This came up in conversation the other day with a few of us in the gym, why's one better then the other, and what we prefared to do.

So, RDL's (Romanian Deadlift Lift/Stiff Legged Deadlift) VS. Good Mornings

RDL and Stiff legged deads are different exercises.

That aside, I have no idea. I have done both.
I find I can carry more weight while maintaining an arch in the RDL than I can in a Good Morning.

I deduce that GMs stress my lumbar erectors more.
However the reason I do the GM's is, cos I'm told to.

For who? and for what goal? Same movement, but they are different exercises?

If I was doing either, I'd stick to Romania DL's. Good mornings just seem like an easy way of injuring your back

    I dont have a squat rack so the most I ever gm'd was 60kg.The most I rdl'd was 110kgx5.

I know their both meant to work low back, hams and glutes but I feel the rdl's more in the hams and glutes an the gm's in the errectors, low back. Not that I do either very much.

Im a good-morning man myself, i find the RDL's hits my lowerback more then GM's. And I get much worse DOMS from GM's over RDL's.

I find the romanians work the whole posterior chain more-maybe its me but GMs I find hits the lower back in particular.
When you think where the bar is at the bottom of each movement, in the rdl its over your feet(at least it is when I do them) so its more of a compound movement than the GMs where the bars further out and tends to pull on your lower back(or again, maybe thats just me!)
