‘Loudermilk’ Season 3 Headed to Amazon

After temporarily losing its home on AT&T’s now-defunct Audience Network, Sony Pictures Television has announced that Season 1 and Season 2 of the Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort co-created comedy will premiere on Amazon’s SVOD service Friday, March 12. Additionally, a premiere date for the Ron Livingston-starring series’ third season will be determined and unveiled soon. Farrelly (“Dumb and Dumber”) and Mort (“The Colbert Report”) return to write and executive produce.

“I could not be more pleased that ‘Loudermilk’ is finding a second life on Prime Video,” Farrelly commented in a statement. “It’s a show that I’m extremely proud of and one that deserves to be seen by all. I would argue that it has the best ensemble cast on television and deserves to be in the conversation with ‘Schitt’s Creek’ and ‘Cobra Kai,’ shows that started on one network but found a much wider audience on another. This show is going to give you binge-watching at its best!”

    Let the Right One In
Showtime has given a formal pilot green light to Let the Right One In, a vampire drama starring Demián Bichir (A Better Life). The project hails from Away creator Andrew Hinderaker, who will serve as showrunner, Seith Mann (Homeland), who will direct, and Tomorrow Studios, which has been the driver behind the project in its various incarnations for more than six years.

Inspired by the best-selling 2004 novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist and its 2008 Swedish film adaptation, the series centers on a father, Mark (Bichir) and his 12-year-old daughter whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the minimal amount of human blood she needs to stay alive.

They're already changing the core premise, so I guess they'll change more than enough to squeeze a series out of it.

Shaka: King Of The Zulu Nation
Showtime has given a series order to hourlong drama Shaka: King of the Zulu Nation, executive produced and directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day). The series, an epic drama centered around one man’s personal journey from stigmatized childhood to warrior king, hails from writers Olu Odebunmi and Tolu Awosika (The Terminal List), Ben Silverman and Howard T. Joe Exotic Documentary for BBC in the Works From Louis Theroux

10 years after he first met the Tiger King, 'Louis Theroux: The Cult of Joe Exotic' will see the doc maker return to Oklahoma to explore what happened since.
The Tiger King is getting the Louis Theroux documentary treatment.

Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic, will be the subject of a new feature- length film from the BBC's famed doc maker, who returns to America for the first time since 2019.

With the working title Louis Theroux: The Cult of Joe Exotic, the feature was commissioned by BBC Two and comes 10 years after Theroux first met Exotic whilst making his documentary America’s Most Dangerous Pets. Heading back to Oklahoma, Theroux will explore what has happened since, with the big cat man now residing in a federal prison, having been found guilty of a murder-for-hire plot and multiple animal cruelty charges. But rather than a pariah, Exotic is now a media phenomenon with a well-funded campaign team who were attempting to win him a presidential pardon. Meanwhile, Nicolas Cage is due to play Exotic in an upcoming CBS drama series picked up by Amazon.

"This is one of those quintessentially American stories, taking place in the heartland of Oklahoma, with a cast of characters almost too colourful and larger-than-life to be believed," said Theroux. "I spent eight or nine days filming at the park back in 2011, over the course of three separate visits. I’d forgotten how much we shot until I went back into the footage during lockdown. It’s extraordinary how much was there. Since then the story just got stranger and bigger, and in going back at the end of last year I uncovered a real-life drama that took me in directions I never could have expected."

Added Clare Sillery, the BBC's head of commissioning, documentaries, history and religion: "In this follow-up to Louis’ revelatory first-look at the life of Joe Exotic in America’s Most Dangerous Pets, viewers will be taken even more deeply into the weird world of one of America’s most notorious figures. This feature-length special will be full to the brim with never-before-seen footage and brand new interviews with those on all sides of the Joe Exotic story."

‘Man Who Fell to Earth’ Series Shifts to Showtime From Paramount Plus

The drama series starring Chiwetel Ejiofor was originally developed for Paramount Plus, née CBS All Access. The show’s segue to Showtime is the second half of the decision made last month to send “Halo,” the long-awaited adaptation of the popular Xbox video game, to Paramount Plus after it had been years in the making at the cabler.

The series shuffle is a perfect illustration of the calculations going on at major networks and studios all across town as entertainment’s biggest players launch content-hungry streaming platforms.

Programmers were once challenged to figure out which night and time slot would be best to turn a new show into a big hit. Today, execs stare at grids of multiple platform options and strategize how quickly, or not, to give a show a second (or third) window on a sibling channel.
