Plenty of people here probably remember the original documentary "The Most Hated Family in America. They're showing a show where he visits them again on Sunday, April 3rd on bbc2 at 9pm. Should be interesting as they apparently hate him too now. :D

Who don't they hate? Oh, no, sorry, it is them saying god hates people. They wouldn't hate anybody

God i hate the man and i HATE the shows he produces, he's basically a joe duffy on tv, how he gains access to the places he films is beyond me (san quentin) He doesn't provide any insight, all he strides to do is antagonize the people he interviews to make shock telly, hate him.

On your own there. Think he is excellent. He draws people out of themselves to commit more than they would like with his low-key personality. Add to the fact that his dead-pan delivery and excellent use of language make fantastic fly-on-the-wall documentaries.

His a particular type of reserved Englishness contrasts starkly with the outgoing brashness of Americans and can work very well.

    Can't wait for this.

You can't be more wrong. He is probably one of the best fly on the wall documentary makers around. His whole demeanour is conflict averse, he lets people talk openly about their beliefs without them feeling scrutinised or judged and so he gets them to be more open and honest than they would with other interviewers. I don't know where you get the impression that he is in anyway antagonistic, he has interviewed some really messed up people and is always markedly reserved.

Meh, I know people who have an utter hatred for David Attenborough  Go figure.

I like Louis and his docs, he let's those he interviews get their points out so you can get a better understanding of them rather than some flimsy editing to provoke a reaction from you. Didn't get to finish his last one on the Zionists though, have to watch that again tonight.

It's the indoctrination of the children which is the most deplorable. Surely this is a child welfare issue?

Surely Lady Gaga could take a case against them for using her music from their protests??

Doubt they actually paid music right????

All they are is hate, someone should point them towards the new testament and that Jesus fellow. Apparently he's all about loving your neighbour and forgiveness.

I can't stand Louis but I can't turn off his programmes when I see one on. He is extremely annoying but he does leave everyone have their say which is good

Is it not kinda ironic that they are paroding songs of an bisexual musician (Lady GaGa) and Freddy Mercury to convey their message ? That may be their intention, but surely there is some irony there !

Plus, the 18 year old's bedroom had pictures of SpongeBob and Patrick on the wall !

I thought it was good but a bit short.

Didnt really say much that had not already been said.

And I actually felt a bit sorry for Fred Jr almost having his dogs head cut off.

Yeah that was sad,its so stupid. The family are nuts but what did the dog ever do to anyone :(

As crazy as the family are they aren't on the level of the FLDS (yet!)

One of my favourite lines of all time was from Louis...

He was doing a doco on S&M and bondage, guys with nipple piercings, gimp masks etc and he says:

"Here we are walking down the street like the A-Team except with 4 Murdocks"
    :D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,812 ✭✭✭✭sbsquarepants

Those whacky flds kids and their crazy ways!
God hates fags (allegedly) but he seems to have a soft spot for biggots.. i think god needs to choose his friends a bit more wisely.
As for louis - come on, he's probably the best out there at what he does, i personally think his shows are rarely short of brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,745 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Even if you've decided to dedicate your life to Gods work, it seems somewhat bizarre to concentrate so much on 'the fags' and fornicators. Like what about the drug importers, child traffickers, murderers, thieves etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,716 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

What I don't get is how the families in the church seem to hold down jobs and actually have a good standard of living.
They have beliefs that seem more extreme than the more reclusive Christian cults you hear about in America.

At least the trafficing of cigarettes would be covered in their slogans.;)

It's very interesting because Fred Phelps was a leading civil rights lawyer in Kansas in the 1960's.

I wouldn't be surprised if they more or less live off the media getting paid for interviews.

Considering gun crime is riff in the states, how come none of these people have been shot or killed??

Also didnt they mention they burnt the Koran at one stage??

How come the fundamentalists didnt launch an attack on them over this???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

The daughter that left would get it :D

I love Louis' documentaries, the one with the Nazi's and in South Africa were eye-openers.

Anyone else loved their Lady Gaga remix ? :pac:
What I found amusing as well was when the two girls came out, Louis seemed to know right away what they were up to in the room, being all sweaty and that, and when he started to ask questions the mom jumped in to bail them out :D

I was thinking the exact same thing. Not to condone violence on them but if they started picketing at soldiers funerals over here they wouldn't last long.

Also surprised at the Koran burning thing. That's like a waving a red flag in front of a bull.

I wonder how long it will take for them to collapse in on themselves.
The staunch members seem to be the older ones and there is a lot of them leaving the church once they reach a certain age.

I wonder if the girls that have left have changed their views radically, like would they still be homophobic and whatnot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,432 ✭✭✭df1985

the one that left seemed to go in the complete other direction, looked like a hooker almost......may be making up for lost time!!

Phelps also sued then-President Ronald Reagan over Reagan's appointment of a U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, alleging this violated separation of church and state.

Some very interesting stuff on that wiki. What a strange, strange man. Defending black people and separation of church and state while condemning fags and soldiers to hell. Does not compute.

Must be his hatred of Catholics that motivated him there.

    Democratic Party

Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15 percent of the vote in 1998.[32] In the 1992 Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate, Phelps received 31 percent of the vote.[33] Phelps ran for mayor of Topeka in 1993[34][unreliable source?] and 1997.[35]
Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 Democratic Party primary election.[36] In his 1984 Senate race, Gore opposed a "gay bill of rights" and stated that homosexuality was not something that "society should affirm
