Billy Campbell To Headline ABC’s ‘National Parks’ Drama Pilot From Kevin Costner

Co-written by Costner, Aaron Helbing and Jon Baird and to be directed by Anthony Hemingway, National Parks follows a small group of elite national parks service agents as they solve crimes while protecting the parks — which, while being known for their sweeping, beautiful landscapes, also attract a vast array of criminal activity.

Campbell stars as Cal Foster, an experienced ISB special agent who has worked in the field for years but is now stepping into a new leadership role. He wonders how the team he’s worked alongside will respond to taking orders from him, but Cal is determined to honor the position and help his fellow agents no matter what.

Costner, Helbing, Baird and Hemingway executive produce alongside Rod Lake, Ivan Cohen, Ken Halsband via Territory Pictures and Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson via A+E Studios.

This marks Campbell’s return to ABC where he headlined the cult 1999 drama series Once and Again, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He recently starred in the CTV/Hulu series Cardinal, which landed him three consecutive Canadian Screen Awards.

CBS Eyes Fourth NCIS Series; Latest Spinoff Would Be Set in Hawaii

CBS is looking to expand the NCIS franchise outside the contiguous United States.

TVLine has learned that the Eye network is in the early stages of developing a new iteration of NCIS, this one set in Hawaii. This would mark CBS’ third NCIS spinoff and the fourth NCIS series overall, joining the Mark Harmon-headlined mothership, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.

Netflix to Debut Anime Series Based on Valve’s Popular Dota Game

Netflix which struck gold with its adaptation of “The Witcher” a year ago, is looking for another crossover hit from the games industry with the announcement of an anime series based on Valve Corp.’s Dota 2.

“Dota: Dragon’s Blood” will premiere on March 25 and feature characters from the multiplayer title such as the Dragon Knight Davion and Princess Mirana. The game, while free to play, is one of the biggest earners among PC titles, using some of the proceeds from players buying in-game cosmetics and upgrades to fund competitive-play prizes in excess of $150 million to date. Dota 2 had 7.7 million unique players over the last month.

The series will consist of eight episodes of “epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters,” said Ashley Edward Miller, the showrunner and executive producer, who co-wrote the screenplay for 2011’s “Thor” movie

Working Title Options TV Rights to Tycoon Robert Maxwell Book ‘Fall’ by ‘The Dig’ Writer John Preston

Working Title has optioned TV rights to bestselling author John Preston’s ( “A Very English Scandal,” “The Dig”) non-fiction book “Fall: The Mystery of Robert Maxwell.”

The book, published by Viking, an imprint of Penguin Books, earlier this month, charts British media mogul Robert Maxwell’s rise, fall and mysterious death.

The project, being developed as a limited TV series, will be produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (pictured). Working Title head of drama Surian Fletcher-Jones will oversee development, with a view to commencing production later this year.

In February 1991, Maxwell had finally outwitted Rupert Murdoch, and completed his purchase of the ailing New York Daily News when he drowned at sea just nine months later, having fallen off his yacht, the Lady Ghislaine. The incident could have been an accident, suicide or, as some conspiracists claim, murder, leading to the collapse of his empire and family.

Wednesday Addams Live-Action Series Set at Netflix With Tim Burton Directing

A Wednesday Addams live-action series has been ordered at Netflix, Variety has learned.

The project was first reported as being in development back in October, though no network or streamer was attached at that time. Netflix has given the coming-of-age series an eight episode order.

Based on the character originally created by Charles Addams, “Wednesday” is a young adult TV series described as a a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. She attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

The search is currently on for an actor to lead the series in the role of John Constantine, with Guy Bolton attached to write. According to sources, the show would tie in to the “Justice League Dark” series that is currently at the works at the streamer with J.J. Abrams executive producing via Bad Robot.

The show would reportedly follow a younger version of the character and focus more on the horror elements of the comics rather than the religious ones.

Donald Glover has signed an eight-figure overall deal with Amazon Studios, sources tell Variety, marking an exit from his current deal with Disney’s FX. His brother Stephen Glover, a collaborator in writing and producing FX’s “Atlanta,” has also inked an overall with the studio.

As part of the agreement, Donald Glover’s work will be highlighted with a curated content portal on the Prime Video service, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Sources also say that Malia Obama is joining the writers’ room of a Glover project at the streaming service’s studio, a mini-room for a Janine Nabers project about a “Beyonce-like figure.” Nabers is known for her work on “Watchmen,” “Away,” and “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce.”

Pascal Breton’s Federation Entertainment is set to develop “Monte-Cristo,” an ambitious series adapted from Alexandre Dumas’ literary classic, to be directed by Jérôme Salle (“Zulu,” “Anthony Zimmer”).

“Monte-Cristo,” written by Dan Franck (“Les Hommes de l’Ombre,” “Carlos”), will be a modern reimagining of Dumas’ 1844 classic “The Count of Monte Cristo” and will be set in the 21st century to tackle contemporary issues.

The series will follow Edmond Dantès, a promising young man who is falsely arrested and imprisoned without trial in a South American prison after witnessing a crime. He finally gets out of jail and returns to Paris with a vast fortune inherited from a former inmate, ready to avenge himself from the so-called friends in high places who framed him and led to his imprisonment.

Canal Plus and Sky Studios have teamed up on Spaghetti Western TV series “Django” with production set to start in May and German actor Matthias Schoenaerts (“Bullhead”) in the title role.

Co-produced by Italy’s Cattleya, which is controlled by ITV, and France’s Atlantique Productions, “Django” is being described as a high-concept English-language reimagining of the world of “Django,” the cult 1966 Sergio Corbucci Western that launched the career of Italian icon Franco Nero, but with the grit and edginess of today’s premium TV.

The series’ executive producers include Riccardo Tozzi for Cattleya and Olivier Bibas for Atlantique.

The ten-episode show is set in the Wild West in the 1860s and 1870s. “Sarah and John have founded New Babylon, a city of outcasts, full of men and women of all backgrounds, races and creeds, that welcomes everyone with open arms,” reads the synopsis.

Netflix and Belgium’s Flemish community public service broadcaster VRT have commissioned eight-part crime drama “Diamonds.”

Co-created by Yuval Yefet (“Fauda,” “Line in the Sand”) and Rotem Shamir (“Hostages,” “Fauda,” “Line in the Sand”), who also directs, the series with mafia-style undertones, is set within Antwerp’s diamond district and follows the struggles of one of the city’s most influential diamond-dealing families.

“Diamonds,” to be shot in Dutch, English and Yiddish, will be co-produced by Keshet International and Belgium’s De Mensen. It was commissioned by Netflix alongside VRT’s head of scripted, Wim Janssen, and is supported by Screen Flanders.

The series will be executive produced by De Mensen’s head of scripted Pieter Van Huyck and Ivy Vanhaecke (“Undercover”), alongside Keshet International VP of global drama Atar Dekel and CEO Alon Shtruzman and Keshet Media Group CEO Avi Nir.

Anna Friel, star of Netflix/ITV crime drama Marcella, is to front a television adaption of Karen Hamilton’s novel The Perfect Girlfriend.

The drama will be produced by Pulse Films, the Vice-owned company behind Sky/AMC drama Gangs of London, and co-produced by Friel’s new production company Wonder Well Productions.

Friel, who also starred in ABC’s Pushing Daisies, will play Juliette, an attractive, confident and driven woman who is training for her new career as a flight attendant.

The darkness in her past doesn’t matter, because she’s moved beyond all that, and she’s building a great new life for herself—one that will impress her ex-boyfriend, Nate, who left her in a foolish moment of commitment-phobia, one that he surely regrets now. Freddy Syborn, a writer and co-exec producer on Disney+’s upcoming Ms. Marvel series and co-creator of Jack Whitehall comedy drama Bounty Hunters, is adapting Daniel Cole’s Ragdoll for AMC and UKTV network Alibi.

The series comes from Sid Gentle Films, the British production company behind Killing Eve.

The six-part drama, described as a “modern-day Faustian thriller”, is centred around the murder of six people, whose bodies have been dismembered and sewn into the shape of one grotesque body — nicknamed the ‘Ragdoll’.

Assigned to the shocking case are DS Nathan Rose, recently reinstated to the London Met; his best friend and boss, DI Emily Baxter; and the unit’s new recruit, DC Lake Edmunds. The ‘Ragdoll Killer’ taunts the police by sending them a list of his next victims, with Rose’s name among them. And with those victims to protect, our heroes soon come under intense public scrutiny.

Pantheon AMC’s first animated, primetime drama

William Hurt (Black Widow, Goliath), Maude Apatow (Euphoria, The King of Staten Island), Corey Stoll (Billions, Ant-Man) and Lara Pulver (The Angel of Darkness, Sherlock) have joined the cast of Pantheon, AMC’s first animated, primetime drama. Additionally, Pantheon creator and showrunner Craig Silverstein is expanding his relationship with AMC Studios, the studio behind the series, with an exclusive multi-year overall deal. Under the pact, Silverstein will develop and produce new series for AMC Networks’ Entertainment Group as well as other content companies. The news was announced Thursday during AMC’s presentation at the TCA Press Tour.
