While it sounds ridiculous, I've heard that you can wash them with a pressure washer.

Here is a hit from google along those lines...

I often thought that. A neibhbour of mine has a 2010 1.6 TDI Octy and its shagged aswell. I would certainly try it before forking out that cash. If you soaked it in Diesel overnight could work aswell..

I have a mate the had to change his a while back its a common problem on these cars. He got a reconditioned one from a peugeot dealer for around 300 i think but he had to give his old one back in.
BTW the mate in question is a mechanic and told me the problem is due to people not changing the fluid in the particle filter on a regular basis (although I stand to be corrected on that)

It can be done alright but the cost is in the labour, fluid replacement and reset.
Row is the best man for the info on this.

They can be washed but need to be dried out very well before refitting..:)
Some people soak them over night in tar remover and then powerwash.

Alot of the time particle filter faults/messages come up due to one or more
sensors failing and the dpf cannot carry out a regeneration correctly.

Here are a few previous threads on this subject..:)

To get to the bottom of this you need a diagnostic check to see if all the dpf sensors..glowplugs etc are working correctly.

Looking through the service manual for my 406 (fortunately my car in particular doesn't have one), I think the fluid change interval was every 50,000 miles or so. A lot of 406 owners seem to just remove them altogether after they start giving trouble, the stricter smoke testing in the NCT only applies to cars registered after 1st July 2008.

@Row: AFAIK glow plugs only really do any work in a Peugeot HDi engine in very cold conditions, e.g. last December.

Yes the 406 hdi's need temps below zero (around -4 or -5 i think) to bring on the glowplugs but on the dv6 engines (1.6hdi's) the glow plugs are engerised during a dpf regen to put a load on the engine and to help bring up the temp within the dpf.
There also used after startup when the engine is cold to reduce smoke and poor running.....O the joys of modern motoring... ...:)

Ah, didn't know the 1.6s were that much different, thanks.
