So this is kicking off at noon today.
    http://www.realbid.co.uk/realbidIrish/gallery.asp

Does anyone think it will provide a useful insight to the market?

I could be well wrong but I think there are a number of people who have cash and will buy at prices far higher than they need to.
This may give the impression that the market has stabled but really it will be a minority of cash rich dead cats bouncing.
In the heat of an auction people can pay far in excess of what something may be worth. Indeed, I have witnessed car auctions where people have bid and paid prices on cars in excess of normal retail value.
It will probably take a number of these auctions to gain any useful insight imo.

I don't think it will provide any insight at all.

The only people that can buy the property are cash buyers so it doesn't reflect market value when the properties in question aren't available to a large chunk of the market.

They are distressed properties that are being sold at slashed prices. From what I hear the majority of bidders will be foreign investors looking for a bargain.

    I think it's a bit over-hyped tbh

I think that this is an impression that has been created by the auctioneers, why would anyone from abroad invest in Irish property at the moment

Winning bid for an apartment in Portlaoise nearly double the reserve comes from somebody out on the street!

If the auctioneer thinks it funny.

Am I the only one thinking that the bidders have totally lost the run of themselves? Better value to be had in private sales.....

Retail Unit, Castle Street, Co. Tipperary, Roscrea reserve €205,000 sold €336,000

Good value, 35 year lease with an annual income of €35,000 p.a. It was probably the sitting tenants that bought it.

but won't be the bottom if vacant properties are all put on the market, how about putting the cupple of hundred maybe thousand i'm not sure apartments that are all empty down in south dublin on the market, it'll be false till then..

This is the money of people which is burning a hole in their pockets, well i'll keep my powder dry for now, that 3 bed semi in dundrum was a joke its a dump and i can't think you would have paid much more 3 years ago.

i'm surprised the churchtown houses went for 500k only considering that 3bed semi lot 10 got 410k i certainly know which were better value,

the interesting one is the apartment in rathfarnam not making the reserve as there are plenty more like that around gathering dust.

See someone was looking for 500 euro increments and he told him no 1000 min and he didn't rebid. Strange I thought however maybe not.

Not a chance. Ireland is doomed for a few more years, probably a decade at least.

Even the central bank think 2016 will be worse than 2011.

You can get much better value on Daft.ie & thats saying something!!

Some of those houses went for 150,000 over there value...?? there are bigger houses on daft.ie in better locations that are much better value if you compare??

even then i would not touch them for a couple more years..

Im confused??...why are these idiots spending well over the odds on these houses??

Lot no 10 has planning permission for two detached dwellings, .although you'd be mad to try and build something on that site in todays market. As for the two in Churchtown both of them need a lot of work done. Obviously lots of people out there with spare cash or could they be foreign investors? Crazy prices tho

I'd say its down to auction psychology. People get a rush of blood to the head in the heat of the moment of a bidding war, feel their pride is hurt if they cede to a higher bid or they are missing out on a bargain if others are prepared to pay more....?
