The biggest club football competition in the world, sees two of the biggest clubs in English football battle it out for the second time...

    154990.JPG

With the tie hanging on one goal...

    154991.JPG

Will Rooney do the talking with his feet...?

    154992.JPG

And will Torres eventually break his duck...?

    154993.JPG

... whatever happens, it's all still to play for.... and here's hoping for another classic encounter!

    1-2/0-2 Chelsea... :(

Us United fans know this is not over yet.

Chelsea score first and it could be very interesting.

I fancy United to win on basis that we just seem be playing with more confidence and belief then Chelsea and being at home is bonus.

Torres to burst into life and score 2 away goals for a 2-2 victory. God I'll have to bet on that now I've said it! :p

-Only once in the history of the champions league has a team gone out in the knockout stages after winning the first leg away from home.

-Old Trafford has been a fortress for us in the CL, and we are unbeaten there this season.

I'm hoping these facts can remain the same after tomorrow night but Chelsea have the ability to turn it around.

I think Utd will go out and really go at Chelsea because if we sit back then they will punish us. I think Utd need the first goal, if Chelsea get it, advantage to them...

I don't remember ever being as nervous taking a goal lead home for the second tie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭Nemanja91

I can see Chelsea getting an early goal. :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,215 ✭✭✭Cypher_sounds

I reckon we will win 2-0. Rooney to score and someone else, don't think Chelsea will score, Rio and Vida to stomp out their attack once again.

Chelsea looked far more dangerous I thought when Torres was with anelka. It is set up for Torres to score at least one. Is should be another of those games that turn on one decision. Chelsea still have it in them to come out the winner in a 2-1 scoreline but if I had to put money on a result a tight 1-1 draw for me.
    Looking forward to immensely.

I'm much more confident now with Rio back. A couple of weeks ago i thought they would hammer us because as good as Smalling has been he just doesn't have the experience...

Saw on SSN that Ancelotti confirmed Torres will be starting.

TBH I was gonna predict a 2-1 win for Man United, but based upon the league form and Utd winning at Stamford Bridge my prediction is:

    2-0 To United.

chelseas midfield badly lacks creativity, lampard, essien & ramires are good players but lack awareness, dribbling & passing ability, its going to take a set piece for chelsea to score imo

A draw, so Manchester United to progress. Looking forward to it though, hopefully it will be a good game.

The home/away thing seems less daunting when its in the same country for some reason. Chelsea are well capable of going to OT and winning, as they did last season.

I have a very bad feeling about this one, things have been going far too well lately. Chelsea to go through with a 1-2 win, Torres to break his duck for leaving Utd fans sickened, Liverpool fans conflicted and Chelsea fans in ecstasy.

Could be a rough week with the semi final a few days later.:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,258 ✭✭✭MUSEIST

Not confident at all as a chelsea fan tbh, not because I fear utd but because chelsea have been poor and lack creativity for the forwards. I dont really give chelsea any chance. Just a formality for utd methinks but hoping that chelsea can find 1 decent performance this season and produce it tomorow, don't see it happening though.

    7-1

Hopefully we revert back to 4-3-3 for this one.
I honestly hope its either Torres or Drogba but not both, they don't play well together and a game of this importance is not the game to give that partnership another outing and sit for 60 odd minutes with the fingers crossed praying that it pays off.
    Ideally:
    Anelka--Torres--Malouda/Yuri
    or
    Anelka--Drogba--Malouda/Yuri

I sense a general bad feeling about this amongst Utd fans, myself included.

I actually think, as fans we would feel more confident going in at 1-1, as we would know exactly what we have to do. The tie would also have been more in the balance and the pressure of expectation on the team would be much less.

As it stands now, if we go out, we will have thrown it away and we will be absolutely devastated. I think that's why there is a nervousness in the air, and I just hope that hasn't transferred into the team and they approach the game in the right manner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Man, I really hope we get this done. It's there for us. Chelsea have to attack, and if we can not concede for the first half, they'll start taking more and more risks.

If I was picking between Hernandez or Berbatov, I'd pick the latter. He offers so much more in terms of possession, which is vital for our midfield being as weak as it is.

I really think Carrick's performance could decide this game. If he puts himself at the top of it, he could get us over the line in the first half.

We have to keep our heads defensively. Away goals make things very unusual, and while we've got one in the bag, if they score twice, we're in real trouble.

Man I am so damm excited.

If you think about it, our 'away' goal is entirely irrelevant, in terms of the away goals rule. We cannot win this tie on away goals, only Chelsea can.

    3-0 united

But if this game ends up 0-0 which I very much doubt it will, we will have won the tie with the away goal we got at the Bridge.

First goal is obviously crucial, I reckon united will go into the semis through

We will have won the tie with by virtue of an aggregate score of 1-0, if that was to happen. Not by any virtue that the goal was scored away. Obviously.

Chelsea can only win on the away goals ruling now.

It's not that hard to understand my point is it:confused:

My prediction is 0-0 for most of the game, with United grabbing a late Hernandez goal on the break.

2-1 to Chelsea. Torres to break his duck in fine fashion.

Think Chelsea are still in with a big shout here. Should have scored from Lampard in 1st half and should have had a pen at the end. They have performed well at OT many times before.

Is it not a bit early for this thread? It's still another month before May 12th!!!

I think it will be much the same as the last game. Few great saves by both goalies but with United grabbing a goal in the last 20mins. Can't wait for the game now and hopefully today won't drag out to long like last week!!

Cant wait for this game and its going to be some night on here, this thread could be more entertaining then the game :D

Anywya, my prediction for the chelsea team is 4-4-2

    Cech

    Ivanovic Alex Terry Cole

    Ramires Essien Lamps Malouda

    Drogba Torres

In truth I'd much prefer if we went 4-3-3 and went with,

    Cech

    Ivanovic Alex Terry Cole

    Essien
    Ramires Lamps

    Yossi B. Malouda

    Torres

I think Yossi can get at Evra, who has been far from his best season.

Chopper Harris and Zola to play.:D

I'm nervous about this game,an early goal for Chelsea and anything could happen.
If we score first I reckon it's night night Chelsea.

    United to do just enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

    Feeling nervous.

I think Chelsea will do what they did last week, come out all guns blazing and batter us for the first 10 to 15 minutes.

I think if we can weather that then we will progress.

Hoping for a repeat performance from Carrick.

They were allowed far too much space last week up the right so Id expect Park to cover that area.

Evra better have proper fookin boots on tonight too!
    :pac:

Really nervous about this game. I think United will need to score two tonight to guarantee qualification. I can see Chelsea going all out here and throwing caution to the wind seeing as it is their last chance to win silverware this season.

I'm gonna predict 2-2 tonight, with Chelsea dominating the play but United catching them on the counter.

You make some great posts flah, but I've never known anyone like you for the pessimism.

I was a bit nervous about the match, then I reminded myself that we're a better team than Chelsea. Simple as. United by two goals!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,240 ✭✭✭bullpost

Cant see past United for this one.

Chelsea would need to find fifth gear to win tonight and that just hasn't happened since Wilkins was pushed.

Only hope is if we get an early goal and that stirs us into life , but realistically can't see it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭Spazdarn

It's hard not to be cautious, if Evra didn't clear off the line they'd have equalised and if Evra had been caught for that blatant foul it could be a couplely different second leg.

I'm one part nervous, one part excited. I'm generally content when we have Rio and Vidic in defense and Nani and Valencia available.

Really a big fan of the work Valencia does for the team, he's heavily right footed but he seems to just cut out the ****, get the ball, beat the man, cross the ball. Nothing fancy but extremely effective, add that to the unpredictability of Nani's play and I think we'll make chances.

I'd imagine we'll be going 4-5-1 for this one - unless Chelsea line-up like last week.

    1-1, cautious and nervy ending.

Hope Anderson gets the start alongside Carrick and Giggs in midfield (unless Scholesy is back?) and Nani and Valencia wide with Rooney up top.

Would love to be there if/when this is belted out tonight.

United are lucky to have an advantage going into this but they no point going on about what might have been. Simple truth is Chelsea have to step up in a big way which they are capable of doing. Chelsea 2-0, and Torres to get off the mark....this has to come true eventually :D.
