    Hi,

Just wondering could I pick yer brains with regards weight loss.

Im 23 year old male who was 17'2 stone on monday 28th and started a gluten free diet that day. On Monday 4th a week later I was 16'5. Obviously delighted with the loss yet knew it would not be sustainable and was probably just fluid loss.

Breakfast is : three or four different pieces of fruit
Lunch is : same as above
    dinner: boiled chicken and veg.

Now I realise this isnt perfect but a few lads on the club were on a similar diet for weight loss. Anyway I have been told from different sources that this diet is not a good option and that I will go into starvation mode and that weight loss will eventually stall. Any tips for me please?

I do realise that the diet isnt perfect and I will get given out to :D

I think the best thing would be to read the stickies but they can get very overwhelming so I found it easier to improve one thing at a time instead of jumping straight into a totally overhauled diet.

For example, fruit contains a lot of sugar, you could replace breakfast with a couple of eggs and a small bowl of porrige.

After a while, you could possibly replace two of the pieces of fruit for lunch with an oatcake with peanut butter and some natural yoghurt with seeds or berries.

Whilst probably not perfect, both are easy improvements over your current diet as they add protein and some good fats. When you drop weight, you'll want to add some healthy snacks between meals. Depending on what you like to eat, this could be cottage cheese, cashew nuts, etc.

Is there a reason that you have chosen a gluten free diet plan?

I don't know much about it personally, but have heard it can be an expensive diet to do healthy. The gluten free section of Dunnes definitely seems expensive to me.

Long term, healthy eating would be a better bet. Once you can cook/are willing to learn how to cook, it really is very simply to stay at a healthy weight.

Fad diets are never sustainable. When you try too hard you'll inevitably get browned off and go back to your old eating habits. Try keeping a count of the calories you eat and walk a bit more everyday. There are loads of online calculators you can use to determine how much you can eat. I'd say if you consumed 2000 calories and walked for half an hour a day you'd steadily lose 2-3lbs a week. That way you can still treat yourself now and again.:)

You diet is bad, straight out.

Very very little protein and good fats.

    Few recommendations:

Brekkie: Oats, eggs whatever way you like, greek yogurt/cottage cheese with some fruit and mixed nuts/seeds

Lunch: Any meat/fish with salad. You can buy bagged salad and tinned fish and throw in some cottage cheese/herbs/spices/olive oil to flavour.

Read the stickies at the top of the forum here and in health and fitness to work out your everyday calorie needs.
