    hi steve
you need to have 2 years post qualified electrical experience
    you need to send/scan email,
a copy of your fetac cert
    a copy of your passport
a copy of an employers letter stating your experience for the 2 years after you qualified (reference)
and a copy of your cv
you'll find the email address on
    www.dsb.no
i'd send a hard copy in the mail also
it could take up to 6 months to recieve it
i applied mid jan last and nothing yet was told they are only processing last november now

    thanks for the reply,

should have no problems with all that

im just worried about the reference part as my old employer has gone out of business since i was let go 2 years ago. it was a large company

any idea what i should do?

    cheers

If you were still in contact with any of your foremen/senior electrician/anyone in the know who could take a phonecall(15 min interview) and vouch for your experience.(a friend) and put their no. on your reference. It may be a bit dishonest but what the heck you'll get work.
Make sure whoever it is gets a copy of your cv and your experience at that company so they can back it up

you can still work with out it as a aprentice rate till you get your clearance then get what your owed after that ,
it is not uncommon to be on the pay roll classed as an apprentice but earning near what you would be

I've sent off for DSB last week and just checked out website above.IT said that all documents have to be certified by the notary public.I wasn't told this before. Did anyone get a DSB without this and if not what are my chances of getting it.

I'll double check this evening exactly what I sent as not at home, but what I can recall that I sent is.... CV,copy of passport, copy of fetac cert,2 references, letter from previous employer stating I have worked electrically for more than 2 years. I used my letter from my mortgage application for that.I scanned all these in and e mailed them to the Dsb. About 2 days later I received a confirmation e mail. Remember to include your address so they know where to send it back to as not everyone has their address on their CV....Hope this helps....

    Bump....
I got dsb cert start of last year, luckily enough I've been working in Ireland since then but its getting quiet now.
Does anyone know how long the dsb lasts for considering I haven't actually used it yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 tevion1

@cmf22 once you have it it lasts a lifetime, it a piece of paper that proves you've done an apprenticeship.

Have got the dsb cert 2 months now and havent got any work lined up, havent seen any jobs advertised either.

anybody know if it cost anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭Diggerdunne

No its free... Cost ya the price of postage to send the documents... I e mailed them and posted just to be sure they got them... Takes about 4-5 months....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 tevion1

Yes its free, thankfully. Make sure you send off everything they ask for off, because it it will slow the whole process if anything is left out. They also want the references to be very good not just a couple of lines.
