Irish language curriculum

I am a freelance journalist and I am writing a feature on whether the way in which the Irish language is taught in schools should be changed and if the curriculum is in need of an overhaul.

Should it be taught more like a foreign language than a native one? Should there be less prominence placed on old poems and writing letters and more on grammar and speaking the language in practical situations?

I believe the off-putting nature of the curriculum and the failure to present Irish as a living language has contributed to its negative image. This would explain the relative unpopularity of Irish while in school compared to later in adult life.

If anyone would like to contribute their opinions and ideas on the matter I would love to start a discussion here and read what teachers have to say on the matter.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
