I just saw this yesterday and I am really tempted.

    Asus-Eee-Pad-Transformer-specs-price-review.jpg

    The specs are pretty impressive.
    • 10.1-inch WSVGA IPS capacitive pressure-sensing multi touch display
    • NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile 1GHz processor
    • Ultra-tough Gorilla Glass
    • Front (1.2 MP) and rear (5 MP) cameras
    • Mini HDMI port
    • 1 GB RAM
    • 16 GB Storage
    • Android 3.0 Honeycomb

This advertisement shows the optional dock with a QWERTY keyboard that also adds up to 7 hours additional battery life.

Komplett have it up for €419 with availability in May, this beats the UK price of STG £379. However it is available in the UK from mid April.

Like I said. Really, really tempted :D

Very nice.Looks like the first Android pad to challenge the ipad. Hopefully more will come in and the prices will come down.i like the hdmi. I just bought a new laptop today but I would have held out if I'd seen this first

Excellent ad. I'm not even looking for a tablet but now I'm tempted haha. Good price too. Really tempting.

I like the bit where they admit that these electronic gadgets do not have everlasting battery life, but don't worry as they supply you with the solution for that. :D

That looks very cool. I'm still not sure whether i want a tablet...that slightly changes my mind though.

How about its brother the Slider? looks pretty cool too and is well priced by the sounds of things.

Nice kit! Would be even nicer if it hit the stores at the $400/€280 price!!!

Now that would be great - same price as a sim free smartphone but with twice the oomph !

Very interesting indeed! I might invest in one of these!

It all depends on what that keyboard is like to type on. I think i'd have to decide on what i want out of it i guess. Since in all honesty it probably wont replace a laptop/.

I had considered getting the Xoom when I go to the states next month but now I'm not too sure.
The build quality might be betting in the Motorola but the price and screen of the Asus are pretty awesome. I'd also pick up the keyboard but cant see myself using it all that much. It's just a "nice to have" add-on.

Still waiting on proper review for the Asus.

From my use of a tablet so far the not having a keyboard is good for the reduced size and weight, but I think that if you are ever intending to write out more than an SMS length section of text on a tablet then a keyboard is needed.

Having one that you can take on and off like on the Asus looks like a great way of getting the best of both options.

So I actually got to use an iPad today (I'm typing on it now actually!). And for use in college it's actually great! Its so light and having a great battery life is so handy. Id even go as far as to say that getting used to typing on a good virtual keyboard is really easy. Its probably not something i'd be able to use for extended periods but I have to say using it for short periods, it's actually grand.

Id probably sacrifice the slide out keyboard to save weight.

Ill be very interested to see if this comes out at the price they're claiming though. It'll probably be just like the first eee pc that was supposed toq come out at a 200 euro price, but it never really made it close to it

AFAIK the dock it comes with has a few more USB slots, and another microsd/sd slot for extra memory.

that and it has it's own battery, and when used together they offer nearly 16 hours of battery life or so.

If that's true, than I can definitely see myself getting one, it also runs WIN 7 for anyone interested :)

I put off buying my first tablet for ages. When I saw this on CES I knew I would want it.
I ordered one lastnight, theres some good videos of it on this guys channel http://www.youtube.com/user/techinstyle
I have tried out the first ipad a lot to see what its like but held out for a long time because I had a new Asus laptop to play with.
Glad I did now, this thing looks like its going to be sweet. Roll on April 18th:)

I've ordered one from Amazon. Hopefully it will arrive next week. Bit of a lottery it seems as Amazon has just changed their status to June.

Good news is that XDA have finally created a forum for the device:

Interested in getting one of these, or maybe one of the Acer ones, but I like the idea of the key board dock. Where is everyone ordering btw? Any recommendations for websites?

I ordered from amazon. They have pushed out the release date on the product page to June because all the early stock is sold out.
My order page still says dispatch 18th April so hopefully that means I got in on time. You can read more about it on the xda forum link mentioned above.
They have made an announcement on facebook about this aswell http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=191559657554107&set=a.186749591368447.43127.179161458793927&type=1&theater

Yikes, they've got some nerve. Did anyone who pre-ordered before the shipping date changed receive their order? Really want to get my hands on one - June 1 seems an age away!

Tbh, i think i'm going to hold off buying anything and see how the tablet market looks after a few months. There's too many similar tablets coming out, and the money that's being asked is still too high for something that will just be a gimmick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭floggg

We've only reviewed two Honeycomb tablets so far, this one included, but we find ourselves having to repeat a familiar refrain from our Android handset reviews: this is the best Honeycomb tablet yet. The Eee Pad Transformer has a manifestly superior screen to the Xoom, matches it on all key specs, and offers a keyboard dock that's extremely rich on potential added functionality. It's also a little bulkier and, thanks to its proprietary connector, less compatible than the Xoom, but with a price tag that's exactly £100 cheaper, the Transformer can't help but be the clear-cut better choice. Unfortunately, it's hampered by software troubles, some major and some merely niggling, that prevent it from challenging the Apple hegemony at the top of the heap, but for those on a limited budget and a pressing need for a tablet, the Eee Pad is a very compelling option.
I didn't think the review was all that positive to be honest, though it seems the gripes are as much with honeycomb than with the asus tablet itself

Looking at Amazon I get the distinct impression that what your ordered was the windows 7 verson, not the Android one....

That being said if you slapped an Apple logo on the back of it Engadget would rate it 11 out of 10.

I am over in the UK in a couple of weeks and am really tempted to try and pick one up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,157 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

And what that Engadget review failed to mention was that the software was pre-release software that had glitches, i'd hope that most of them would be resolved by the time of release.

These guys deliver to Ireland. New to me but they look ok. £25 delivery to Ireland and you need to pay by bank transfer.

380 + 25 Sterling is 455 Euro. Not a massive difference to 470 in PCW. If anything goes wrong I can at least can walk back into the shop.

That said it can be had for 400 Dollars in the US + tax. That's 290 Euro if you include the typical 8% tax.

Yeah! Screw that! Not a chance in hell.

I'm really starting to question whether or not I want this, or a Galaxy S 2 at this stage. I'm sure to use the phone a lot more...and it's soo pretty!

I still have my preorder with Amazon but the way they switched my dispatch date from the 18th of April to the 30th of May less than a week before hand leaves me a bit iffy about their dates.

Pcw are not inflating their prices too much over the Uk but I'm much more interesting in having my tablet than saving a few quid. They seem to be giving Uk customers first chance at their supply so it is hard to be sure when Irish customers will get a chance.

The US supply is a little constrained so I'm not sure how easy it will be to get one.Still the price difference does make it very tempting even if you get caught for duty and what not.

Hi, I have a relation heading to the States for the month of June. Was wondering if the was any issue with ordering it myself, shipping it to my relations house and it being brought home...
Cable can be replaced, but is there anything else?

Anyone else get an email from Amazon today saying the dispatch date will now be 6th May?

Amazon page is also showing as having stock, though only 10 are left! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-EeePad-Transformer-Tablet-Android/dp/B004TB0EMK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=computers&qid=1304516298&sr=8-2

The version with the keyboard still says 1st of June as does my order. I wouldn't have ordered the keyboard except for the fact the estimated delivery date for with or without was the same when I placed my order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,908 ✭✭✭Cazale

Happy days. I have cancelled my order for the keyboard version and have ordered the tablet only which will be dispatched tomorrow. I will see if I need to order a keyboard then for it or if I can live without it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 756 ✭✭✭smackyB

Just cancelled my Amazon order and bought one from PC World as they now have some in stock. Also worth checking Carphone Warehouse if PC World don't have stock. Both pricing it at at very competitive €429.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,908 ✭✭✭Cazale

Amazon saying now it wont have stock till May 20th. Thank god I got my order in and it will dispatch tomorrow!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 818 ✭✭✭Cormic

So I got my hands on one in PCWorld in Carrickmines today and have to say I was disappointed.

It is a lot bigger then the Xoom and the IPad2. The Xoom is about the same dimensions as the IPad2 but about twice as thick. The transformer needs to be quite long to support the keyboard dock. It also felt quite heavy in my hands.

I am going to wait until the next generation of android tablet to come out before I make my purchase.

ok strange question - can anyone who has bought one of these please go to the moshi monsters site ( http://www.moshimonsters.com/) and see if you get the "you need flash for this site to work" message! I tried it on the one on display in PC world and it didn't work but that may be because it didn't have flash installed.

I am thinking of getting one for the house but the kids need it for this moshi monsters site so it needs to work.
