Planning a Buck movie, series and anime? That always works out well. Like The Dark Tower.

Clone Wars is the only one I can think of with a theatrical movie to launch a series

List of television programs based on films

But get what you mean, is hard to predict getting a series out of a film before even made.

The Digital Services Act 2024 [EU] ~ Social Media and You ~ Nanny State guidance for parental monitoring of apps ~ Censorship: - broad laws that will probably effect Adult use of same.

Yeah I know we've had plenty of series based on films but not planned.
If doing it right, it means having to sign someone to a film deal as well as television deal.
I suppose these days more actors are open to TV.
Then you have to plan it in a way that the film feels standalone and the timing of the series has to be right. I'm sure some people aren't going to be keen to watch the series if they haven't seen the film. And if the film gets bad reviews people won't want to watch the series.
So yeah the whole thing is a risk.

    Tom Swift

Nancy Drew Spinoff Centered on Tom Swift Eyed at The CW; Iconic Inventor Is Now Black, Gay Billionaire
The CW is developing a Nancy Drew spinoff and — twist! — it’s not centered on The Hardy Boys!

TVLine has learned that a potential new series centered on iconic inventor Tom Swift is being eyed at the network, albeit with a huge (and super-cool) asterisk attached: The formerly white, blonde and straight lead character will now be Black and gay.

Tom Swift follows the “serialized adventures of the billionaire inventor who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him. Tom’s missions will require his genius and flair for innovation guided by love, romance, friendship and the mysteries of the universe yet-unsolved.”

The Tom Swift character will appear in an episode of Nancy Drew‘s upcoming second season. Plans are for Tom to crash into one of Nancy’s investigations, an event which Nancy interprets as supernatural and Tom believes to be cosmically paranormal.

Things I Know To Be True

Nicole Kidman to Star in Amazon Series

Nicole Kidman is coming undone again.

Amazon has handed a straight-to-series order to Things I Know To Be True, a family drama starring and exec produced by the Oscar and Emmy-winning actress. A rep for the streamer confirms to TVLine that the project is being conceived as an ongoing series (like Kidman’s HBO smash Big Little Lies) vs. a limited one (like her current HBO thriller The Undoing).

Based on Andrew Bovell’s Australian play, Things I Know To Be True “is about the resilience of an enduring marriage and the evolving nature of a family’s love, as Bob and Fran Price watch their adult children make unexpected decisions which change the course of their lives.”

In a statement, Kidman gushed, “I’ll never forget the experience I had watching Andrew’s play in Sydney, having one of those transcendent theater experiences. Andrew’s play is exquisite and his scripts for the series are just as good. With Amazon’s belief, Jen Salke’s guidance, and an extraordinary producing team, we have big hopes for what this can be.”

Added Bovell: “This is a story about family, that thing you spend your life trying to escape from only to yearn for what you’ve lost if you ever do. I’m thrilled that an actor of Nicole Kidman’s calibre leads the series in the role of Fran Price. As a mother and a woman she is complicated, difficult and utterly compelling.

    Dopesick

Ray McKinnon To Recur In Hulu Limited Series
Rectify creator and actor Ray McKinnon is set to recur opposite Kaitlyn Dever in Dopesick, Hulu’s eight-episode limited series based on Beth Macy’s bestselling book. The project is from The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield and Touchstone Television.

Written by Danny Strong and directed by Barry Levinson, Dopesick is described as an ambitious, harrowing and compelling look into the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction. The unsparing yet deeply human portraits of the various affected families and their intersecting stories hold up a mirror to where America is right now, while shining a hopeful light on the heroes battling the worst drug epidemic in American history.

McKinnon will play Jerry Mallum, Betsy’s (Dever) father, a religious and stoic coal miner.

In addition to Dever, McKinnon joins previously announced Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, Will Poulter, Rosario Dawson, John Hoogenakker, Philippa Soo and Jake McDorman.

All these series creators having nothing to do but come up with and pitch ideas.
And have to replace all the shows that have been cancelled.

I actually forgot about Nancy Drew even though I binged the whole season or maybe was most of the season before the last few episodes.
