patterning a shotgun

    i'm sure this has been asked 100 times already, but whats the best way to pattern a shotgun, and what is the best way to have your spread for both game and clay shooting without having to change the gun setup before doing either i.e 50/50 60/40 etc

    steel plate painted white, 16 yards away with a dot to aim at and pull the trigger.. id say 60/40 would be perfect for trap and game!! i would recommend giving your gun to someone else to pattern it because if you do it yourself you will always be thinking of where it shoots which will probaly lead to missing the target!

    cheers, i'll give it a go. i just got a beretta urika al391 on friday, and it has the shims that i can adjust it if i like. i just wanted to make sure it was perfect. i was shooting a few clays with it at home yesterday, and i hit 46 out of 50, but then i missed a few crows when i was out today and it got me wondering if it was shooting high or if the cartridges were'nt patterning very well
