    Hi all,

just wondering if eating 125grms of nuts is a reasonably health lunch. I exercise fairly regularly but the calorie intake scares me a bit (1200kcal) along with the fat (13g saturated fat). Actually what have I done.

    Where's that Michelin suit.

It's not that bad. 125g of nuts is about 750 cals, depending on the type of nut. Don't worry about the fat content, it's all good fats, including the saturated fat (which is not bad for you, transfats are the evil ones). The cals are a bit high, but a few studies have found that your body doesn't seem to digest all the calories in nuts properly, and doesn't treat it the same way as, say, 750 cals of pizza.

Eating nothing but nuts for lunch isn't my idea of a balanced meal. They are high in calories, so for anyone looking to lose bodyfat I wouldn't eat a whole packet of them, however a small handful of them is fine.

As for the nutritional fat in nuts, what's wrong with that? And what's wrong with including saturated fat in your diet? If you're looking to lose bodyfat then nutritional fat and saturated fat are needed in your diet. Not to mind all the other health benefits associated with nutritional fat such as improved heart function, offsetting many diseased such as alzheimers, better joint health, better memory, concentration, sleep, hair, skin, nails........the list is endless. In fact, not including dietary fat in your daily diet is harmful to your health.

    This is a v.good reply.

Also my limited knowledge would lend me to think that eating that much nuts per day would increase your omega-6 intake a little too much. Maybe some of the more informed contributors to this forum could confirm if this would make a significant enough difference for you to worry about?? I used to eat a lot of nuts when I was bulking and noticed no side effects, although I supplemented with fish oil everday in order to keep the 3:6 ratio on track.

Do you have any links to those studies ?

I'm not being smart, I'm just genuinely interested.

Yeah i was gonna also bring up omega 6 - inflammatory effect longterm in the absence of enough omeaga 3. Maybe cut back on the nuts and add them to something like cottage cheese, yogurt, some fruit etc.

Ask me again when I've got internet that works at anything like a decent speed. Even getting onto Boards takes ages, I don't fancy doing searched. They shouldn't be hard to find, they were reported in the media.
