Quick Pedometer question

    I downloaded on for my iphone the other day and tested it out today on the treadmill.

    I just walked/jogged for 20 minutes. The treadmill said i burnt 110 calories and the Pedometer said i burnt 320 cals ?

    What should i go by ? I'm tracking all my walks/runs/food and all that and need to know whats right.

    Well, realistically - neither of them give an accurate idea, because treadmills and iphone apps can't tell how hard you're actually working, and how much energy you're body is using up to do the exercise.

    In this case, I'd go with the treadmill figure. The pedometer would be utterly useless at calculating calories burned, as it couldn't possibly know how fast you were running, how far you ran (running strides are bigger than walking strides), and all sorts of other things.

    Besides, 320 calories is a bit unrealistic for 20 minutes exercise. yet, 110 seems low if you were running for most of it. I'd say it was probably somewhere between 110-200, but it varies hugely on how fit you are, what height you are, what age you are, what weight you are, etc. etc.

    I wasn't running for it all. I'm only getting back into running.. and I get shin splints alot.. So i tend to walk and jog for most of it. I normally run at about 12 on the tread mill for 3 minutes total but not all at once. I'd noramlly be around the 7 - 8 mark and resting on 4.5.

    I keep telling myself , little steps will lead to more:)

    The treadmill is most accurate of the two, if you had to put in your age and weight it more accurate.

    Machines are often slated for not being perfectly accurate, which is true. But the reality is what does it matter.
    If I run for 15 mins and I've worked as hard as I could (or aimed to if not max effort), what difference does it make if the display says 200 or 250 calories?

    The OP said that walked/jogged, so they didn't do 5km, therefore unrealistic :)
