Hired a road bike for a few days, while on hols in Feurteventura.
Worth every penny!

The Gantouw pass is a heritage site and open for MTB only a limited number of events per year, when it is a ~45 minutes of enforced portage. I crossed it 2 weeks ago and the grooves made by wagon wheels in the rock impressed me - and wondered how hard/tough it must had been to take an ox-wagon over it. Even more impressed tonight when I learned that it was used up to 1821, when 4500 wagons crossed it per year.

I live 4km from the start of Hautacam. It's the village on the left hand side of the photo.
