Compensate for missing out on compound lifts

    Right currently unemployed and really don't have the funds for joining a gym(literally saving every penny I can for plans to emigrate). At home I have a bench barbell+dumbells and assorted weights along with a chin up bar. I'm also hoping to mix in some swimming just because I enjoy it. If anyone has opinions on what would be a good program using the above I'm open to suggestions although I do plan on trying to make one up myself, I can just imagine a DIY newbie programme being awful :P

    So realistically I won't be able to manage any squats/deadlifts at least not safely anyway, it's only a normal barbell not olympic. Any opinions on what would be good alternatives for these.

    Another thing the info on training/rest days is something I've always been a bit confused on so many different people come out with a different answer is there any REAL difference or is it just a case of personal preference assuming you're giving yourself a reasonable amount of rest time and keeping up with the training.

    Do you have enough weight to do squats and deadlifts but you aren't able to do them safely?

    I've got 60kg worth of weights. I figured that without a squat rack getting the bar into the right position would be awkward along with setting it back down when you're finished. I suppose actually I could manage the deadlifts but I had heard that without an oly bar you eventually become limited by grip.

    Try clean the weight to front squat position. There's been loads of threads on here about home work-outs. Google supine rows, push-ups, band assisted pull-ups and the like.

    Squats;
    Hack Squats
    Clean and front squat
    Clean, press & overhead squat

    All fine with out a rack imo

    Deadlift:
    I don't see wht you won't do this as "you'll be limited without an oly bar". You aren't limited yet are you. Besides having only 60kg of plates is going to be factor before grip is

    Single leg squats, step ups, lunges, RDL, single leg deadlift.

    Bench press, OH press, (weighted) push up, (weighted) inverted row, BB row, single arm press, (weighted) pull up/chin up.

    All compound lifts. You're really not that limited.

    Get some rings and you can add dips and make all the bodyweight stuff harder again.

    +1 on the rings, great addition to any home workout. Search for rubadub, he's a user here who's pretty inventive when it comes to home workouts with some of the gear he's made
