The First of hopefully 3 trips to wembley for Manchester United in the coming weeks and 2 trips for Manchester City.

After the limelight the Champions League enjoyed midweek the oldest cup competition in the world steps into the spotlight as it reaches the semi-final stage for the 130th time.

759 teams have battled it out since August and now we are left with 4 teams.

Who can go all the way?

    My Man U Team:

    VDS

    RAFAEL
    VIDIC
    FERDINAND
    EVRA

    NANI
    PARK
    CARRICK
    VALENCIA

    BERBATOV
    OWEN

Rooney is suspended, Berbs & Owen upfront maybe.

I can see Gibson starting in CM along with Fabio, PIG, Scholes, Anderson and Valencia. I expect at least 5+ changes from Tuesday.

Ah yes, this game. Forgone conclusion, 2-0 United.

If City win this I'll change my avatar to Gary Neville for the rest of the season.

That is by no means a forgone conclusion.

I actually fancy City to win this one, things have been going far too good for us recently.

Interesting... Some sort of jinx Xavi? Or do you have big fears for this game?

It's a derby match. Anything could happen. I'd have City as slight favorites as I think we will be a bit tired from the game build-up recently.

This will make a loss much more palatable. Can I suggest a particular image?

Go for it. Having Neville there would just be a reminder that we won and I can handle that for a few weeks ;)

No jinx or real fears, we're just awful when it boils down to the going getting tough. Monday was a dose of reality and a horrible way to go into a semi final. No Tevez and no goals really from anywhere else.
It's a derby match. Anything could happen. I'd have City as slight favorites as I think we will be a bit tired from the game build-up recently.

The 'it's a derby match' line doesn't wash with me really. It's a game between two sides at a neutral venue, one coming off a hiding in the league and the other having progressed to the semis of the Champions League. There is absolutely no justification for having City as favourites when you consider that there is no Tevez and the two best full backs (Richards and Zabaleta) haven't played in weeks.

Pure pessimism on my part but the truth hurts.

I'd be surprised if Owen played ahead of Hernandez.

Berbatov will start. No doubt about that imo. If it's a 2 up front, it'll be Chicho with him.

Giggs is unlikely to start all things considered he must be wrecked, but Scholesy was rested and I think he'll do well against City. His comments about City today suggest that it's likely he'll play. I'd expect Carrick to partner him but it might be Anderson, with Carrick rested for Tuesday night, what I consider a more important game.

    I'd expect

    VDS
    --O'Shea----Vidic---Smalling--Evra--
    Scholes--Carrick
    --Valencia
    Berbatov
    Nani---
    Chico

you really are a master of reverse psychology.

you tell us all you fear Chelsea will beat Utd, what happens? Utd win comfortably.

you tell us the league's not over. no doubt Utd will saunter to it now.

now you tell us City's famine is over, you fear, cue a trouncing by Utd, 6-0 or something.

Utd to win comfortably i feel. They are streets ahead of City in regards being a team. City might have some brilliant players but they are playing in a formation that limits them. Mancini has been a disaster as far as i can see. They play anti-football at every opportunity they get and Utd. will have too much for them again. 2-0 Utd

would love to see a good attacking team with AJ, Silva and the good Balotelli (not the above moany one) sitting behind Dzeko, with DeJong and Toure in too. And as for our back 4?

I cant see us winning this. even with NDJ back, our back 4 hasnt been good enough. Utd will be too able to take advantage of that.

they misspelt Nani (Johnson), Berbatov(Hernandez), Van Der Sar and not sure about Toure getting in either tbh...Richards and Rafael I'm not sure about either.

Looking at Fergie's comments today, it seems nailed on that Anderson will start. Anderson and Scholes + another or Hernandez up front.

It's City, so Fergie will want to win. Beyond that, he's a big believer in momentum, he'll think it's better to win and be tired than to lose and be fresh, so we might see Carrick out there. Carrick, Scholes, Anderson with Nani, Valencia and Berbatov would defo get the job done imo.

That has to be a joke, for me its:

    VDS

    Rafael - Vidic - Kompany - Evra

Nani - Toure - De Jong - Silva

    Berbatov - Tevez

Don't think anybody can leave out Nani and Berbatov given their form this season.

It's pretty amazing. 8 City players. 3 United players.

You gotta think they'd be looking at the league and just be dumbfounded as to why United are 1st in the League, in the semis of the FA Cup and in the semis of the Champions League and City are 4th in the league, in the semis of the FA Cup and knocked out of the UEFA Cup.

Hart has had a better season than Van Der Sar? NO!

Johnson has had a better season than Nani? NO!

Richards has had a better season than Rafael? Tough one but I think Rafael would get the nod.

Hernandaz or Berbatov is a tight call...

    VDS
    Rafael
    Vidic
    Kompany
    Zabaleta
    de Jong

    Giggs
    Nani
    Silva
    Tevez

    Chico

i'm right and you know it ;)

the only problem i had was Chico, and i know Berba is top scorer, but the fact Fergie has trusted Chico with the 'business end' games so far, i think it just swings it in his favour. he only has 4 less goals or something overall, and most of Berba's have come in 3/4 games iirc.

apart from that, the rest was easy enough. i had to flip a coin between Raf/Richards.

these things don't matter obviously either. Utd, as a unit, are a notch better at least, no matter how individuals have played.

There's a decent shout for him to be in it but it's meant to be over the entire season, and it's easy to get carried away by Gigg's sensational form over the last few weeks and put him in there over that. Toure/De Jong have been consistently better if you take the season as a whole.

City are wanting to use the same coach they travelled in the last time they were in an FA Cup semi final, the only problem is that the woodworm ate it and the horses that pulled it are dead.:)

    Hahaha

I'm a lot more confident going into this game than the Chelsea game anyways, but all this talk of treble talk might get to their heads. I'm all for giving Michael Owen playing time but I can't see why Hernandez shouldn't get his game.

Toure really hasn't been that great. Watch him week in, week out and he just looks unfit and lethargic a lot of the time.

Having said that, Giggs deserves to be nowhere any best teams, unless it's players over 35.

Oh I know he hasn't been anything special, but he definitely deserves a place in that team going on how inconsistent our midfield has been this season.

Still bitter that he jumped ship at a young age?!

Maybe you should lose that self imposed CL boycott! You missed 2 masterclasses from the man against Chelsea!

Ah so two good recent performances is enough to please the short term memory? As I posted in the Player of the Year thread -
Because two good Champions League appearances do not a season make. The award is voted for in February so if we take it to the end of that month even, Giggs had two goals and five assists from from 17 appearances. He completed 90 minutes just eight times between August and the start of March.

He also missed seven games between the end of October and mid December (when he featured for six minutes against Arsenal). There is no way he should be mentioned in the same breathe as those chosen, and even some of those missing from the list.

I'm all for a bit of sentiment and rewarding legends but that card has been used already.

So yeah, not deserving of any accolades this year other than 'Old Dude Done Alright' :)

He's been consistently Uniteds most level headed and creative central midfielder this season. IMO he's been better than Scholes. And the rest. He has been outstanding in more than 2 good recent performances.

Against City at OT earlier this year he was unreal too :)

    Team prediction.

    Adno--Carrick
    --Valencia
    Nani/Park---

    Berba
    Chico

Only big threat for united will be their wingers and them crossing balls into the box, quell them there and i would be confident we can win this one. Rafael could start in place of Sheasy though have a feeling Fergie will stick to the more experienced RB and height will be important if Dzeko starts for them though having said that there's no doubting Raf's aerial ability.

    Will go 2-0 United

If there are any Irish Utd fans going to the match, you may share the flight with Liam Gallagher. He will be flying from Dublin to watch the game then flying back 'hopefully with a load of united fans crying into their sickbags'.
