Well I'm sick of you guys having all the fun reporting weather conditions around the country accurately.. up to now all I’ve ever contributed was ‘fierce windy’ or ‘very wet’.. :) I don’t have a heap of cash to splash but was thinking of one of these:

    or

Just waiting for the seller to clarify postage costs... what do you think? Be blunt. I plan to stream the app/window to the web to share using something like ScreenStream etc. : http://www.nchsoftware.com/screen/index.html

Its like anything really you get what you pay for. Those stations are pretty much bog standard, wont be that accurate and will probably cause you a lot of frustration. There is another weather station thread you can check out where the subject is discussed in more detail.

    Hey CarMuppet

I have the same weather station and find it great. I check its off the local NRA stations and it appears to be accurate. I use Cumulus software which is great. Good luck.

I've decided to stretch the budget a little and now trying to decide between the following two units:

    OR

I'd consider these a starter and learner permit unit.

The second option is getting better. :)

Thanks for the reply.. I understand these are not 'professional' or serious hobbist units.

I've read some of the other weather station threads and seen comments about rain sensors giving problems, and air temperture sensors not being accraute due to direct sunlight heating. Or even just sensors simply failing... users then had to spend more to replace etc.

I'm looking at STG £150 for the WS2357 system. Is it worth to spend another £50 for something 'more reliable' or a different brand? or do I need to make a big jump of £100 to >£150 more to move into the next level I reliabilty/accuracy?

I know you get what you pay for etc.. but I'm trying to figure out is £150 plenty for someone like me who is at the basic basic basic thick amature level :) Or will I just end up spending more in the long run replacing cheap/nasty sensors. or should I just bite the bullet and buy a quality system I can knock a few years out of... (I understand all electornic equipment has failure rates etc).

This unit will be placed in an unobscured elevated site, exposed from E right around to WNW only a few km from the SW coastline... so the Southwesterlies will have direct access to the sensors.

If you guys think the cheaper systems are rubbish then I'd like to wait, save more cash and then purchase to do it right.

    Thanks again for your help,
    Michael

    http://www.vantagevue.com/

This is the one that's recommended [or better again!], but it's about €500

One link to the UK. http://www.weatherstations.co.uk/vue_main.htm

Thanks for the replies lads... I'll hold off and save so for a few weeks..... The 'Davis' one looks the job alright.

So I've gone from looking for something around the euro100 mark to 5 times that...... I bet when I have the cash saved something will break in one of the cars!! :)

    Thanks again,
    Michael

I was in the same position last year before i bought my Vantage Vue. Only intended paying around 200 but saw the Vantage Vue and read all the good things about it so figured get the best, will be worth it in the long run. You wont regret waiting as its a brilliant station.
