I was going to ask if there was a national bike register that could be used to reunite owners with their bikes but a quick google showed BikeRegister.ie exists - I must register mine. Hope the guards are aware of the site too.

I’d be interested to hear who owned the container, to see who might be behind organised bike theft.

    ^^^^
The owner would have had no problem, pointing out a few unique features on that bike.

I think that is the owner with their reunited bike.

Had a bike stolen last October. Unlikely to one of the 116 but harm inquiring.

The Gardai also operate their own register, at least at some stations (Donnybrook). They allowed people to register their bikes with serial numbers, which were then logged on Pulse.

More than 18,000 bikes were stolen over three years - but just 11% were retrieved
Roisin Shortall is calling on Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan and the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to publish a new strategy for tackling bike theft. "A 10% retrieval rate for stolen bicycles is simply not good enough and we need a strategy for clamping down on high levels of bike theft particularly in urban areas. There have been some reports that higher-end stolen bicycles are being exported by criminal gangs, and if that is the case then we urgently need a strategy to stop this criminal activity."

    Hiyiz,

3 bikes stolen from a locked shed in the Kentstown Co. Meath area yesterday afternoon / last night. Nothing else taken from the shed, and no reports of other breakins locally, so I suspect they were using Strava data to look for bikes.

The Gardaí found my road bike. It was in that container in Newcastle. Should have it back Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Fair play to them. I didn't have the serial number, so emailed them in Pearse St with a description.

No sign of the other 2 - I reckon the MTB might have been dumped as it had a broken derailleur & no chain. I understand some of the bikes in the container had been robbed up to 6 months ago.

Updated: The nice garda rang me back to say they've found my mountain bike also. Delighted. Great work by the guards.

A friend found a Merida big nine mtb in Cabra last night.

It's green and black with not a lot of miles on it.

I might mail them as well, live in Bray so not far from Newcastle, thanks for the heads up

Owner has been found so removing FB page etc.

Someone has to recognise this surely, looks to be a s-works frame.

"found the bottom of Sandys hill this morning.. would like to get it back to its rightful owner"

I came across the post on the MTB Ireland FB page,

    Thanks.
I don't mind keeping it for myself but would be good to get it to whoever owns it. :)

He can't lay his hands on anything right now - he's quite flippant about the whole thing. He got it from an old housemate, fairly new bike he used it to get to the gym in the mornings.

A lesson for everyone there. Take a pic of your serial number and email it to yourself and be sure to put subject (canyon serial number, trek serial number etc) always easy to find after the fact.

I'd be reluctant to hand it over to someone without them knowing the serial number despite what they say. Turn it into the Gardai and let whomever make a claim to it.

I wish my housemate would give me an S-Works.

Without trying to seem like a vulture - what happens to bikes that are unclaimed? do they go to an auction or something after a particular period of time has passed?

and further to that - whats the story if someone had claimed off their insurance for a bike they had stolen?

The guy selling this is definitely a crack head, not a hope in hell he owns this.

    If it's yours pm me

    Hi guys,

My bike was stolen from my shed in the Dublin 10 area. I only discovered that it was stolen yesterday but I estimate that it was actually stolen no more than 8 days ago.

It’s a Cube Attain GTC Carbon White/Black, size 53 frame in mint condition. There are no marks, scratches etc. anywhere on the bike. It looks exactly like the images attached to this post. It has Shimano A530 pedals and Lezyne Zecto Drive lights fitted. There is no bottle cage or pump holder fitted to the bike.

I’m posting here in the hope that somebody from boards.ie might see my bike for sale somewhere, be it online or in person, and could message me about it.

I know it’s a long shot but if anybody could keep an eye out I would appreciate it!

    Thanks!

Might be noting. But there is a bike selling page on Facebook. and the same two lads and posting different bikes for sale most days. As I said it might be noting but something doesn’t add up. Is called “Dublin Cycling Club & Market. (Used bikes)

So, browsing adverts last night looking for a cheap Fixie I came across one and sent the link to my mate to ask his opinion, turns out it was his cousins bike that had been stolen.

Long and short of it is I'm now the owner of said fixie and some little scrote has no money tonight when he thought he was getting 140quid.

Met him in town, took the bike and said 'this is my bike, it was stolen now f##k off'

The original owner had already replaced it so didnt want it back, so I've given him a few quid.

Please do report the advert / seller on adverts.ie. All those platforms have a big responsibility for facilitating selling of stolen property.

I had a chat with one of the adverts staff, I gave him the heads up and he removed the ad and user after I got the bike

Thanks, fair play. Unfortunately, the seller will probably pop up again with a new ID, but at least you got to clear any reputation he had.

These sellers really should have higher ID requirements for sellers selling multiple bikes.
