Healthy Kidneys

Hi all, not looking for any medical advice or anything, just some general (or specific) tips on diet and kidney health.

I don't eat very much; I'm not a big eater and never really have been. Usually just a few sandwiches, sometimes a bag of chips and some fruit here and there. I drink a fair bit of milk and tea/coffee. I'm a healthy weight for my height.

I'm on a medication which is quite harsh on the kidneys and I'm advised to take in a lot of water which I try to do. In spite of this, my consultant is having me go to the hospital everyday(travel costs and lost work time is a major inconvenience that I'd love to be able to avoid) for IV fluids because of poor kidney function. The medication is absolutely necessary in spite of its side effects.

Aside from drinking water, are there any specific foods/drinks or supplements that are good for maintaining healthy kidney function?

Ask your doctor. This is something you can't guess on your own, because anything you take may interact with your med.

The only thing that reacts negatively with it is grapefruit juice, everything else is fine including alcohol. I've been on the medication for three years now. Like I stated, I'm not after medical advice, just some tips on diet.

Then nice clean wholefoods is what i would go with.

Foods that ARE ingredients rather than foods that contain endless lists of ingredients.

I am thinking meats, fish (tinned is grand), veggies, fruits, oils like olive and coconut, dairy is you like it - milk, butter, cheese, cottage cheese, natural and greek yogurt, cream, nuts and seeds, nut butters, oats etc etc

Drink enough fluids so your urine is straw coloured, nit white white or dark yellow.

See I'd be tempted to say vegetarian cause I'd imagine meat is more work but I really wouldn't know. I think this is doctor/dietician territory to be honest.
