    Are Nokia still making phones?

    Will symbian not just die already. Good god. That's not an OS i would get involved with ever again.
    As is the way with nokia, they have nice hardware but crap software.

    They say the browser is new, and 3 times faster, but i bet it's not as good as the browser and Nokia's N900. Which is one of the best browsers out there, even though the phone is nearly 2 years old at this stage.

    thats why we have the likes of opera or skyfire to use we need to see this browser in action which we should do tomorow

    I understand that Nokia has signed up with Microsoft in the last couple of months to produce Windows 7 phones. It looks like the first of these phones will be out towards the end of the year.

    I used to always gwr nokia. Never had any problems with symbian at all. The N95-2 is my all time favourite phone. The N97 was muck though. I'd love to see Nokia go android but that's unlikely. Windows is a good move

    "Symbian Anna"

    http://press.nokia.com/2011/04/12/nokia-strengthens-smartphone-portfolio-with-two-new-products-and-a-renewed-user-experience/

    Looks good, not too many details released actually, for what should be a big update. I did read on another site that there would be further updates, whether that's true or not is another story.

    Was a loyal nokia fan for 10years and bought a Blackberry a few months ago and wont be getting rid of it in the long term. I'd say nokia have lost alot of customers in the last few years!!

    They only officially announced last month that they would be bringing one WP7 out in the 4th quarter. I'm pretty confident they'll be out by then. :)

    The first WP7 Nokia will be nothing special, it'll work on the old SoC.

    They just want to get a WP7 phone out to say, "Here, we've got WP7 phone".

    2012 is interesting though, that's when "Nokia W8" is rumoured, and that's supposed to be a powerful dual core phone with an N8 camera module.

    WP7 though... I don't know, Mango update is promising however there are tons of things to be added even after the Mango update. BTW Nokia Maps won't be ported with Mango, that comes after.

    All in all I'd say Nokia is out of serious highend competition till around H2 2012, 2013.

    I'm not so sure about that but I'm looking forward to seeing it when it does come out. I don't think they'll want to bring a mediocre phone out, their first WP7 is going to be big news. We'll just have to wait and see... :)

    That article only confirms that they'll use Qualcomm nothing more. Nokia can't afford to rush out the first windows phone. If they don't deliver with that all important first phone they'll be finished in investors eyes.

    I'm looking forward to seeing how good the camera is on the WP7 as Nokia have said the quality of the camera will be one of the differentiating features of their Windows Phone 7 handsets.

    Here's a little video of Nokia and Carl Zeiss talks about why their cameras are great. This was all shot using a Nokia N8. The difference between the iPhone camera and the Nokia camera is huge! :eek:

    Was also a loyal Nokia customer... 5110, 6150, 6310, 6230, 6233, 6021, E51. Bought an unsubsidised E55 in April 2010, will never buy a Nokia again, what a heap of sh1te! Now on HTC Android, no going back.

    Nokia have probably lost millions of customers like me, either by selling them the dead-end that is Symbian or by leaving them hanging and waiting for Windows phones because Nokia were too proud to embrace Android.

    Before anyone tries to tell me that Nokia were right not to embrace Android, just go look at how the HTC share price has performed over the past two years compared to Nokia.

    Trouble is that loyalty is pretty fleeting and most of the people that Nokia think are going to buy their Windows phones have already moved on to iPhone or Android so when Nokia finally do launch Windows phones there will be one big collective yawn followed by the total collapse of the Nokia share price and they will be swallowed up by Microsoft.

    "Dave Trevaskus, Senior Training Consultant for Nokia has giving a presentation at the 20:20 Mobile event where he showed carriers Nokia’s Q3 and Q4 roadmap, which is expected to include at least one but likely 2 Windows Phone 7 handsets.

    While he did not actually have his hands on a WP7 handset, he did tweet, based on the pictures, that it would “blow your socks off!!”.

    NOKIA CONNECTIONS TOMORROW
    http://bit.ly/imn4AZ

    devices

    LIST OF POSSIBLE DEVICES

    So tomorrow is Nokia Connection and rumours are heating up on all thing mobile and what devices we can expect.
    Here is a list of devices we may see:
    * N950 (Developer exclusive MeeGo device, long-rumoured HWKB device)
    * N9 (Previously known as the N9-01, the end-user device without a HWKB, but rumoured to be the hottest piece of tech this year)
    * E7-03 (Leaked on a Nokia survey page, not much is known, it may be the device with a 1GHz CPU and 512Mb RAM etc.)
    * T7-00 (The N8-00 with a 8Mp Camera meant for the Asian markets)
    * 702T (Asian E6-00 variant with slightly different looks)
    * 602T (Suspected to be an Asian C7 variant)
    * 601T (Suspected to be an Asian C6-01 variant)
    * N8-01 (N8-00 successor, suspected to be ‘Real Steel’ phone, may be delayed until October for Nokia World)
    * C2-02 (Rumoured to be a Touch n Type slider)
    * C2-03 (No info)
    * C2-05 (No info)
    * C2-06 (Rumoured to be a Touch n Type slider)
    * C2-07 (No info)
    * C2-08 (No info)
    * C2-09 (No info)
    * C3-03 (No info, 3G + Wifi, maybe a C3-00 successor)
    * X2-02 (No info)
    * X2-03 (No info)
    * X2-05 (No info)
    * W7-00 (First Windows Phone 7 device from Nokia, may be too early, but a sneak peek isn’t unlikely, may be a QWERTY slider)
    * W8-00 (Second Windows Phone 7 device from Nokia, may be too early, but a sneak peek isn’t unlikely, may be a camera phone)
    * Z500 (Long rumoured Tablet, may have been canned)
    * S (Nokia House image showed it to be even more superior that the N9, may have been canned, might be the ‘market disrupting device’)
    Along with the huge expectations that everyone is having on tomorrow and Nokia, if they make a mistake or delay anything, they’ll most likely lose all faith supporters have had in them. Tomorrow will be a great day, it will go down history as the day Nokia got back on it’s own two feet, BUT only if they play their cards right. It’ll be like a coin flip, 50-50 chance. The power is in their hands and with great power comes great responsibility…

    Last week I was thinking they may show the phone at the event but they have gone into ultra secretive mode ala Apple. They want to creat the same hype as Apple do coming up to the release of their WP7. Expect to see lots of nokia teaser adverts coming up to the release date.

    If Nokia think they are in the same league as Apple they're in for a big surprise.

    One big yawn is all they'll get if they try a teaser campaign.

    What's the deal with Nokia not putting Xenon flashes on all phones? Does it cost too much or add weight or bulk or what?

    The N9 looks like a great phone. If only Nokia released a MeeGo phone two years ago, it could have been a real competitor to Android and the iPhone. But I'd seriously consider getting the N9, seeing as you can run Android Apps on it.

    TBH the stand of camera on phones seems to be going backwards. My old Sony, W810i, must be 4yrs old. Its a 2mp, but has autofocus and a flash. The K800i had a Zenon. These days we're getting bad sensors, no autofocus, often no flash even on very expensive phones. Many phones have dire SQ for music, and woeful radio reception. But in fairness to Nokia, they have decent SQ, decent camera on some models, and OVI Maps is great for offline.

    I think the N9 looks great. Its pity the OVI store is so bad. That alone would drive me away from Nokia.

    you should look into the N9 a bit more if your just thinking about OVI store,

    If you had an N900 you'd be used to using different sources for games/apps and being able to run scripts. not restricted to just the ovi store. The N9 is the same but from what i've seen of the application manager and add new ones it's pretty damn good. given that you will be able to get meego repo access too :)

    the camera in the n9 is amazing, up there with the n8, i think there was an article about it on www.mynokiablog.com not sure though but nokia conversations has one. this is what IOS should be like. i want a device that the out of box experience is not flat and can be customised without jailbreaking, btw to jailbreak your n9, just goto settings and put developer mode on. when ur finished applying things, put it back off. simple.

    If you're interested enough in a device to link to it on here, I'd expect you to actually try and get a discussion going, rather than just copy & pasting some PR notice or linking to expansys etc. As it stands your contribution to all things Nokia is barely above that of an advertising bot.
