Knee Pads/Protective gear

Saw probably the nastiest airsoft-related injury I've seen today (not naming where or who, nothing to do with the site, freak accident tbh).

Guy gashed his leg below the knee right to left, wound opened up about 40mm, will probably require a couple dozen stitches. Really hit home the importance of kneepads and protective gear - I know a lot of sites only mandate eye pro, but think about the terrain you'll be on and use appropriate protective gear. Be careful out there, being evacced via ambulance from a site isn't fun.

Yeah, can happen, I've seen dislocated knees, broken bones, chest wounds... and its only toy guns...

PPE is vital for things like this, but people brush it off with 'ah it will be grand'

    Thanks for mentioning this Gerrout.

Yeah it was a bit grim alright,
not sure if its my place to say but
he was relased shortly after with 52 stitches with no other serious injuries or breakages. I've never really considered kneepads but i think what happened today kinda highlights how bad it can be.

Can anyone recommend a decent pair of knee pads?I have a pair of king arms but they slip and dig into the backs of my knees.I also have the internal built in pair but they only take soft pads and they're not the greatest for hard impacts.I seen a pair designed by a paintball company that were like a sports knee injury support but with a protective pad.Any used these? They look more comfortable.Heres a link. There designed to be wore under your pant-a-loons so dont worry.

Alta knee pads apparently are some of the best (according to RS shooters)

Heres a rather lengthy video if you need more info: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMCGsRgkALE

    (hope mods don't mind)

    They are.

Need to be ordered in from the States though which ends up running you the better part of 50 quid all told, more if you get hit by customs. Still, for a good and comfortable and reliable set of knee-pads, it's pretty much worth it, because otherwise you'll go through several sets of crappy ones that are annoying and will add up to cost at least the same.

There's a shop in Stockholm that sells them, for those Berget-bound, but they don't deliver here.

Was that Garderroben? or that large, Blackhawk-lined store?

+1 to alta kneepads, I got a set in garderoben and wore them for 4 days solid, even sleeping, with no bother. Velcro is the devil.

Does the top strap not slip down and on to the back of your knee from constant kneeing/standing?Id trust the nuttnfancy review as ........ as he maybe he does review quailty stuff.Which pair wouldbe the best? They have a few different types on there site?

Yeah I was dubious myself, but the material in the straps is top quality, and it's a lot stretchier since it's not velcro, so you can pull it good and tight and it doesn't budge, and doesn't take the legs off you.

Looking at a set of these myself

    http://uktactical.com/acatalog/BlackHawk_Neoprene_Knee_Pads.html

Any irish retailers or shops sell something similar, velcro can **** off, have a pair in the shed and they are the most annoying piece of kit ever.

Those are absolutely bollocks. Mad uncomfortable, slide sideways, leave big red marks on the backs of your knees, and fall apart. The straps are velcro, by the way.

I got mine from Toy Soldiers Airsoft in Belfast; they're not listed on the site at the moment but might be still available if you insist on masochism and wasting money.

I haven't skirmished with them yet. But the quality is great, definitely build to last. There is neoprene under the knee cap, so its pretty comfy. I don't really have a problem with the straps, there is no real reason to over tighten them. Definitely a major improvement to my previous knee pads. Which were far too tight when kneeling, and that's only if they managed to stay in place.

I have Mark 1 too they are pretty good i wasnt too happy with the stitching on them though as i had to restitich a few areas , the knee pads are good but positioned wrong on the knees you tend to kneel on the side of them , i heard the mark 2 are better and they got rid of allot of the pockets you didn't use , they are Expensive though

Hehe, don't forget the groin molle loops! But yeah I found knee pad system itself, as opposed to the kneepads themselves, to be pretty awkward. I just let them hang loose these days, almost seem to work out better that way. Think I'll wait for a bit more feedback before I go buy the newest version though, not a cent to my name at the moment.

No, hadn't a clue. Might have a look about now that ye mention it. I've heard great things about Helikon. That said, my only qualm with Helikon is the fact that they don't do any of their line in Rooivalk. :D

If they're good enough for Downhill/Dirt Jumping they're good enough for airsoft. I wear these myself on the big bike and you barely notice them and I've had a few rough crashes

Alta kneepads, I have had the same set for 6 years now. Absolutely fantastic. They do not dig in to the backs of your legs and you do not restrict movement. A+++.

Also, for those without a combat shirt/jacket with no built in elbow pads, get the alta elbow pads too. A+++

Leaning on my elbow hurts more than on my knee to be honest... depending on surface obviously :D

i have to say alot of lads who come up to oakridge use the aldi knee pads, they work well, i used a pair myself until i got combats with the built in hard knee pads, those aldi knee pads are 4 euro when they get them in

also elbow pads have saved me a few injuries when slipping in the valley

Just saw these "Alta type" ACM knee pads. At that price (€14) might be worth a look.

I got a set of king arms kne pads today from ehobby. They seem quite good, have the Alta style clips, comfy enough round the house. Will skirmish them and let folks know the verdict.

    Ah, apologies, didn't see that.

OK, I got a pair of these, and tried them out in the Barn today:

    http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/king-arms-warrior-knee-pads-od.html

They have the alta-style clip on them and look solid enough. After wearing the for a (sweaty) day, they slipped a wee bit, but in general I forgot I was wearing them. I was aware of them a little bit toward the end of the day, but i general they're miles ahead of velcro (never touching the stuff again).

They do the same elastic/plain strap comba as the Alta ones. I've yet to test the durability of the armour, but it feels solid enough.

Anyway, recommended. I didn't even have to do sideways pushups wearing them on me junk or anything.

    http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/military/index.asp

Bottom of page, alta knee pads and yes I know their in multicam but someone could get onto them about different colours if they wanted.

Cant for the life of me remember if I ordered from these lads before, but going by other sites in the UK shipping cant be too bad.

edit: link only goes to the main page, just search "alta" and there at the bottom.

NOT TRYING TO BE FUNNY(Or stupid:o) HERE,
but would any sorta pair do ye, like the kind you'd use for rollerblades. Probably cheaper than the ones I've seen in shops.
I'm gonna get a 4euro aldi pair and see how they do  cheap and(hopefully:o) effective :D:p
