Hi folks, I'm trying to lose weight at present and have lost 16 lbs in the last 9wks. I do hard training with a PT 3times a week and spinning twice. I'm also trying to be careful with what I'm eating but feel that I've plateaued somewhat and was wondering is it due to my diet. I've give a sample of what I'm eating and while I'm very strict during the week, I do have the some treats at the weekend.

Breakfast: porridge/scrambled egg made with lowfat milk. If I'm going training/spinning in the morning, I might also have a protein shake.
Mid morning: a couple pieces of fruit
Lunch: salmon/chicken with leafy salad, tomatoes & cucumber (yuck)
    Midafternoon: more fruit
Dinner: chicken/salmon with green veg and brown rice
Evening: I might have some grapes or something similar

If I was training in the evening, I would probably have a protein shake immediately after, before my dinner

A question I have is that I love grapes and am wondering am I eating too many of them. I would have some grapes nearly every day and could eat up to a carton during the day if I was very hungry. I know they are high in natural sugar and therefore are they very high in calories? Cheers in advance

Besides the training, what kind of lifestyle have you? Are you sitting at a desk all day?

Personally if weightloss was my goal, id ditch the protein shakes. Did i read correctly that potentially you could have two a day if working out twice? Whats the calories in them?

BTW 16 lbs in 9 weeks is a perfect pace to lose weight, well done!!

Hi Dixie Chick, yes, potentially I could have two shakes if I work out twice. The training sessions are very much weights orientated and interval training. I would be tired afterwards and would need something. Do you think I should have something else instead? I don't know what calories are in them, I buy them from my gym who promotes their usage.
Yes, I'm at a desk all day.

If you can post up the nutritional info on the pack next time you have it to hand. See, if you are trying to lose weight then whatever calorie defecit you are making with exercise could be ruled out with the shakes. I totally get it that you will be starved but something small, like an apple or some nuts til you can get home or whereever for breakfast or lunch or dinner cos if you are having the shakes on top of all your food then I dont think grapes are what will slow down your progress

As you lose weight, the amount of calories you need steadily decreases in line with your weight loss.

As you lost those initial 16lbs, did you eat the same amount of food throughout from beginning to end?

If yes, you *may* now need to reduce your calorie consumption a little.

Also, in a carton of grapes (.5kg) there are approx 320 calories i.e. not very much considering the bulk.
