    Good old PL dominated list.

Your saying Rooney is declining, he went 9months without scoring for Utd from open play last year, and he's banging them in now. How is that declining?

Disagree with every name on the declining list.

Rooneys goal to game ratio is his second best in like 8 years

Lucas has improved beyond recognition. Joe Cole now plays like Cheryl Cole

I'll forgive you for not including Phillip Wollscheid on your list of improving players. He just about blows every player on your Improving list out of the water.

Generally if somebody has been playing poorly, and then they start playing very well, its known as improving rather then declining

Lampard doesn't seem the same player he used to be recently. Whether it's a dip in form or the beginning of the end remains to be seen.

Sounds good to me. Damn Germany and their international brilliance.

    Oh and #1. Edinson Cavani?

So take this season as an example, how do his performances from the second half of the season compare with those from the first half? Have they improved or declined?

I think Essien has had an awful season. Thought at the start of last season, he was going to become the most dominant centre mid in the world, then injury hit and he's looked a shadow of that player this year.

Ehhh every player goes through a thing called 'a dip in form' maybe you should realize that before making your stupid list?

Cheryl has matured considerably better than Lucas in fairness. Much considerabler.

    In no particular order:

    Improving:

    Pastore
    Wilshere
    Lukaku
    De Gea
    Hazard
    Neymar
    David Luiz
    Dzagoev
    Marcelo

    Declining:

    Drogba
    Gattuso
    Gerrard
    Ballack
    Pirlo
    Henry
    Beckham
    Zambrotta

That's all that I can think of off the top of my head. I've probably forgotten loads and included some that many will disagree with too.

    So in summary;

Good players in their early twenties will tend to improve.

Good players hitting 35 will struggle to reach the standards they once set.

    Hardly a ground-breaking revelation.

He was the best player on the pitch against Spurs in the second leg and by quite some distance... In the Milan derby he was also fantastic. He has been moved into that Andrea Pirlo role since Pirlo got injured and has been pivotal for Milan ever since.

Yes, he was good at the world cup but that was the 1st I (Am sure this is the same for many, many others) had seen of him. I hardly followed the mexican league while he was there, so dunno what he was like

Rooney declining? Tell Chelsea and West Ham that!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,883 ✭✭✭smokedeels

That list is essentially "names of players who've had a bad season" and "names of players who've had a good season", it seemed pretty pointless imo.

Funny, If you look at Rooney's stats (currently 13 goals and 13 assists in 31 games) at the end of this season, by most peoples standards he will have had a good one. I think he warrants his own list of "players who've set the benchmark too high the previous year"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

    9. Malouda (french irrellavent ..one good season

Just to pick one hole in your argument of many, this is rubbish IMO.

Malouda this year had 10 goals and three assists. The previous year he had 12 goals and eight assists. In 2008/09 he had six goals and five assists (his first 'full' year with Chelsea). This year isn't done, he'll get more than 12. His statistics aren't mindblowing but they're not declining. All this while playing in a fairly loaded Chelsea squad.

Also, what's nationality got to do with it? Everyone that has been discussed has been graded on their club efforts.

    1. Torres = bad season but maybe, still too early to say he is declining
    2. Evra = has went through a bad patch but ridiculous
    3. Drogba = far too early to say that, you wouldn't have said that in November
    4. Gerrard = Has had an injury prone year but maybe.
    5. Lampard = Again injury prone season but far too early to say he is declining
    6. Defoe = Doesn't suit Spurs at the minute, they want a big man up top and has been injured too.
    7. Rooney = LMFAO @ him even being on this list
    8. Agbonlahor = New manager at the club, again too early to say
    9. Malouda = Again like Drogba you wouldn't have said this in November
10.Keane = Looks to be one of two on this list that is probably right.

How about the ever declining Heurelho da Silva Gomes of Spurs?
I think he has his own appreciation thread going on somewhere.

I will tentatively stick my head up for a quick moment and say Petr Cech. This season, he has been back to the form of his life (as in, the form he was in before he suffered his head injury). I always ranked him as one of the best goalkeepers going, but he was definitely shaken up by the experience and was not as fearless or as gung-ho as he once was. For some of last season and all of this season, he has been back to his best, although he never truly declined/went-off-the-boil that much. Chelsea's Player of the Season, IMO.

Also for improving player, you'd have to say Javier 'Chicarito' Hernandez. Every time he sets foot on the pitch for United, he scores! An absolute cracking buy by United and one of the best players they've had all season.

no hernandez in the improving list shocking.

well in fairness, he landed in england, and has been consistently scoring goals since he got there, so i don't see where the improvement has been. Hes been consistently good, not ok, and getting better.

young and good is not the same as improving,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

Hernandez, at Guadalajara he scored 26 goals in four years.

At United in one year he has 17 in all. If he kept up the same pace (admittedly difficult) he'd have 34 goals in 44 appearences. He also hasn't been starting every game and is trying to score with Berbatov netting 20+ and Rooney hitting stride. Nani has chipped in too. So Hernandez is playing in a busy goalscoring section.

    He's improving consistently.
