So finally tesco have been caught out with their so called price reductions. They have advertised that 1000 items have been reduced yet these so called items were cheaper than there now reduced price back in December!

DONT GET ME GOING ON TESCO..I HAVE boycotted the shop due to the fact they refused to exchange deodorant i bought there.

i lost my wallet so i wanted to exchange it for some bread and milk.

the manager,a fat irish bloke, told me if he let me exchange it he would lose his job.

i have never set foot inthe place since..and i recommend no one does.

all shops do this. its a joke.

have a look at the small print on sale ads... you can see it says "discount after price promotion" or something like that

I personally hate tesco but due to Ireland and it's restricted parking I tend to go there as parking is easily available. I hate the staff, the management, the layout well everything about it. I can't believe the change since last year of price inflation. I used to buy multi packed crisps for 65c now the same ones are 1.35 unlike other retailers tesco is sneaky with prices and very reluctant to give a refund.

Why would someone want your used deodorant?

    We should call you smellyboy

It could easily have been put into a returns bin and written up as wastage.

I used to like Tesco but Dunnes is way better now. They have great discounts on food you actually eat day to day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Aishae

what most places do is up the price by 15 cent then a month or two later take it down by eg. 5 cent and say its now cheaper.
if you asked for a list of items thats are cheaper which also notes the current price, the old price and the pice of the items for the last few months youd either not get a list or get a very surprising one

Tesco have done this before. A lavish promotional campaign advertising price-cuts is rolled out only for prices to rise again weeks later.

The best thing to do is split your shopping up, I shop in Teso, Lidls, Aldis and Dunnes but only buy certain things in each place.

Many people live in areas with only one major supermarket nearby.

    Old trick.

    Popular product is 7.50.
Raise price to 9.50 for a few months
Lower price to 8.50 and slap a sale sign on it.

Not only do you profit from the initial price raise, you also profit when you lower it because 1) there a sales sign on it, this lures people in and 2) it's still more expensive than it should be (7.50)...

Of course the shop will continue to raise a price until demand drops, then lower it slightly until demand stabilises.

Not to mention their pay at the pumps scam. I don't usually buy my petrol there but ended up going there on my way home one day. I decided to pay at the pumps with my laser card to save me going into the shop. You have to put your card in first so they can verify it and then once they verify it it allows you to fill your tank. The next day I was checking my online banking and I noticed that there was €1 of a difference in the balance on the main page and the list of transactions. I'd never use my laser card for to pay for something that cost €1 so I rang the bank and they said it was from Tesco. I explained that I hadn't bought anything in Tesco for €1 so the girl thought I should cancel my card in case my card had been skimmed and they had tried a small transaction first. I got cut off from the bank and when I rang the card services section back the person had gone ahead and cancelled the card for me regardless. However the person I got back through to said that Tesco do a €1 "verification transaction" if you're paying at the pumps. As my card was already cancelled they wouldn't reverse the cancellation cos they somehow managed to get my date of birth wrong on their system and wouldn't accept that the date I was telling them was correct. The "verification transaction" of €1 was only refunded by Tesco 16 days later. Obviously they're just keeping the money in their accounts and earning interest off it for as long as possible. Haven't gone there since. Was pretty annoyed having to wait to get a new card and PIN and then go into a branch with ID so they could change my date of birth in the bank.

i wonder why exactl they need a - paid for - tester on the fuel pumps. shops wouldnt get away with doing that if you were charged every time you made a lazer purchase

Ireland seems to be Tesco's little earner on the side.

Shame, that. What this country needs is another big player to come in and start looking for a slice of the pie.

    Yup.

They come in and announce they'll be creating jobs which is pure propganda. In reality they cost way more jobs than they create and drain communities of wealth.

They put many small shops out of business and local suppliers too. They then take their profits back to the UK or Switzerland or wherever.

Farmers are practically held to ransom.

Sure the comsumer saves a few euro shopping at tesco but thats only in the short term. The consumers taxes must pay for the unemployed people tesco create and watch businesses in the area close down which gives a negative impression.

but if you think that ireland alone makes 3,5 billions to their 25 or 30 billions a year thats mean a lot of people moan about them but actually are there all the time

and if i can add thats ireland makes far mor profit than the rest of other europe tesco stores are we that really hungry??

OP, just shop around a bit, Tesco do some things cheap and not others, the other supermarkets are the same. You don't have to do all your shopping in the one place.
