Before you start, I know some of the options are not derbies in the proper sense.

Feel free to share tales of random insanity witnessed at these games.

    I voted " Other "

My favourite derby match is Chelsea v West Ham. The old fella is a Hammers fan and is always fun too go out for a few pints with him for it.

West Ham – Millwall. Nothing has come close for me to be honest. I’ve had a ST for years with West Ham (had to give it up this season) and been on some very ‘interesting’ trips including Palermo and the like. Couple of other clubs are always good banter, Chelsea, Spurs, Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham and the likes but Millwall tops it for me personally. Went to two when we were in the Championship, an away trip to the Den is an interesting experience. However, nothing came close to the League Cup match last season...

Again, Boca vs River, bigger than 90% of those games.

    stanfacepalm.jpg

At least the fiery contest between Reading and Leeds has been rightly left out!

My recent favourite Derby game was last Tuesday when they beat Leeds.

Hands up, thats me taking a dump with my clothes on...

Is there any way I can replace Lyon & St E with the above?

Quite funny, my old man is a massive Chelsea fan (caused him much grief when I didn't follow in his footsteps). He goes over quite a bit still, less so since R.A took over, but we always try and get the other in the away end which is always good banter.

    Galway United vs Shligo Rovers.

Favourite to watch on tv is Juve vs. AC Milan.

According to this website it is Fenerbahce - Galatasaray.
Could be a bit hectic there i suppose

If the question would be which one i would like to go to the most, it would be Boca - River Plate.
    Just for La Bombonera alone

Has to be the Bohs/rovers one for me just for the sessions and bitterness of it. If i could pick any other derby in the world to attend then it would have to be west ham/millwall just for pure hatred....warzone, the numbers both sides pull would have the british army on their toes!!!

East Anglian derby. Can't wait until next week!

    Boca v River.

i've seen it twice in full if i'm honest, and it's fúcking carnage.

    nothing comes close.

    epic stuff.

mainly because i'm not a fan of either team and i can just simply watch the hate.

    Celtic and Rangers for me

Rovers and Bohs here by a mile - the game with the crowd trouble stands out as the maddest in the last decade or so but the vast majority of games are safe and a great atmosphere for neutrals and supporters alike. Rovers and Pats is starting to generate great atmosphere and poison games again in the last while too.

United and City in England. I know the Liverpool and Leeds games are poison too but I love United beating City above anybody else. The fixture will get a good head of stream back now too with all the money going into City.

My mate has said the same thing, been to see Boca game but not this one.

They are crazy over there. They make Millwall supporters look like angels.

Celtic and Rangers for me, I must watch the next Boca vs River game though.

Just checked it out and it is Boca vs River on the 14th of next month. One not to miss.

bohs vs rovers would be crazy if they had more fans, not 30,000 but just like for a derby could fill mayb 25,000 seats.

its too low key to be a great derby imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,934 ✭✭✭OhNoYouDidn't

I used to work with a chap from Cairo, and he told me some tales of the Al Athy v Zamalek game. Bonkers. 10,000 troops armed with AK47's sitting one each on the end of each row.

Its basically the Muslim Old Firm The Instanbul derby has similar undertones - one team in Europe, one in Asia.

Id actually blame the gards on their over-policing of the game. This game could attract thousends more if people werent made to feel so uncomfortable at the matches.

The gards could and should take a leaf out of their english counterparts and learn how to manage a game. The Tallaght games are grand and you can see that in the size of the crowd but dalymount is a joke at this stage.

West Ham United V Millwall ????????????

Surely it West Ham United V Leighton Orient (Tottenahm would be a better one), Milwall are the other side of the river for it to be a Derby match.

You have to wonder what they have against the club, or maybe even just football in general. The attitude of the Tallaght Gardai is miles ahead: friendly and non-aggressive - to my eyes at least.

Sligo Rovers v Galway has been poor for a few years now - I don't get that feeling anymore when we are about to play them.

Hamburg - Bremen Nordderby is a lot bigger than Hamburg - Pauli too tbh. We don't play Pauli enough.

    I voted other: Nordderby.

love to know what the Inspector does say to them beforehand as they approach the match with the attitude that everyone in the ground is a thug its ridiculous. Tallaght is miles better but Ive one gripe with them and thats the luas situation not been allowed off at any of the tallaght stops but they seem to be getting better every match played up there. There never in your face and the riot squad are told to keep their distance...the bohs/pats match up there last year was the only set back i have witnessed so far.

Totally agree young watson. I had the original thread on footballs greatest rivalries, which included the Hammers v Spurs, yet for some reason the mods locked my thread and started up a 'better' one!

Probably got a bit miffed because I didn't consider the league of ireland rivalry to be up there with Real & Barca!
