I'm having a really nice day, and plan to go out for a few pints that night, so I need a visit to the barbers.

It's almost 6pm and Blanchardstown carpark is half empty, and I park in a remote spot with not a car next to me in either direction for about 7 spaces. This is the way I like it, because you never know who is parking beside you, and whether or not they give a crap about dinging your car or not.

So, I'm coming out of the barbers, walking across the carpark, and notice a blue construction company transit parked next to my car. My frst though was why the hell did he park beside me, with all the space in the carpark to put his transit?

    I think nothing of it.

Next morning while putting the kids in the car... ARE YOU F***ING ****TING ME? THAT F***ING C***

That f***ing tosser scraped my car. The whole damn carpark to put his POS transit, and he couldn't even open his door without damaging my car. Then I remember back to his transit, and that smug git sitting in the passenger side eating his POS burger, know full well he marked my car, and just sitting there as imbred and arrogant as he is.

    Well F*** YOU

You know I don't have a lot of money, and my car is my pride and joy, paid for in full by my hard work. It's not a Veyron or a 2011 Audi, but it's my 2004 Audi. have some damn respect for other peoples property, FFS.

That is so infuriating. Any point looking for cctv?

Some would say it's not much, but I would disagree. I will post a picture in a bit.

I know EXACTLY how you feel mate. Fcuking horrible. My 06' Candy White GTI baby was hit TWICE over the course of October last year. Both occasions while I was in the office, it parked outside. I had gotten quotes of between €500-600 and had put it off until last week. Just as I pencil in a weekend to go and get it sorted, I get some engine trouble that is now setting me back over €1k.

The joys of motoring eh! Heartbreaking stuff at times. :(

I was after parking my car on Saturday night at about 10.30pm, these 5 guys (adults, early 20s) were strolling along the pavement, one of them (presume he didn't know there was someone in the car) reached across it and started doing f knows what to the roof. I tapped on the window with my key to get his attention, he didn't hear so I opened the door and pushed him away with it, got out and asked him what the f was he up to. "Oh sorry man, I was only drawing on it", in fairness to him he was only drawing on the moisture on it. He then says he was "being a dick" and wanted to shake hands and all that crap. T0sser. No respect for folks property these days.

I feel your pain. Its happened to my last 3 cars. All mint body work, until some scumbag scraped or dented it in a car park. D.15 is especially bad for it. No matter how far away you park, even if its in the middle of nowhere. Some fool always parks beside you.

If it makes you feel better I totally showed a jagged metal trolly bay barrier who was boss with the side of my Audi in B&Q.. :o
That um.. removed a lot more paint than a car door ding should be able to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,002 ✭✭✭MargeS

I know exactly how you feel. I do the same thing, park off on my own somewhere. The number of times I've come back to my car and found someone parked right beside me, it beggers belief!!!
But I've had a CoCo transit do the same thing to me, and I have no idea how the f*cker got out of it without taking my door off.
    So infuriating!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,613 ✭✭✭Lord Nikon

I remember the transit that did park there, and the logo on the side. If I knew the company, you would be sure I would ring them and complain about it. Oh hell yeah I would.

I think the reason people park beside you when you park in the middle of nowhere is that they need a reference to make sure they are actually in the spot so they use your car.

fookin tools I think you call them.

If I come back to my car and someone has parked like that in an empty car park I'll generally have a good look at the car including walking around the passenger side if necessary. Have done this with someone sitting in the other car staring at me as if i've four heads. Don't care if they think I'm a nut, maybe they'll think twice about parking like that next time.

In the case of vans - unfortunately a fair number of van drivers and passengers are pig ignorant inbred w*nkers alright. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the burger scoffing knuckle dragger damaged your "flash git Audi" on purpose

I was sitting in my car in a car park a couple of years ago waiting for some one.

There was a big bang and i turn to my left so tool has just opened his car door into mine.

I jump out of the car and say what the ****!

He replies sure its only a punto. How I didnt thump him I dont know but there was a few choice words.

Sickening, what is it about an empty car park that makes people park right up next to you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭gyppo

Parked in Aldi carpark in athlone early one morning.
Only 2 cars in the entire carpark, mine plus another 2 spaces away, with one space between them.
Missus goes in to do her shopping, while I wait in the car (sorry, Im not one of these new men). Anyhow, a few minutes later, a woman with a Seat Alhambra crammed to the roof with kids, drives in and proceeds to park between the two cars.

Sure enough, 3 minutes later - Whack!, back door of her car into the back door of mine, and breaks the clearcoat on my car.
I went out to her, asked her did she realise she's just after whacking her door onto my car, and I was met with an incredulous look. I then showed her the mark, and displayed that the end lip of her door matched up with the fresh mark on my car. She then got thick with me, and ranted about how she has to remove kids from child seats, etc..
I asked her why she couldnt have parked in the remaining 100 or so empty spots, where she could have had a bit of comfort in unbuckling her ferry of kids.
Im afraid I didnt get through to her - I only hope the kids she was carrying around got the intelligence gene she missed out on.

I noticed this behaviour too, I always park my Integra away from the other cars in a car park, right down the back where no-one is or has any business there and yet nearly all the time when I come back there is a car parked longside mine, when half the car park around me is empty.

This very point was raised once upon a time on another forum im on and someone actually found a link to a research paper which indicated that this is actually a Psycological behaviour that people do subconsiously. (The parking longside another car in the middle of nowhere)

Happens to everyone and its really annoying. Parked in local spar one day away from other cars and low and behold, as soon as I am parked someone pulls in beside me - leading me to go what the fyck is with people and the OH gets angry with me for complaining about some who parks beside me. She is one of the people that dont give a toss about cars no matter how many times I tell her she should. Anytime I mention the car or washing it or getting a part for it - the eyes roll

Everysingle car I owned in Ireland was hit in carpark atleast once.

Pug 406, found a huge dent on front wing only when came back home... Was mad as dog....

This winter: misses parked up in usual spot at work. After she finished work, she found a huge dent on the front Wing...

Clk200 - I just stoped counting all paint scratches and dents on doors... Newer even bothered to sort them out, as what's the point? Next day some lialia will make sure to put all dents bak on it.

Skyline - tfu tfu tfu, nothing yet...

I was talking on the phone in main street once. One of the cars was pulling back and just hit the car behind! I started banging on the window so driver would stop, instead he just changed to first gear and drove off... Didn't checked the reg unfortunately....

Funny that - always wondered why there is always a car parked beside me when I come back to the car - no matter how much free space there is in the carpark. They are usually snuggled right up beside the car aswell - rather than leaving a decent gap.

Got a smack on the other car, parked outside the house - what can only be described as a gouge across 2 panels

When there's so much free space like that, take up 2 spaces.
You may appear in the 'obnoxious parking' thread but aleast there wont be any marks on your car.

Might have read the same but it was people aim for what they see.
If they see 100 empty spaces and your car sitting there on it's own, they'll aim to park by you

Another study was the many fatal accidents on a highway on a desert in the USA.
People who left the highway managed to hit the telephone poles and be killed.
Over 20ft of space on either side and they still managed to hit the poles, in fact it's far easier to miss the pole then hit.
People just steer and aim at a target

Luckily only had a few taps on my cars bodywork, but it's infuriating as hell when someone does do something big. My sister and her other half just bought their first car about two weeks ago. One week into having it, someone reverses into the front of it in their apartments car park and pops out the front grille.

Instead of doing the decent thing, you know, leave a note or what not the person who hit them decided to throw the grille in the bushes and leg it. Unfortunately no CCTV around to see who did it.

    Too many assholes out there.

    I know how it feels,

I had someone do exactly the same thing.
Parked outside my business and some dopy Kunt (on a big empty forecourt) managed to hit my car (the only car on the forecourt) she never even came in to say she hit me just ****ed off before I could get her details.

These assholes don't give a **** about stuff other then there own.

I've had it done to me a few times. I now insist on parallel parking. I will drive around and around until I find a spot I'm happy with. Its a lot easier than spending a wad everytime someone dents and scratches your car.

Few years ago i was parked in the carpark of the place i worked at the time. I parked at about 8 in the morning & came back to the car about 5 in the afternoon. My nice shiney black legacy b4 that i'd had for a few days had a big cresent shaped ding in the driver side front door. I quite literally wanted to hurt someone or something. And wouldn't ya know it, cctv wasn't working in the lower car park...which annoyed me even more.

There was no car parked near my car so whatever jealous angry dickhead who did it was long gone.
I parked the car neatly in the morning to avoid any acts of jealousy but obviously some miserable dunce must have been having a bad day & took his/her frustrations out on my paintwork.

There are some sad jealous fcukers out there. Imagine damaging a defenceless car? WEIRD.

Hmm ,dunno if target fixation applies to choosing car parking space, but might explain some peoples driving alright.
You'd think usual bus seat rules or urinal rules would also apply to parking? IE don't glue yourself up next to a randomer unless you have to? People don't do it anywhere else, why do it in a car park?

Drawing on frozen snow/ice is another one. Aslo kids who sit on the bonnets are cars as they hang around the shop. Belts and studs, on jeans scratch the bonnet to bits.

The solution is to always park next to a nice new car - between two new ones if possible. They are very careful owners.

Safer if you leave plenty of space between yourself and other cars. I'd reckon thats a rarer occurence than parking dings from my experience.

I get loads of extra exercise from parking miles from shopping centre doors.

I have had it out with one person when i explain iv just spent 800 euro on a paint touch up less than six months ago and are they going to pay if there's any damage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,613 ✭✭✭Lord Nikon

Yeah maybe. But I would hardly be on the phone to the guy who marked my car. And I'm sure their boss would be impressed by damaging people's property while in companies van too.

It beats sitting on my hands letting the world walk all over you. Having a voice and using it, is much better than having one and saying nothing.

My father parked in ASDA in Enniskillen a few months ago while mum went in to do the shopping, few minutes later a group of foreigners arrived in the space beside him and *WHACK*. He got out and there was a nice dent on the passenger door so he asked them what they were going to do. He was met with 'We only arrive Ireland this morning' in very broken english, he said 'well you done well to get your own car, tax and insurance sorted so you'll muster up a few pound to fix the damage you caused and moved his car to block them in. After a while of sitting about they eventually put around £30 pound together and gave it to him, a lot less than it would cost to fix but he was happy to get anything.

I drive a nice a jeep that I treat like a child, it gets hand washed most weekends and polished every few months. Nothing more infuriating than finding new bumps and dents every few weeks that I know I haven't caused. If I caught somebody hitting my jeep with a door and not forking out €100 on the spot I would have no problem re-paying the compliment to one of their panels with my wheel brace.

I always park away from the front door of shops/work and usually reverse into a corner spot putting my passenger side against the kerb so I don't understand how these a**holes still manage it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,727 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

I always go find a corner spot with a kerb on one side...and reverse in so one side of the car is touch-close to the kerb, leaving half a meter on the passenger side for nobody to hit! :D

If not I take two spots :P

Not if you park diagonally across two spaces.

Notthing would surprise me. I parked in what I thought was an impossible space at work. But someone parked so close to me I couldn't get in and O couldn't understand how they got out either. I went and found the other drive, a girl. She had to climb in her window to get her car out. She didn't seem to think anything odd about that. See just didn't want to move the car once she'd parked it. Never even occurred to her she was blocking other cars by parking so close. I noticed afterwards she did it on a regular basis to other cars.

    Some people are just stupid.
