. There's always a few players in junior rugby who have the talent but don't step up for various reasons, but these squads are only together for a very short period of time and the coaches likely don't want to show too much of their hands too much as they're usually from one of the clubs themselves. Its a bit of an end-of-season celebratory thing, or at least it was.

I know a few who were at the screening sessions/trials but dont know full squad.

Depends on what you regard as mid level AIL?
They'd struggle considering they are pulled together at end of the season and have such a short time playing/training together.
Majority of players are more than capable of playing AIL to a very decent level though. Colm Skehan who is starting TH for Young Munster this season will have played Munster juniors when he was with his home club Thurles for example and many other examples like that

Sound responses lads, personally I definitely think that they would put it up to most Division 2C teams as there is some quality junior players around who dont play with AIL teams, for various reasons, but above that I dont know!
I suppose since they usually have big squad and are put together at the end of the Season it would count against them!

Theyd be more talented as a whole than most 2C sides and yes there is some very high quality players playing with junior clubs who dont play AIL as they want to stay with their home club/work commitments...
They wouldnt beat most AIL sides due to lack familiarity with each other against a club team..

Connacht mention theyd been looking at 37 players from 10 clubs ahead of interpros but dont mention who's in the final squad for the games.
